Wright is a big physical athlete at 6’0 200 and with his wrestling background, he’s a hard-nosed runner with the speed to separate away from defenders. He’s probably not going to juke you out of your cleats or zigzag through defenders like a human joystick but Wright will certainly put his shoulder down and run through you or by you. He’s just a special athlete that has natural abilities that can’t be taught and he’s been a pleasure to watch during his high school athletics career.

Well, the senior Virginia Tech wrestling commit has taken his game to a whole new level and is the current favorite to win the Kennedy Award as the state’s best overall athlete. Wright has been putting up insane stats through the first five weeks of the season and has made our weekly standouts every week. Wright is averaging an incredible 240 yards rushing per game and has run in 15 touchdowns. He’s also been a factor in the passing game with 10 catches for 198 yards and 6 more touchdowns. Wright is a very good linebacker as well and has over 20 tackles and 3 TFLs on that side of the ball as well. He has 23 total touchdowns in the first five games and is just playing on another level than everyone else right now.

The 6’0 185 rising senior has already committed to Virginia Tech for wrestling showing how good of an athlete he is. On the football field, Wright plays how he wrestles and is a very tough and physical player. He’s your prototypical one-cut-and-go running back that doesn’t have a ton of twitch but will run hard and through you. Wright has enough speed to break off some big runs and he’ll put his shoulder down and run you over too. He’s just as good, if not better, at linebacker and could certainly play either position in college if he chose to play football at the next level. In his junior season, Wright totaled 1,100 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns while amassing 83 tackles, 22 TFLs, and 12 sacks.

Gage Wright Gage Wright 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Parkersburg South | 2024 State WV is a rising Senior at Parkersburg South High School (WV). He is coming off of a strong junior campaign that saw him rush for 1591 yards and 29 touchdowns, posting an excellent 11.2 yard per carry average. Wright is also a standout linebacker and a 2-time State Champion Wrestler.

As a runner, Wright possesses above-average speed. He wastes no time in attacking the line of scrimmage. Wright hits the hole at full speed and accelerates to the second level as well as any back in the State. He has excellent field vision and a long stride that help him separate from the second level.

Gage has exceptional lower body strength, runs through tackles and likely gains more yards after first contact than any back in the State. He finishes his runs strongly and punishes defenders.
