I am listing the players who’s stat line stood out, who people recommended but most importantly, only players who either I watched live or was able to watch highlights from their specific game. For the best chance to be featured, send me your weekly film on twitter. My handle is “@DevinRecord”, please don’t have any hard feelings if you weren’t included.
Kai Laukkanen
Kai Laukkanen
There were a couple players for Capital HS who stood out in their week 1 game. One player who caught my eye is 2024 WR Kai Laukkanen, who was targeted quite frequently. Kai ran some very impressive routes, using his quick first step to create key separation from the opposing defensive back. He was hard to get down after the ball was in his hands, breaking off initial contact many times. He made his presence known on both sides of the ball, compiling 4 tackles and an interception. Offensively, he had 6 catches for 107 yards and a touchdown. It seems Kai will be a big part of this Capitial HS offense as the season goes on.
Andre didn’t have much playing time as a freshman last year, which allowed him to almost match his receiving yard total from last year in just one game. If one of his big catch and run wasn’t called back due to holding, he would’ve surpassed his total. He made his mark on both sides of the ball as well, picking off Mount Baker QB Landon Smith in the 3rd quarter. Watson showed great ability to break free in the open field and also showed he doesn’t lose concentration while catching the ball, catching a deep throw that he bobbled but kept control. Watson finished with 79 yards and a touchdown, with almost all of that coming in the second half after the Mariners started off slow. This 2025 WR should be on everyone’s radar.
Highlights
AJ Attaran
AJ Attaran
AJ made a big statement week 1 for Union HS against Eastlake HS and he got the job done on both sides of the ball. Offensively, he had a busy night catching 11 passes for 130 yards and 1 touchdown. Lining up mostly in the slot, his footwork helped him out a lot. He’s quick off the snap and creates space to catch the ball with ease. Many times AJ would receive a little screen pass, allowing him to show off his skillset and speed in the open field. Defensively, he was playing lock down CB. He had a couple pass deflections but one play he read the QB perfectly when they were driving deep in Union’s territory and was able to pick off the ball and almost take it to the house before being stopped.
Luvens is a stand-out athlete on the basketball court, but he is also a monster on the football field! During Auburn’s first game, Valcin hauled in 11 catches for a staggering 167 yards and 1 touchdown to go along with it. His size was apparent all night, as it seemed like he towered over opposing DB’s. Given his size, he is also almost impossible to take down. Auburn’s coach is aware of that, making sure to put the ball in this juniors hands via screen passes so he can make plays. His ability to rise above defenders not only shows on the court, but also does on the field as during his touchdown catch he jumped above 2 defenders for the snag.
There’s not much else you can say about Gabe’s physical appearance, as he just looks the part of an collegiate football player. Gabe standouts to me almost every time he is on the field, providing a target on offense that is as reliable as it gets in the state of WA. Week 1 for Hoffman was no different, he hauled in many catches. Most of those catches going for 10 plus yards. He’s extremely hard to bring down, as it may take 2 or 3 defenders to get the job done. Gabe had a solid game on defense as well, being in the QB’s face often all night long. He also blocked a punt on special teams. Gabe will be targeted often, so this might not be the only time he is featured.
