We had a ton of great games in Week 3 around the 704 Metro Area. My colleague Will Helms touched on a couple of those in his Instant Analysis column, so we'll hit on some more notable games that happened involving Charlotte Metro Area schools this past Friday Night.

West Charlotte 20 Summerville (SC) 19

The Lions put up 20 points in the first half on the road, and made that hold up for a big win over an annual power in South Carolina. West Charlotte blocked a field goal on the last play of regulation to seal the victory. Freshman quarterback Devareus Hill Jr. continues to play well, throwing for 174 yards and a touchdown. WR [player_tooltip player_id='2327103' first='Jachai' last='Rankin'] was a main target with 6 catches for 108 yards. LB/DB [player_tooltip player_id='1614125' first='Jesiah' last='Whitlock'] also came up big with 98 yard pick-6 in the first half on the defensive side of the football.

Ashbrook 40 NW Cabarrus 0

The Green Wave made a big statement with a blowout win over a 2-0 NW Cabarrus Trojans team at home. Obviously both sides of the ball played well, but offensively QB [player_tooltip player_id='738731' first='AJ' last='McClain'] was the catalyst offensively, throwing for 213 yards and 4 touchdown passes. On top of that, McClain led a strong rushing attack with 93 of the team's 264 rushing yards on the night. Defensive, LB [player_tooltip player_id='2005380' first='Santana' last='Leach'] had a huge game with 15 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and a sack.

Myers Park 41 Providence 14

The Mustangs coming off of a rough start to the season against some tough opponents, took out some frustration against the rival Panthers with a big win on the road to move them to 1-2 on the season. QB [player_tooltip player_id='1953767' first='Ramir' last='Watson'] played well in this one, and the defense was able to pick off Providence twice, completing an all around good team win for the Mustangs. With the way their conference is looking at the moment, Myers Park has a legit chance to finish 2nd behind Hough if they can consistently play like this week in and week out.

AL Brown 28 Mooresville 27

It was a great game in Kannapolis as the Wonders continued their hot start to the season, moving to 3-0 with a 1-point victory over the visiting Blue Devils. AJ Settles and [player_tooltip player_id='2206330' first='Lemar' last='Grier'] continued to lead the offensive charge, Settles with 2 touchdown passes and a touchdown run, while Grier ran for 153 yards and a touchdown himself. Joining the offensive party this week was WR Ashton Chavis who had 9 catches for 134 yards and 2 touchdown catches himself. Mooresville played well at times in this one, QB [player_tooltip player_id='1604676' first='Weston' last='Michalak'] threw for 289 yards and 4 touchdowns, with his top targets being [player_tooltip player_id='1608303' first='Chanse' last='Bost'] who had 117 receiving yards and Tyler Myers who had 141 receiving yards.

Cuthbertson 51 Cox Mill 37

An offensive show came out of these two teams that have had some struggles so far early in the season. The Cavaliers found success on the ground in a major way in this one, as RB [player_tooltip player_id='1651559' first='Drew' last='Cohen'] broke the school rushing record for yardage in a game with 356 rushing yards in this one. Impressive stuff. As if that wasn't enough, WR [player_tooltip player_id='2336894' first='Alon' last='Miles'] caught 3 touchdown passes himself, as everything was working. Cox Mill had some standouts as well, as QB [player_tooltip player_id='2078902' first='Carter' last='Casteel'] threw for 276 yards and 2 touchdowns, and RB [player_tooltip player_id='1299735' first='Juice' last='Hall'] ran for 110 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Sun Valley 40 Parkwood 28

Sun Valley has had two good wins in a row now, after knocking off Mooresville last week. The star for them in this one was RB [player_tooltip player_id='1607758' first='Joshua' last='Bell'], who had 3 rushing touchdowns. The Spartans move to 2-1 on the season with the victory. Parkwood has been putting up strong numbers offensively, and they still had some good production in this one. QB Smith Barlowe continues to rack up the passing yardage with 330 passing yards and 2 touchdowns. He had a strong connection going with senior WR Anwar Bit, who caught 6 passes for 225 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns himself. Parkwood falls to 2-1 on the season.

Piedmont 35 East Rowan 14

The Panthers went on the road and knocked off an undefeated East Rowan team handily, and they did it behind the power of their offensive line and running back Cooper Wise, who totaled 282 rushing yards on 26 carries with 4 touchdown runs. LB [player_tooltip player_id='1957195' first='Davis' last='Weycker'] powered the defense with 12 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and a very impressive 3 interceptions - I'm not sure if I've ever seen that from a linebacker on the high school level! The Panthers move to 2-1, while the Mustangs fall to 2-1 on the season.

Independence 20 Harding 7

In talking about this game earlier in the week, I said the Patriots needed to get the ball in [player_tooltip player_id='2211520' first='Noah' last='Wright']'s hands to get their offense going. Boy, did they ever do that in this game. [player_tooltip player_id='2211520' first='Noah' last='Wright'] was moved to the quarterback spot and rolled up 208 rushing yards leading the Patriots to the victory. As if that wasn't enough, from his outside linebacker spot on defense, he 9 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks. An incredible performance to move the Patriots to 1-2 on the season. Harding fell to 1-2 on the season.

We had a ton of great games in Week 3 around the 704 Metro Area. My colleague Will Helms touched on a couple of those in his Instant Analysis column, so we'll hit on some more notable games that happened involving Charlotte Metro Area schools this past Friday Night.
