It’s our pleasure to help provide some exposure and spotlight to those who may not receive it, yet are deserving. Multiple teams debuted this week, providing even more excitement to this spring season. Reading HS and Norristown HS did not play Week 1, so we are considering this week to be their debut weeks. Let’s dive into who stood out, whose stock is rising, and what teams we expect to continue dominating.
Chester 6 Chichester 0
Very little film was uncovered from this game, proper analysis can’t be given off of stats and game reports alone. Yet, no film needs to be found to tell this was a hard-fought defensive game. Chester has yet to allow a single point this season, thanks to stand-out prospects Collin Ferrell and Darron Miller Darron Miller 6'2" | 185 lbs | LB Chester | 2022 State PA . Chichester is also with numerous standout defenders who did their best to stymie Chester’s offense, which they did for most of the game. Zaquan Burton, Eddie Swinton, and Marquise Fields all did their part to keep this game from getting out of hand for Chichester. However, running back Anton Sterling helped drive the Clippers into the red zone where Quarterback Isaiah Freeman was able to find Darron Miller Darron Miller 6'2" | 185 lbs | LB Chester | 2022 State PA for the only score of the game. Anton Sterling has been superb for Chester thus far. Here are Sterling’s stats through two weeks. Would love to see this prospect in person.
33 att, 221 yards, 3 TDs
Penn Wood 32 Interboro 14
Penn Wood boasts the best offense in the United Ten. A bevy of weapons to choose from, whether that be WR/ATH’s Jordin Jones and Michael Price, or at running back with Malik Brooks. An absolute electric trio of weapons is at junior quarterback Jason Kempf’s disposal. We would be doing Kempf a disservice by not highlighting his stellar play this past two weeks. Kempf has a drawn-out release that takes quite a wind-up to get air under when attempting to attack vertically. He’s got the arm to do so however and is seen to deliver deep balls accurately downfield. Kempf’s an underrated runner who can build up speed if he has open space out in front of him, he’s tough as well, not going to back down from incoming defenders. Penn Wood’s offense is predicated on getting the ball into their weapons hands as much as possible. Kempf can play the short game well, commanding the offense and providing open space for his weapons to use. The player of the game was none other than senior WR/CB Michael Price. This kid was everywhere on the field, showing off incredible athleticism to stay with wideouts downfield and stop outside running lanes from his corner spot. Price showed off his play-making ability on offense as well, scoring twice, once from 60 yards out and once from 45 yards out. Price was even making plays on special teams.
If there is anyone who could lead us in the direction to figuring out who #4/Safety is for Interboro, it would be much appreciated!
Norristown 24 Cheltenham 6
Norristown debuts their Spring Season with an impressive 24-6 victory over Cheltenham, who have now lost back-to-back games to start the season. Senior quarterback Nick DiNolfi was on point and accurate all night, hitting WR/DB Julian Arthur numerous times throughout the game. Arthur, who’s just a sophomore, has leaped onto our radar as a rising prospect with his opening night performance. A quick look at his Hudl a 6’0 athlete who plays like he’s 6’3″. Great build, a chiseled frame that allows him to be an impact blocker from his outside wideout spot. Arthur returned a kickoff 60+ yards early on, then did the same on a punt late in the game, showing he can produce with speed and vision throughout the duration of a game. Oh yeah, and the kid’s got solid hands. He showed some good tracking skills when attacking vertically, not losing a step of speed when attempting to locate the ball. The kid’s got a good feel for zones and how to attack them, thanks to his occasional reps at corner. Arthur also secured a late interception in this game. He and Nick DiNolfi balled out! Sophomores Jordan Lilly and Jamal Banks splashed for Cheltenham, but their play was no where near enough to stop Norristown.
Father Judge 26 Reading 12
This too was a debut for another United Ten team. The Reading Red Knights had Father Judge right where they wanted them early on, jumping out to a quick 12-0 lead on the back of stand-out sophomore quarterback Amier Burdine Amier Burdine 6'1" | 180 lbs | ATH Reading | 2023 State PA . Burdine was dominant with his legs in the first half of this one, racking up just under 100 yards rushing on 13 carries. Sadly, Burdine’s night was cut short by injury as the stud sophomore was forced to leave the game. Burdine is the United Ten’s best quarterback prospect. We have had the chance to see him in person and see how hard he works. We want Burdine, and all prospects to be able to show what they are capable of especially considering what has been taken away because of COVID-19. Best of luck to Amier. The injury opened a window for Father Judge to avenge their Week 1 loss to Chichester, and that they did. Running back Eric Smith has been productive this season, securing two rushing touchdowns in this one, giving him a total of three rushing touchdowns in two games. We hope Smith continues to produce and develop.
Academy Park 27 Truman 18
We save the best performance of the week for last in this piece. Junior Ibrahim Sanogo caught our eye last week with his efforts on defense and has now shot his stock through the roof with his performance last weekend. 3 total touchdowns, 2 sacks, 1 PD, 1 fumble recovery, and numerous tackles. Academy Park’s got a special talent in Sanogo. He’s got an impressive combination of size and speed when coming off the edge from his OLB spot. Boasts nimble feet and a great feel for timing his blitzes at linebacker. He has a natural feel for the flow of the football and is an elite tackler. Has a solid get-off when rushing the passer and would love to see how he plays with his hand in the dirt. All signs of Sanogo’s game point to a future on defense at the next level and that is more than likely the case. Then come the rushing highlights that make you think twice about that distinction. The kid’s got a nose for the endzone, scoring four times in just two games. No one in the United Ten has raised his stock further than Sanogo. We hope he continues his tear on offenses this season. Shout out to Anis Hunter and Ashton Clarkson, two defensive backs who held their own to hold off Sincere Thomas and Terrell Delp from making this a closer game.
