Through 3 weeks, Class 4A Iowa has seen the usual powerhouses emerge to the top of the conference and looking to cement their place up top by the end of the regular season, but there is still plenty of time left, and several of the teams trailing right behind them are looking to emerge in 2025 to contend with the best of the best, and they have shown through the first 3 games of the season that they will not be pushed around easily. We take a look at what went down in Class 4A Iowa across week 3!

Easily the most anticipated matchup heading into week 4, this matchup did not disappoint, proving to be a shootout as the two teams combined for 853 total yards of offense. North Polk gained leverage early on, holding a 30-14 lead with less than 9 and a half minutes left. ADM pulled off a heroic comeback, scoring two touchdowns and 2-PT conversions, tying the game with just 11 seconds left in regulation. ADM got the ball first in overtime, scoring a touchdown quickly to take the lead, but North Polk responded with a touchdown and successful 2-point conversion of their own, giving the Comets the edge to stay undefeated and on top of the Class 4A conference.

Top Performer: Carson Reinhart (JR) - Reinhart was responsible for much of the Comets' scoring on Friday night, bulling his way for 110 rushing yards on 28 carries and 3 touchdowns while adding 2 catches for 16 yards. Reinhart would also punch in the game-winning 2-point conversion in OT.

Another highly anticipated matchup as Class 4A powerhouse Decorah went on the road to take on the reigning Class 3A champions at their stadium. In an engaging matchup, Decorah benefited with long, sustained drives and several tricks up their sleeves while also being able to contain the Golden Eagles' from scoring points for most of the game. Both teams scored touchdowns in the 4th quarter, but by failing their extra points, both teams missed opportunities to pull ahead at the end of regulation. In Overtime, Wahlert Catholic scored first in OT, and only 2 plays later, they nabbed the game-sealing interception on Wahlert Catholic, snapping a 16 game winning streak heading into this game and keeping Decorah undefeated.

The matchup between top-contenders Pella and North Scott proved to be a defensive one as neither teams were able to find the end zone for most of the duration of this game. Pella's defense almost completely shut down the Lancers' offense, limiting them to a total of 123 yards of offense. In the end, Pella finally punched in the sole touchdown of the game with less than 6 minutes to go and held out their opponent, giving Pella the edge in this tough battle played through the trenches.

The lone Thursday night game from Class 4A last week, this matchup went down in the trenches as both teams were running down each other's throats. The two running units combined for a total 477 rushing yards over the course of the night. In the end, trailing 17-12 in the 4th quarter, Clinton took the lead on a rushing touchdown and two-point conversion with just over 3 minutes left in the game. The Warriors droved all the way down to Clinton's 3 yard line, but ultimately failed to punch in, and to top things off, missed a chip shot field goal to send the game into Overtime in the closing seconds. With this win, Clinton is looking to show positive momentum as they continue to build from a winless campaign just two years ago.

Xavier's matchup for homecoming this week was a revenge matchup against Clear Creek Amana, who stunned the Saints last season 28-24. Early on, the game appeared to be on pace for a shootout, with Xavier leading 27-21 at halftime. However, mistakes piled up for the Clippers in the second half, thanks in part to 3 turnovers, Xavier pulled away and ended up throttling the Clippers on homecoming. Xavier is looking a lot like the team that went undefeated in 2022, and there's a great chance with the way they are playing that they could compete for another state title in 2025.
