When it comes to the QB position, I feel very strongly that

of Indian Trail could be the biggest riser of the summer. The 2027 QB is a technician throwing the football. It doesn’t matter if he is in the pocket in rhythm, on a designed rollout, or if he is scrambling and has to launch the ball from an awkward angle. Joel is able to always get himself in a position that maximizes his arm in whatever scenario. His footwork and upper body mechanics are so smooth and efficient too. The ball placement and touch also shines while he attacks every level of the field too. This summer will be a great stage for him to show where his arm is at, and it should impress a lot of people.

Indian Trail will be looking for a new QB to lead the offense this fall. Senior LJ Dagen and his dual threat abilities graduated, and that leaves a big void for someone to fill in for. Dagen put up 2,300 total yards from scrimmage in 2023, and Indian Trail will need similar numbers to have success again this season.
It looks like it may be an open competition for the job, and one of the athletes up for the battle will be 2027 QB

. Joel is an athletic QB, fitting the dual threat mold that Indian Trail has had recent success with. Through the air, Perez brings a quick release, quick feet, and the ability to zip the ball around the field, especially from 20 yards and in. Perez is also developing the touch necessary to win with his deep passes based off what we saw during camps. I’m excited to see some tape from Joel this fall.

Joel was one of the freshmen that I was excited to see throw in person. The freshman has years of growth ahead of him, and he is starting at 5’10” 140 lbs. The freshman ran a 5.00 40, 4.58 shuttle, and 7’10” broad jumps. The freshman isn’t afraid to use his athleticism on the field, so look for those numbers to improve as he grows and adds strength.
Watching Joel throughout the day, it stood out that the tools are starting to show up, and he is already developing one of the hardest parts of the position. Accuracy. Joel doesn’t have a huge arm. That will come as he continue to grow and fill out his frame in the weight room. What he did show over and over was the ability to place the ball in good spots for his target to be able to secure it. His touch on intermediate and deep throws was key to his protecting the ball. It was great to see him keep putting the ball on his receiver’s hands. I will be following Joel’s career closely over the coming years.
