Defensive Stars Of The State Week 2

Stars Of The State highlights some of the biggest defensive performances across North Carolina throughout the whole game slate for the week! As we did last season, we will list everyone and provide some specific feedback on select players throughout the article. Congratulations to all the players who were selected! Great job!   [player_tooltip player_id='2060117' first='Isaiah' last='Johnson'] - Mallard Creek - 9 Tackles, Interception, Sack, 3 Tackles For Loss in victory over Maury (VA) - Isaiah was all over the field once again for the Mavericks as the defense only allowed one touchdown to a multiple-time state championship team on their home field as they were able to comeback for a big 31-30 victory to push them to an impressive 2-0 start to the season. His range from the middle linebacker position is one of his best traits.   [player_tooltip player_id='1687761' first='Baganley' last='Donzo'] - Trinity Christian - 8 Tackles, 5 Tackles For Loss, 3 Sacks, Safety In victory over Sallie Howard - The 6'7 EDGE prospect had a huge game, and he pairs with this brother to make a dynamic tandem on defense. Baganley picked up an offer from Virginia Tech after this dominant performance specifically.   [player_tooltip player_id='1354435' first='Tyrell' last='Green Jr'] - Asheville - 7 Tackles, 3 Tackles For Loss, Sack and Forced Fumble in victory over Dobyns-Bennett   [player_tooltip player_id='2325235' first='Cam' last='Simpson'] - Corvian - 2 Interceptions, Including a Pick-6, 5 Catches and over 70 Receiving Yards in win over Independence - Cam is an important player on both sides of the ball for the Cardinals, and his play at corner was the star this week for them. He will have to have a big game against Chambers for Corvian to have a chance to get a big victory this week.   Sedric Tabb - East Mecklenburg - Three Sacks and Forced Fumble in victory over West Meck   Jabari Spruill Jr - Country Day - Game-Sealing Interception, 2 Pass Breakups, 2 Tackles in Cook Cup Win over Catholic - One of the more improbable victories in the state last week was sealed by Jabari's impressive interception when Catholic was driving in an attempt to tie the football game. This win could propel Country Day into another tier in the NCISAA, so I'm excited to see how they back this effort up.   [player_tooltip player_id='2325460' first='Jack' last='Browning'] - Community School of Davidson - 2 Interceptions and a Pass Breakup in win over S. Meck - Jack played an excellent game from his defensive back spot, showing excellent discipline in a variety of coverages, tackling well in space, and helping the Spartans to a very impressive win over South Meckleburg on the road.   Brayden Gates-Boyd - Community School of Davidson - 48 Yard Fumble Return For TD, 2 Tackles For Loss in win over S. Meck   [player_tooltip player_id='1521383' first='Liam' last='Drayton'] - Providence - 9 Tackles, 4 Tackles For Loss, 3 Sacks vs. East Lincoln - East Lincoln obviously had a star EDGE player on the other side, but Drayton had a breakout game for himself in this one - he's always had the ability; now he's showing the consistency a high-level player displays week in and week out. If he continues to produce like this, college coaches are going to come running.   [player_tooltip player_id='1398025' first='Thomas' last='Kieffer'] - Pine Lake - 23 Tackles, including 17 solo tackles and a forced fumble vs. East Rowan   [player_tooltip player_id='1957195' first='Davis' last='Weycker'] - Piedmont - 13 Tackles, 4 Tackles For Loss, Sack, Forced Fumble, Blocked Kick in victory over S. Stanly   Kazir Wright - Forbush - 2 Forced Fumbles and big hits in run support from DB position in victory over Wheatmore - I really love seeing corners support well in the running game; Kazir delivered hits like he was a player in the box on his film in this game, so I had no choice but to shout him out with that kind of effort.   Nisaih Smith - Parkwood - 109 Yard Interception Returned For Touchdown in victory over Cuthbertson   [player_tooltip player_id='496368' first='Charles' last='Ibe'] - Providence Day - 8 Tackles, 3 Tackles For Loss, & 2 Sacks in victory over Rolesville   [player_tooltip player_id='1607779' first='Jaxon' last='Dollar'] - East Lincoln - 195 Receiving Yards and a TD, plus Pick 6 and 2 Sacks in victory over Providence - Jaxon was just on another level above everyone in this game. East Lincoln needed every single of his efforts on both sides of the ball to hold off a good Providence team on the road to move to 2-0 on the season. Dollar's interception and touchdown return of a swing pass is just incredible to watch on his own, much less the impressive pressure he delivered coming off the edge in his pass rush.   [player_tooltip player_id='2213283' first='Daniel' last='Carter'] II - Harding - 91 Rushing Yards, 7 Tackles, 2 Sacks, 3 Tackles For Loss in victory over Garinger - Daniel is one of the most versatile players in the state with his height at 6'4 and sheer athletic ability. Playing on both sides of the ball in this one, he was probably the best player on the field in the Rams' big win over Garinger. He will need another big performance this Friday as Harding has a chance to move to 2-1 with a victory on the road at Independence.
