2025 Recap

Another year, another double-digit winning season for Independence under head coach John Lilly. The Patriots finished 10-2 and again proved to be among Class AA's top programs before their season ended in the quarterfinals against Doddridge County. Injuries became a major factor down the stretch after navigating one of Class AA's tougher schedules, falling short of their title expectations. That early playoff exit has fueled the offseason, and the Patriots believe they're even better equipped to make a serious run at a state championship in 2026 with a strengthened and reloaded roster.

2026 OUTLOOK

Replacing a senior class filled with high-impact, multi-year starters is never easy, but Independence is positioned well to handle the transition. Many younger players gained valuable varsity experience last season, and several key transfers have strengthened an already talented roster heading into the fall. There will be new faces to learn across the field who are new to the program or will see extended reps in 2026, but you'll recognize many returners who were some of the Patriots' top playmakers last year. Expect Independence to remain firmly in the championship conversation and make another push for an even deeper playoff run in 2026.

2027 DL Isaiah Conley returns as one of the most dominant defensive players in West Virginia after an outstanding junior season for Independence. The 6'3 standout piled up 22 sacks and 29 tackles for loss, earning our Class AA Defensive Player of the Year honors while anchoring one of the state's top defenses. Conley wins with a rare combination of length, athleticism, and a relentless motor, consistently disrupting plays. Entering his senior season, he'll again be the centerpiece of the Patriots' defensive front and a leading candidate for the Huff Award.

Treadway has the skill set to line up at both running back and receiver while also providing Independence with an athletic linebacker on defense.
Independence has another exciting young athlete to build around in 2029 ATH Paxton Myers. Myers entered high school with a quarterback background before transitioning into a running back role, where he quickly proved he could contribute on Friday nights as a freshman. His burst, change of direction, and overall athleticism make him a threat with the ball in his hands, while his versatility gives the Patriots several ways to utilize his skill set moving forward. As Independence looks to replace last season's leading rusher, Myers should have an expanded role and continue developing into one of the top playmakers in the 2029 class.

At 6'3 170, 2029 Independence WR/DB Konner James already possesses the type of frame that immediately grabs your attention. After spending much of his freshman season developing at the JV level, James is expected to begin carving out a larger role on Friday nights as a sophomore. His length and athleticism give him intriguing upside on both sides of the football, providing Independence with another versatile young prospect to develop. With more varsity opportunities ahead and plenty of physical growth still to come, James has the tools to develop into one of many high-level playmakers in their program.

2029 TE/DL Jacob Fleaming is one of the more intriguing projection prospects in the class. While there isn't much varsity film available yet, Fleaming has the size, frame, and athletic traits that give him plenty of long-term upside on both sides of the football. His evaluation is still evolving as he prepares for a larger role, but the physical tools are evident. With more Friday night opportunities expected as a sophomore, Fleaming has a chance to quickly emerge as another key piece of Independence's talented 2029 class.
