Kuennen also could be listed as a linebacker or athlete. He piled up 59.0 tackles (36 solo, 4.0 TFL) and four interceptions, including two Pick-6s. He rushed for 888 yards and seven touchdowns, and averaged 26.2 yards on five kick returns. Kuennen is a desirable prospect because of his versatility and opportunity to develop at multiple positions. He earned first-team all-state honors on defense and first-team all-district laurels on offense. Kuennen looks like a smooth operator when carrying the rock during his junior highlight video. He lets his blocks develop when running between the tackles, showing a knack for bouncing outside if he runs into too much traffic. While power certainly is present, Kuennen has wiggle and can hit another gear. He should be able to comfortably add weight without losing any of his athletic advantages.

has made a strong impact for Decorah in both the run-game, and as a run-defender. As a LB, Kuennen recorded 59 tackles, 4 TFLs, and 4 interceptions, with 2 returned for touchdowns. Kuennen has quite a bit of length at 6’2″, and he uses that to his advantage in the run game to reach the ball-carrier, running through blockers, and he tackles with clean form without letting the ball-carrier advance for extra yardage. What really stands out is his strength in coverage, using his speed and vertical jump ability to nab low passes, and with the ball in his hands, his ball-carrier vision as a RB allows him to find the open lane to the end zone. RB is Kuennen’s preferred position, but those strengths on the ground have translated well for him on defense, and he could very easily get opportunities to play LB at the next level too.
Kuennen put together separate highlight videos for offense and defense from the 2024 season. He certainly could attract colleges as a linebacker or safety. As a junior last fall, Kuennen rushed for 888 yards (5.1 YPC) and seven touchdowns while sharing backfield duties. He added nine receptions for 89 yards. Kuennen was named first-team all-district at running back and was on the all-state second-team as a linebacker. At 6-2, Kuennen is tall for a running back, but he uses it to his advantage. His power and sharp cuts make him difficult to tackle. There’s impressive speed when Kuennen gets a head of steam going.
