Howard moved to Sapulpa prior to his junior season and became an instant impact player for the Chieftains. He had a really strong junior season in 2022 and then took his game to another level in 2023. As a senior, Howard led a very talented Sapulpa offense that put up a lot of points. Howard can absolutely spin it and he’s going to be a name to watch at the next level. Howard committed to Emporia State and should have a steady career there if his high school career was any indication.

Howard moved to Sapulpa from Coweta and turned into one of the better quarterbacks in the state’s 2024 class. Whether it was his abilities with the Chieftains or seeing him in person countless of times in various 7v7 tournaments or at our camp back in the spring, Howard has always found a way to shine. Howard has put up some strong numbers this season the Chieftains are going to be a team to look out for when the playoffs begin. They’ve started picking up momentum in the second half of the season and are playing some of their best football right now. Earlier this season, Howard announced his commitment to play college ball at Emporia State.

The Highway 97 rivalry game with Sapulpa and Sand Springs was one of the more entertaining games of week zero and senior quarterback Colton Howard Colton Howard 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Sapulpa | 2024 State OK absolutely lit up the Sand Springs defense. Despite coming up short on the scoreboard, Howard still put up monster numbers. He threw for nearly 400 yards and seven touchdowns and also added a rushing touchdown as well. Most weeks, those kinds of numbers are going to get the job done and then some. If Sapulpa gets another performance like that from Howard as they host 6A-2’s #9 Tahlequah, we expect the Chieftains will be victorious on Friday night. The Chieftains are a team that we like in Class 5A and a lot of it is due to the Emporia State commit at quarterback and this offense overall. We’re looking forward to seeing what Howard and the Sapulpa offense look like in their first home game of the year.

We first watched Howard last offseason as he played with Sooner 7 and he appeared to be ready to have a strong 2022 season. He backed up the hype with over 2,200 passing yards and 31 touchdowns while only throwing 6 interceptions on the season. Howard continues to get better and better every time we see him and after watching him again in the spring at a team camp, he appears to have full control of the Sapulpa offense. With a strong offensive line in front of him and some serious talent joining him in the skill department, Howard could end up leading one of the more explosive offenses in Class 5A this season and his recruiting stock will only go up.

There are certain players that we start sounding like a broken record when we write about because it becomes somewhat repetitive. We started watching Howard about 18 months ago while he played 7v7 for Sooner 7 and the quarterback he was then and the quarterback he is now is completely different. The confidence in his abilities and overall game has gone through the roof and we really like Sapulpa this year in Class 5A. It’s going to be interesting as we get into district play because Warren and Del City are in the same district as Howard and the Chieftains. Those two will get a chance to go head to head and it will be one of the marquee match-ups in Class 5A. But Howard has taken a massive leap as a QB prospect and we’re looking forward to seeing what’s next for him.

There were several quarterbacks that impressed on Friday, but we were very impressed with the play of Sapulpa 2024 QB Colton Howard Colton Howard 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Sapulpa | 2024 State OK throughout the evening. That was no surprise as Howard has had a terrific offseason and he’s continued his momentum that began last fall with the Chieftains. Howard’s growth as a quarterback and as a leader of the Sapulpa offense over the last 12 months is noticeable and he had an excellent showing while we watched him with the Sapulpa offense. Now, it doesn’t hurt that he has some very talented skill players joining him this fall and one of them will be broken down later on in this spotlight. Howard showcased a strong arm with accuracy and then an ability to improvise when he needed to so he could extend a play and hit one of those skill players down the field time after time.

Howard is another quarterback on the rise that has a ton of momentum going for him right now. It began last fall when he had an outstanding season for the Chieftains. He’s continued that throughout this offseason and has been one of the best quarterbacks that we’ve watched in the 7v7 setting. Howard has been outstanding over the last two months every time we’ve watched him in person. This past weekend, Howard’s accuracy was one thing that really stood out and it appears that as his play has continued to improve, his confidence has also skyrocketed. Howard certainly belongs in the conversation for top quarterbacks in the state’s 2024 class going into this spring and summer.

Howard continues to build on that breakout season as he gets the offseason going. He did a good job that on Saturday early on in the afternoon. Howard showcased the wheels and had some impressive times in the 40-yard dash. He was among the best from the quarterback position on Saturday. Then he did well throughout the day during individual drills and 1 on 1 competitions. Howard is a 2024 prospect that we anticipate seeing quite a bit during the next few months. He expects to have a consistent role as one of the quarterbacks for Sooner 7 and we’ve covered the majority of their tournaments over the last few seasons and will be back at it again this spring.
