Jacob is a speedy and shifty athlete that can play more than one position to help his football team win games. When breaking down his skill set, you notice his quick burst allows him to accelerate past defenders in one-on-one drills. Jacob will be competing for a starting job for the Irish this fall, and I project to see him starting on the defensive side of the ball. We must mention his physical prowess as he is tough and not afraid to put his nose on the football. With the move to the Detroit catholic league, we will see how his game translates with some of the best football players in the State of Michigan.
Aidan Cantu – Clay High School, 2024 – OL
Cantu is a player slowly checking off the boxes and has a considerable upside for this coming fall. His hips have improved since the season, and I think it’s from him wrestling this season for the Eagles. Aidan is a student of the game and has been working closely with the University of Toledo, starting Center Tyler Long on Sundays at camp to home in on his craft. Athletic big men are hard to find, and Cantu is just that, a gem of a prospect. I can see him playing the center position at college, but for this fall, his senior season, he will be an all-around lineman for his squad.
Robert Jones – Start High School, 2024 – DB/WR
Jones is a smart two-way player that had a breakout season for the Start Spartans in the fall of 2022. Jones has displayed a more physical presence this offseason, as the weight room is a massive focus for him. When watching his film, I noticed his skill level increased tremendously from week one to week 10. RJ has an outstanding instinct for football when it is in the air. He can catch the ball with one hand or two and has covered some very skilled players so far, but he is showing that he belongs to be a must-see player in the Toledo City League in the fall of 2023.
Nick Banazak – Central Catholic, 2024 – OL
Nick is an excellent project offensive lineman for the Fighting Irish, but he is in heavy competition for a job on the defending 2022 state championship team. Nick got most of his run on JV last season, but he has impressed his coaches as they have to find a way to play all of these talented 2024 linemen for the Irish. That is a good problem, and for Nick, this will be an excellent opportunity to get college coaches to see his hard work pay off. Quick feet and Nick wants finish blocks will keep colleges checking in to see how he will perform this summer/fall. FYI, he is good enough to be a starter on any high school team in the Toledo area on day 1. As he continue to get stronger and develop his technique he could be a sleeper prospect for some schools.
