6’0, 200 pounds. Reports a 4.0 GPA as a junior at Coatesville High School. Another oversight on my part, this isn’t a new name to me yet Van Orden wasn’t on our most recent update. That will change. Is a Lacrosse participant.
Posted a lengthy junior season tape littered with reps that would have him stack well beside many linebackers already on our lists. First rep on tape has Van Orden recognizing a play-side screen, a rep in which Van Orden attacks his would-be blocker quick, sheds, and hunts for the ball carrier. Good sniff out here. Coatesville likes to deploy three down linemen, get creative with who is coming off the edge, while deploying a SAM (or nickel) and a MIKE behind said defensive line. Van Orden can play either backer spot. Good first step when run stopping. Solid lateral mover. Like his closing speed once he dissects and recs a run. You can see a noticeable difference in his stride and pursuit angles post play-diagnosis. Has experience at TE, yet if he wants to play college football, it’s likely he’ll be recruited to play backer at a local D3 or D2. A high number of quality reps boosts his stock above similarly graded players too, I might add. If his measurables can be validated, this too would boost his stock.
