Despite the loss, he had 242 yards passing and three touchdowns, with the team-lead rushing at 69 yards. His top three targets in the game rank 1-3 in 1A for receiving yards after the game. We will see if he can turn it around against TMSA this week.

Bennett had a monster game for the Hurricanes, rushing for an eye-popping 292 yards and 4 touchdowns in their season-opening win against Kipp Pride, winning 34-36. Bennett averaged two first downs' worth of yardage on each carry, finishing at 20.9 yards with each touch. He also went 1/3 for 28 yards passing and one touchdown in the game, account for all of the scoring output by the Hurricanes. Bennett was buried on the depth chart last fall under a few seniors, but he may have been the best player on the team. He will have a chance to show it again this Friday against Swansboro.

Williams finished the game against Havelock in a barn-burner, with 16 total tackles in the game. He had 10 solo tackles and 6 assisted tackles in their season-opening win, while adding a quarterback pressure in the game. This week, they will take on a New Bern team that impressed with a 48-9 win over Hanover.

Wooten is another junior that was buried on the depth chart by seniors last fall, but answered the bell when his name was called to start as a junior. He rushed for 274 yards and two touchdowns in the season-opening loss to Greene Central. Despite the loss, his 21 carries produced an average of 13 yards per carry in the game, with a long of 59 yards.

Battle went 6/7 for 176 yards in his week one game, with his only incompletion being an interception. He also threw a touchdown in the game, and rushed for 11 yards. While his team lost in a shootout, Battle proved that he and the rest of the Gryphons are a team to contend with this fall. His main target on the night was Kemori Sharpe, who had three of his six receptions and 99 of his 176 yards.
