Was it mentioned that Ardmore has a swarming hard hitting defense? Because Newby was another defensive back who was also willing to fly up the field and chop down ball carriers. He also routinely was able to get them knocked down before the first down marker. It takes all hands on deck to have a great defense and the youngster did his part on Friday night.

2029 defensive back Clay Newby Clay Newby DB/QB Ardmore | 2029 OK returns after starting last season as a freshman. He’ll be one of the vocal leaders in the secondary and potentially considered the quarterback of the defense. Which makes sense considering he will also serve as the team’s backup quarterback. And if the Tigers run into any issues on the offensive side of the ball, Newby has the potential to step in and help them out at quarterback. But when we look at his overall impact he can have on this season, there is no doubt that it starts with what he’s able to do on defense. If he can help the Tigers improve on that side of the ball, Ardmore is going to be in a really good spot in 2026.
