2025 SEASON RECAP

Biggest Losses: OL Landyn Casey - DL Ja'Myere Harris

Bluefield enjoyed another outstanding season in 2025, finishing 11-3 and advancing to the Class AA state championship game before falling to Frankfort in a heartbreaking 49-42 thriller. While the loss stung, the Beavers proved they were ahead of schedule, reaching the title game with a roster loaded with young talent. That postseason run gave an already gifted group valuable experience on the biggest stage, and the foundation is firmly in place for another championship run this season. With almost all of those impact players returning, it's no surprise Bluefield enters 2026 as one of the favorites to capture the Class AA state title.

2026 OUTLOOK

The outlook couldn't be much brighter for Bluefield heading into 2026. The Beavers graduated only a couple of impact seniors from an already young roster, returning a loaded 2028 class that's complemented by several proven seniors and a few talented offseason transfers. That combination gives Bluefield one of the deepest and most complete rosters in Class AA, with experience and talent at every position. The Beavers open the season as our preseason #1 team in Class AA and have all the pieces needed to make another championship run. After coming up just short a year ago, don't be surprised if Bluefield uses that experience as motivation in its pursuit of bringing another state title back to Bluefield.

2027 LB Chadney Stanback is primed for a standout senior season after emerging as one of the leaders of Bluefield's defense during the Beavers' run to the state championship game. Stanback finished his junior campaign with 80 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and three sacks, showcasing the physical, downhill style of play mixed with good athleticism. He attacks the line of scrimmage with confidence, plays with a relentless motor, and consistently finds his way around the football. His continued development has already translated into multiple college offers, with more recruiting attention to come.

2027 RB Willis Wilson gives Bluefield another explosive weapon in an already loaded offense. Wilson has good change of direction, quick feet, and lateral agility to make defenders miss in space. He sees running lanes develop quickly and has the burst to capitalize once he gets through the line of scrimmage. Those traits make him a difficult matchup for defenses and another player capable of producing explosive plays whenever his number is called. With the Beavers returning one of the state's top rosters, expect a now healthy Wilson to play an important role in an offense that should again rank among the best in Class AA.

Bluefield can get creative with how they get the ball in his hands to maximize his athleticism and playmaking ability. Simpson followed a quality freshman campaign that flashed his potential with one of the best sophomore seasons in the state, throwing for 3,400 yards and 41 touchdowns and guiding the Beavers to the Class AA state championship game. His development from year one to year two was evident, as he looked more comfortable and decisive while operating the offense. That production has already earned him his first FBS offer from Toledo, and more D1 programs to follow. With two seasons remaining, Simpson will be one of the top candidates for the JR House Award and one of the biggest reasons Bluefield enters the year with championship expectations.

Calhoun is a matchup nightmare because of his size, athleticism, and ability to win in a variety of ways, forcing defenses to devote extra attention in his direction. His vision and footwork separate him from most backs in the state, allowing him to make defenders miss before accelerating into the open field. Every touch carries big-play potential, and his production backed up what the film showed.
