Ashton had a 10+ spot jump from previous rankings up to the #2 overall spot. Chiles really came along as the season progressed, eventually taking a starting LB role and making 2nd team all WCAC as a freshman. He finished the year with 56 Tkls, 9 TFLs, 2.5 sacks and showed he can be a dominant player for GC.
With good size / build for a freshman LB and a frame Ashton has already added some good muscle and bulk since the season ended. I can see him end being a yoked up ~230lbs prospect by the time his senior year comes around. He plays fast & physical and is a strong tackler who can lay the wood. Shows quick hips & feet, able to re-direct in tight spaces to get past blockers and to the ball with pace. What I see from Ashton’s game that lead to his rise in these rankings is his high football IQ . You see him diagnose plays swiftly, take good angles to the ball and is showing the signs of being able to run & lead a defense.
Currently holding just two Power 4 offers, from in state UMD and Syracuse….I will be shocked if that number does not increase this spring/summer. The younger brother of former Good Counsel LB Aaron Chiles, Ashton is on his way to being just as strong of a prospect. I see a lot to like in Ashton’s potential in becoming an elite football player and can’t wait to see his game ramp up next season.

is another name you will become more familiar with for the next few years. After watching him against St. John’s, it becomes obvious why in-state school Maryland was the first to offer him. At this point of the season, Chiles has already been battle-tested. However, the fact that he’s only a freshman and is a varsity starter on one of the top teams in the region and the nation at one point is impressive. Chiles recorded a sack (resulting in a 7-yard loss) in the first quarter that forced St. John’s to punt.
