This is a class that will go down in the history books as one of the best in state history. On Monday, we will release our updated 2027 rankings to include the Top 200 prospects in the state. We have a ton of individual breakdowns dropping every day to spotlight some of those special prospects. In this breakdown, before the rankings are released, we're taking a look at this class as a whole and what makes it so special. Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma for more 2027 individual breakdowns!

So first of all, this is a 2027 class that is completely unique from the standpoint that it has a little bit of everything. It has an incredibly deep group that will eventually end up on P4 rosters. As of right now, there are 23 prospects in the state's 2027 class that are committed to P4 programs. Only time will tell what that final number is but we think it's safe to say that it will be up there among the classes in the last few decades. Then there's the obvious star power at the top. This class has three or four (depending on which recruiting service you look at) prospects that are considered among the absolute best in the nation at their position.

But will this class eventually produce three first round NFL draft picks? That was the case for the state's 2006 class. Sam Bradford was the #1 overall pick followed by Gerald McCoy as a top five overall pick and then Jermaine Gresham was later in the first round. Bradford came out of Putnam City North and was the best quarterback in the state his senior year. He won a Heisman trophy at OU before being selected first overall by the Rams. McCoy was one of the nation's top prospects coming out of Southeast. He was a five star prospect that had a very successful college career before being selected in the top five picks of the NFL draft. And Gresham was considered one of the nation's top tight end prospects coming out of Ardmore in 2006. He was drafted in the first round as well.

Looking at Oklahoma's 2027 class, they currently have three prospects that are five star prospects. Fort Gibson's [player_tooltip player_id='1530067' first='Cooper' last='Hackett'] along with Bixby's [player_tooltip player_id='528027' first='Kaeden' last='Penny'] on the offensive line. You also have Mustang defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='1297663' first='Gabe' last='Osborne'] who has that distinction. To earn that fifth star, you have to be considered a potential NFL talent right now. All three just started their senior years of high school so we are a long way away from talking about NFL Draft potential. But they have already started the conversation. Then you have guys like Broken Arrow's [player_tooltip player_id='478124' first='Semaj' last='Stanford'] and Washington's [player_tooltip player_id='473879' first='Case' last='Alexander'] who would be the top overall prospect in just about every other class in the last two decades. It's not out of the realm of possibility for those guys to join the top three prospects in that discussion.

In that 2006 class, Bradford was the top quarterback in Oklahoma but he was not the top quarterback in the nation. He didn't crack the Top 200 in the nation for that class. Now, being just outside of that is very good but he turned into an eventual top overall pick at OU. There are plenty of prospects that are outside of the top five in the state's 2027 class, and for some of them we'll look back and wonder how they weren't much higher coming out of high school. But the answer is simple. This class is special and unique and arguably the best high school class that Oklahoma has ever produced.

We mentioned that Alexander and Stanford would be top overall prospects in just about any other class in the last two decades. You can make that same statement about different tiers of the rankings. Players checking in outside of the top five would normally be inside of it in any other year. Guys ranging from #11 overall to even #25 or #30 overall would be significantly higher than they are right now if they were in a different class. And that same logic applies to the entire class. Even prospects further down the list that are outside of the Top 100 in the latest ranking update. Those same guys would be much higher but this class is special.

How special? Well we're not going to really have that answer for another five years. In 2030 and 2031, we'll be able to look at the college careers and the NFL Draft and see where this class ultimately lands. But in our opinion, when you weigh all the factors, this class has what it takes to be the best in state history. From elite talent that will go on to playing on Sundays to the depth of the class that will flood P4 rosters next year, this class has it all. Three first round picks is the bar to become that top class in state history. We think there are three (if not more) prospects in this class that can reach that level. And plenty more that will have very successful college careers and end up playing on Sundays.

Until then, enjoy every single Friday night that you have an opportunity to watch these special athletes take the field for their high school and their community. The price to watch these players in person will go up significantly starting next year.

Come back to Prep Redzone Oklahoma on Monday for the release of our updated 2027 rankings. We will also have several prospect breakdowns dropping every day this week. And be sure to follow all of our coverage as the 2026 football season is finally here!
