After narrowing down the long list, I decided to turn into the showdown between Somerset and Prescott, and I am so glad I did. This game had everything! College prospects, big plays from both sides, momentum swings, lead changes, and clutch plays/drives. Let’s dive into how the full game played out.
This started hot as Prescott QB Teddy Bernick found junior WR Will Packard Will Packard 6'1" | 200 lbs | WR Prescott | 2025 State WI for the first of what ended up being three TD connections between them. The second came on the next drive. Packard took the quick slant and used the track speed to simply outrun the entire field on his way to the 14-0 lead. However, no lead was safe in this game. Early in the second quarter, Somerset rising junior QB Kane Donnelly Kane Donnelly 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB Somerset | 2025 State WI found WR Caeden Kreibich for a TD on 4th down. Prescott kept the pressure on Somerset though as super productive RB/DB Barrett Temmers pounded in a short TD for the 21-6 lead. Just before the first half ended, Somerset narrowed the deficit to 14-21 on a Kane Donnelly Kane Donnelly 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB Somerset | 2025 State WI scramble TD.
Somerset kept this rolling on offense early in the second half. WR/DB Jack Krier took the reverse handoff, and raced around the left edge for the score, and lead following the two point conversion. Then Jack Krier made a huge splash on defense, jumping a quick pass and going all the way for a pick six. The tides had really swung towards Somerset as they jumped to a 30-21 lead. Teddy Bernick and Prescott weren’t counting themselves out, though. Bernick dropped back and found WR Nolan Thomley to make it a 28-30 game. Then they took the lead back when Bernick and Packard connected for their third score of the game. Somerset remained poised. QB Kane Donnelly Kane Donnelly 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB Somerset | 2025 State WI again delivered a clutch 4th down pass to WR Nick Tollackson for the 36-36 tie. Then Donnelly lead the Somerset offense on a long, time consuming, QB run heavy drive that milked the 4th quarter away until Kane ran it in himself to take the lead, and give us our final score of 44-36! The win moved Somerset to 2-2 and Prescott to 3-1.
Best Prospects of the Game
Stats: 13/21, 181 Passing Yards, 2 Passing TDs, 20 Carries 89 Yards, 2 Rushing TDs, 3 TacklesrnWhat a performance by the junior QB from Somerset. The most impressive parts of his game weren’t the physical traits. It was the mental side. Multiple times, Kane made big time passes on 4th down. I believe both of his TDs came on 4th down. Plus he stayed locked into the game situation as he milked the clock on the game winning drive. Not to mention showing the leadership to help his team come back from down multiple possessions early on.
Now flip to the physical traits, and he is just as much of a need to know athlete. He has the size, he brings a dual threat ability to the field that defenses have to gameplan for. Kane delivered accurate passes, and did a really good job of buying time inside and outside the pocket. This was a special performance to take in. Coaches, make sure you check this junior passer out.
Highlights
Stats: 21 Carries, 122 Yards, 1 Reception, 10 Yards, 8 TacklesrnCaymen was another top prospect who put together a great game. He was the workhorse the offense could rely on in the ground game. The big back only got stronger as the game went on. He ran behind his pads, churned his legs through contact, fell forward, and played with good strength overall on offense. Caymen was just as imperative in that final drive as Kane. He had some key carries, and also was an effective lead blocker. On defense, Gebheim showed off a solid first step that gave him a head start over the OTs. His strength allowed him to set the edge when they tried to attack outside. The senior was also a super reliable wrap up tackler. The play was done when he got ahold of the ball carrier. Solid senior sleeper to know!
Highlights
Dylan Leccia
Dylan Leccia
Stats: 4 Receptions, 77 Yards, 1 TacklernThis was a new athlete to my radar when the game started, but Dylan very quickly made an impression. First of all, he stands at an impressive 6’5″ 185 lbs. Great size for the redzone. The basketball standout uses that size, and basketball skill to go up and get the ball over DBs. He uses his long arms to catch the ball at the high point where DBs can’t get their hands on it. The long, lean WR also showed the speed and was a reliable deep threat because of it and that high point catching combo. Dylan is the leading receiver on the team, and is a hidden gem in the Class of 2024.
Nick Tollackson
Nick Tollackson
Stats: 4 Receptions, 38 Yards, 1 TD, 9 Tackles, 1 SackrnAnother Somerset standout, and Class of 2024 hidden gem is Nick Tollackson. The WR/DB was all over the field making key plays for Somerset. He has a good frame at 6’2″ 175 lbs, and the speed for either position. On defense, Nick used that speed to be a rangy DB. One that could be aggressive and get into the backfield for the sack, or fly around the defensive backfield and make tackles. On offense, Nick made the clutch catch on 4th down to tie the game in the 4th quarter. He was able to beat his man downfield, adjust to the ball, and reel it in in the spotlight. Nick had his name called a lot Friday night. He stepped up all night lon.
One of the athletes I couldn’t wait to watch in this game was the junior WR out of Prescott. Will has a good build for the position at 6’1″ 180 lbs. It is well filled out, and comes loaded with game breaking speed. The track standout used that speed to take over the game. He scored three TDs, and they all resulted because of his speed either before or after the catch. The junior also showed off natural hands that plucked the ball out of the air. Packard also possesses the short area agility, balance, and burst to be an effective route runner. He was able to open up plenty of separation for his QB to target all night long. This is a name to get on recruiting boards in the Class of 2025.
Highlights
Teddy Bernick
Teddy Bernick
Teddy is an athlete who has caught my eyes throughout the first half of the season with his numbers. What the numbers showed carried over to the field Friday night. Teddy is very efficient with the ball. He is completing 75%+ of his passes on the season. He averages nearly 14 yds/att, and he maintained that aggressive downfield passing in Week 4. Teddy is also an athletic player who has the speed to scramble, but will first use it to buy time and be a passer first. The accuracy instantly aught my eyes, as he first pass was a deep shot that he completed to put them in scoring position early on. Bernick also proved to be a poised leader as he led his team on a comeback in this game, and took multiple leads before running out of time. Keep Teddy on your radars. He seems to have the athleticism to help at the next level, and I will be watching to see how the arm develops over the next season and a half for him.
Barrett Temmers
Barrett Temmers
Barrett is an athlete who I had to get on my radar. He is a huge piece of the Prescott offense and defense. Coming into the game, Barrett was leading the state in INTs with 5. Temmers tracks the ball like a receiver, has the speed to run with receivers, and does a good job getting himself in position to be opportunistic. On offense, Barrett is the workhorse RB they lean on. He is shifty between the tackles, and finds the holes/blocks the OL gives him. Barrett is another junior from this game that the next level should give a look at over the next year.
Our final standout prospect of the game is Prescott’s exciting OL/DL David Regnier David Regnier 6’4″ | 270 lbs | OL Prescott | 2025 State WI . The big fella looks the part of a potential next level prospect. He is a well put together 6’4″ 250 lbs with plenty of room on that frame to continue to grow. David stood out best on the DL. He played NT for Prescott, and he made it very tough to find yards between the tackles. David showed off impressive strength that allowed him to run through blocks into the backfield or bull rush OL backwards. Regnier found ways to wreck havoc all night long in the backfield. He was able to control the line of scrimmage, and played with his hands, and used them to disengage with OL. There is a lot of potential in David. I can’t wait to watch his development and growth over the next year plus.
