Paxtyn started off by showing he can move well for a bigger receiver during the testing portion, with marks of 4.88 40-yard dash, 4.85 shuttle drill, 7.41 L-drill, and a top-five mark of a 9’5″ broad jump. These numbers carried over to live reps, where he used his explosiveness to expand an already lengthy 6’3″ catch radius by elevating to haul in passes at the high point or to make difficult receptions outside his frame. Paxtyn’s bigger frame also allowed him to be more physical against DBs, which helped him beat press coverage with his strength and can “out-physical” them at the catch point. After Sunday’s showcase, I can see why Paxtyn is listed as the top receiver in West Virginia’s 2028 class.

Bluefield’s Paxtyn Calhoun has all the tools to be one of the biggest matchup problems at the WV Exposure Series this weekend. The Bluefield standout comes in as the #1 WR in the 2028 class and already holds a spot inside the Top 5 overall rankings, which speaks to the upside and production attached to his game. His combination of size, athletic ability, and playmaking makes him extremely difficult to handle once the ball is in the air. Calhoun feels built for camp settings where receivers can take over during 1-on-1s and create highlight moments throughout the day. Expectations will be high heading into Sunday, and he looks like another strong candidate to leave the event firmly in the MVP conversation.

He totaled 1,200 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns this season on 72 catches and proved to be a top prospect in the class. Calhoun has all of the physical tools that D1 programs will be looking for and expect him to garner attention from that level sooner rather than later.

He’ll rank among the top receivers in the class in our next rankings update after the season, and has as high a ceiling as any pass catcher in this class. At 6’3 185, Calhoun possesses the length and size that top colleges are looking for in a wideout, and he also has the athleticism to match it. He’s a big-play vertical threat and a well-rounded receiver with a bright future ahead of him, both as a player and a prospect.

I originally got my eyes on Calhoun as a seventh-grader, when he was trying out to play for the Tennessee Future Stars team and I caught notice. It’s been a few years, but when his name came around again I instantly liked what I saw (again). He’s been a tremendous deep threat at his listed size of 6-foot and 170-pounds and I can’t wait to see what happens when weight room work and physical maturation kicks in for him.
