About Gage

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am a physical, assignment sound tight end who takes pride in blocking and doing the dirty work. I play with strength and discipline in the run game, fitting runs correctly in the box and consistently blocking defenders in space. When I’m targeted in the passing game, I run with toughness and balance, making me difficult to bring down and effective after contact.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I play with a calm, composed mindset and focus on doing my job every snap. I don’t showboat or let emotions affect my play, and I take pride in being reliable and coachable. I prepare seriously, trying to limit mental mistakes, and consistently execute assignments, which allows me to be a trusted player/leader on the field.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) and my local church youth group.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I try to hold myself accountable, while communicating effectively, and doing my job to help the team succeed. I lead by example through consistent effort, preparation, and discipline rather than words. Supporting teammates on and off the field (during workouts or calling out blocking assignments) and representing my program in my school and community.

Few programs in the state can boast a track record as good as Ankeny’s when it comes to producing talent for the next level. The Hawks annually have a varsity roster packed with guys capable of playing in college. It makes it difficult for players to break through earlier in their careers, but history tells us that there’s group of them developing behind the scenes, waiting their turn. Wendel has the look of one of those guys when we watch his 2025 film working with the freshman team. The first clip shows him blocking in the run game and being directly responsible for extra yards by the back. We witness plenty more of that skill, which is advanced for his age. Wendel reaches blocks lining up in the slot, as an H-Back or in-line. He’s a smooth route runner as well, flashing speed and agility.
