New E
showed up ready at the Shock Doctor Legends Showcase 7v7 tournament this month and quietly put himself on the radar as one of the more intriguing two-way athletes. In a format built for speed, space, and route recognition, Cuevas checked every box evaluators look for in a modern defensive back — and flashed enough offensive juice to keep defensive coordinators from sleeping on his versatility. Cuevas is simply better on the back end right now, and it showed immediately. Lined up primarily at corner and in the slot, he repeatedly matched up against taller, longer receivers and won with physicality. He plays bigger than his listed size — compact, strong in press, and unafraid to get hands on at the line. Multiple times across the weekend he jammed taller targets off their stems, then used quick, active feet to mirror through breaks and contest the catch point. He “plays bigger” trait at this size; it screams projection and toughness. His field vision and anticipation stood out in zone and match coverage. Cuevas consistently read the quarterback’s eyes, broke on the ball early, and arrived with clean technique. In a tournament full of high-level skill talent from across the country, he rarely gave up a clean catch when the ball was thrown his way. That combination of vision, foot quickness, and physicality makes him a legitimate nickel or boundary corner prospect who can travel with bigger bodies.
While defense is clearly his stronger side, Cuevas wasn’t just a specialist. When his 7v7 squad needed him on offense, the quick release and fast feet translated immediately. Whether taking occasional snaps in the slot or even showing a glimpse of arm talent on designed throws, he operated with decisiveness and accuracy. The same burst and change-of-direction ability that makes him sticky in coverage allowed him to create separation as a receiver and threaten underneath or on quick game concepts. That two-way ability is exactly what college staffs want in an early-cycle ATH — a player who can contribute on defense immediately while offering special teams or gadget offensive packages as he develops. Cuevas still has significant room to grow physically. The frame looks like it will hold weight well, and the movement skills are already developing into college-caliber.
