The Edmond Santa Fe Wolves came into the 2023 season looking for redemption. They were coming off a rare season in 2022 where they missed out on the playoffs after going 1-9. Needless to say, they were hungry to erase the memory of that 2022 season and it didn't take long. They kicked the season off with a bang by going on the road in week zero and beating Jenks 27-26. The Wolves would start the season with a 5-1 record and were serious contenders in the district. But back to back losses to perennial powers Union and Owasso in weeks eight and nine would put Santa Fe out of the picture for the district crown but that didn't stop the Wolves from finishing the season strong. They would finish third in the district and would easily move on after a first round win over Enid. They had a rematch with Jenks in the quarterfinal round but came up short, losing 24-10 and finishing the season with a 7-4 record. But when you look at the Wolves from a larger frame, it does look like a successful season. They completely bounced back from going 1-9 in 2022. They had one of the best offensive units in Class 6A-1, averaging nearly 40 points per game. They played some very exciting games that went down to the wire with five of their eleven games being decided by seven points or less. And as we turn the page to the 2024 season, the Wolves have gained some momentum for a deep run this fall.

2024 OUTLOOK

That momentum starts with the amount of experience that is returning this season. Seven starters are back on the offensive side of the ball. While they lose one of the state's best offensive lineman prospects to graduation, they do return the majority of their starters on the line of scrimmage. And that should help the running game, which was arguably the best in Class 6A-1 a season ago. It was headlined by a running back who became a finalist for our Prep Redzone Oklahoma Player Of The Year award and he's back for one more run. Santa Fe will have a new name at quarterback but they aren't lacking experience at that position. This is an offense that averaged nearly 40 points per game last season and they could end up being better in 2024. On defense, the Wolves will bring back eight starters on that side of the ball and they'll look to lean on that experience to improve from the 2023 version. Santa Fe has several key names to watch on this defensive unit. Simply put, if the Wolves can improve on defense and be just as explosive on offense, they'll have a great shot to make a run in a Class 6A-1 that is absolutely loaded with talent. The Wolves come in as the number seven team in our preseason rankings. They'll be tested early in the season and will need to finish strong with two tough road games against top five teams to close out the regular season.

Running back [player_tooltip player_id='188013' first='Demarius' last='Robinson'] was one of the very best players in Oklahoma last season. After missing most of his sophomore season, Robinson responded with over 2,200 yards and 28 touchdowns in 2023. That was good enough for the Santa Fe star to become a finalist for our Prep Redzone Oklahoma Player Of The Year award and earn All State 1st Team honors. Robinson also had a stretch from week four to week seven where he ran for over 1,200 yards and 17 touchdowns. That's a great season for most running backs and he did it in four games. He's hungry for more this fall and earlier this summer, Robinson announced his commitment to Arizona State.

As excited as we are to see the Santa Fe offense in action this fall, the defense is going to be a huge key to their overall success. Junior cornerback [player_tooltip player_id='1051130' first='Trey' last='Sherrod'] is one of the returning players to keep an eye on this fall. He had a solid sophomore season and was incredibly productive from the cornerback position. And when you look at the Santa Fe schedule, they are going to be facing some quarterbacks that know how to fire darts all over the field. The schedule features three different quarterbacks that are currently committed to D1 programs. Having a cornerback that's getting better and better every time he steps on the field will certainly help their pass defense.

Junior standout [player_tooltip player_id='284115' first='Jae'Lin' last='Battle'] is coming into this season as one of the state's most intriguing 2026 prospects. Right now, he's still flying under the radar and waiting for his recruitment to take off. And it feels like only a matter of time before that happens when you see Battle in person. We got a chance to watch him in person multiple times this offseason and there is a lot to like about the physical makeup of the Santa Fe junior. When he takes the field for the Wolves this fall, don't be surprised to see him line up in a variety of positions and play on both sides of the ball. Battle is a versatile athlete that has a very high ceiling when it comes to being a 2026 prospect.

After spending his freshman year at Union, quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='891992' first='Kason' last='Delgado'] is now at Edmond Santa Fe and all signs point towards him earning the starting role when the Wolves take the field this season. Delgado actually played against Santa Fe last season when he was Union's starter for the second half of the season. That starting experience gives the Wolves a quarterback that is incredibly talented but is also not a stranger when it comes to facing 6A-1 competition. And having a talented passer like Delgado in the backfield could open up things even more for Robinson and the running game. Delgado is arguably the state's top quarterback in the 2027 class.

Aug. 30th - AT Jenks
- For the second straight year, Edmond Santa Fe will kick off the season on the road against Jenks. This will actually be the third time in a span of 15 months that Santa Fe went on the road to face the Trojans after also meeting in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. The Wolves are hoping this season opener is like last year where they stunned the Trojans with the 27-26 victory. Jenks got the final laugh in the playoffs but the Wolves will certainly be ready for the test in week zero.
Sept. 6th - Edmond North
Sept. 13th - Norman
Sept. 27th - Union
- District play will open up in week four and it's arguably the toughest test of the district slate. Union will come to Edmond to face the Wolves and the Redhawks are currently the favorites in this district. But like that Jenks match-up in week zero, the Wolves will be ready for a fight and these two programs are very familiar with one another. Union got the best of Santa Fe in the regular season last year but their starting quarterback in that win is now at Santa Fe and the expected QB1 this fall.
Oct. 4th - AT Edmond Memorial
Oct. 11th - Broken Arrow
Oct. 17th - AT Westmoore
Oct. 25th - AT Owasso
- In week eight, Edmond Santa Fe will travel to the east side of the state to face off with Owasso in a critical district contest. And we can only hope that the 2024 meeting is even half as exciting as what we saw from this match-up in 2023. Owasso would rally to beat the Wolves 57-53 and Santa Fe surely hasn't forgotten about that one. Depending on how the season plays out, this game will definitely be a very important part of figuring out the playoff seeding and district title race.
Nov. 1st - Yukon
Nov. 8th - AT Norman North

Edmond Santa Fe was one of six programs that had multiple 1st Team All State selections in 2023. In addition to Robinson earning 1st Team honors to go along with being a finalist for Prep Redzone Oklahoma Player Of The Year, The Wolves also had offensive lineman Josh Aisosa on the 1st Team. There's no doubt that the Wolves were talented in 2023 and had multiple prospects end up at the next level. Fast forward to this season and the Wolves are looking to begin a new playoff streak. Santa Fe made seven straight trips to the playoffs before going 1-9 in 2022 and missing out on the playoffs. The seven straight appearances were a school record. This season, they look to make their second straight playoff appearance and begin a new streak. And with Robinson returning, along with more players that might be flying under the radar right now, they have the potential to be a dark horse in a very competitive Class 6A-1.
