The Mustang Broncos came into the 2025 football season as a top five team and expected to be one of the top contenders in 6A-1. They played like that for the majority of the season, with their only losses coming to three of the top four teams in the class and in each game, the Broncos held their own. They opened the season with another rivalry win over Yukon. They would follow that up with a road trip to Broken Arrow, where they fell to the Tigers by a touchdown. They were missing their star quarterback and when he returned, the offense reached new heights. They won three straight, setting up another trip to the Tulsa area to face Jenks in week six. One of the best shootouts of the 6A-1 season took place but the Broncos came up short, falling 55-48. They would then host Bixby two weeks later and on a night that was impacted by weather, they pushed the eventual champions to the brink for three quarters. But the Spartans escaped Mustang with a 38-22 win. The Broncos finished off the season with back to back wins to end the regular season at 7-3. They beat Norman North in the first round to set up a quarterfinal rematch against Broken Arrow. The result was the same, as they fell to the Tigers by 15 points. Mustang would go 8-4 but after back to back seasons in 2023 and 2024 where they were a combined 11-11 and lost in the first round, Mustang took a big step forward in 2025. But now, the Broncos are looking to take another major step forward and really start contending in 6A-1.

2026 OUTLOOK

For the second straight season, Mustang is coming into the season as a top five team in the preseason rankings. The Broncos have half of their starters back from last year's team, but that doesn't mean Mustang will lack experience when they take the field in 2026. Mustang has been a popular landing spot for players this offseason as they've added some very talented players to the roster from around Oklahoma and even another state. For the second straight year, the Broncos had a future D1 quarterback join the program in the offseason. They've also seen a handful of newcomers on both sides of the ball that have multiple D1 offers join the program this offseason. So needless to say, they are not going to be lacking experience and overall talent, despite losing half of their starters to graduation. Offensively, the Broncos are looking to match what last year's team did, averaging nearly 45 points per game. This is a unit that will be led by a very experienced and talented offensive line up front. They'll pave the way for an offense that can be balanced but very explosive in the big play category. Defensively, the Broncos look like a pretty complete unit and that could help them improve from last year, where they gave up nearly 30 points per game. The Broncos look like they will have multiple D1 guys on the line of scrimmage and then a few more in their secondary. They find themselves in a district with the top two teams in the 6A-1 preseason rankings with Bixby and Broken Arrow. So the race for the district championship will be a very competitive one. But Mustang's goal in 2026 isn't just to compete for the district championship. They have their sights set on the gold ball in December.

He comes to Mustang with around ten D1 offers and that list is probably going to grow this fall. Williams was on a pathway to becoming the top defensive back in Kansas' 2027 class. Now, he comes to Oklahoma, where the 2027 DB class is one of the better classes that we've seen in the last few years. Williams is looking to show that he belongs among the best of the best. The potential is certainly there and the frame is there for him to be an instant impact player for the Broncos. He's a potential breakout star to watch this fall.

The blend of athleticism, power and size was a match-up nightmare. Defensively, he would dominate the line of scrimmage as an edge rusher. Wherever Mustang puts him this season, he's going to be an impact player for the Broncos.
Wide receiver and defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='1297663' first='Gabriel' last='Osborne'] has emerged as not only one of the top overall prospects in Oklahoma's 2027 class, but he's one of the top national prospects as well. Osborne first got on our radar shortly after his freshman season at Putnam City. He was clearly one of the best athletes in the 2027 class and his ceiling as a prospect was through the roof. It's pretty clear that we can say now that Osborne has elevated to a point where he's considered one of the nation's best. It doesn't matter if he's lined up at wide receiver or cornerback, anytime he steps on the field, he's going to be arguably the best player on that field. Earlier this summer, he committed to Oklahoma.

2027 wide receiver Issac Woodard is another addition to this Mustang roster and another talented pass catcher that could make this Mustang offense even more explosive. Woodard had a breakout sophomore season with Edmond Memorial in 2024. He emerged as a name to know in the state's 2027 class. Woodard had another strong season last year and now he's moved over to Mustang and he gives the Broncos a reliable pass catcher that can also beat defenses deep and put a lot of stress on opposing secondaries. Despite being new to the Mustang roster, Woodard is going to come into this season as one of their more experienced wide receivers against 6A-1 competition.

2027 running back [player_tooltip player_id='1831650' first='Jayden' last='Reyes'] is a player that we are fired up to watch this season. If this spring was any indication, Reyes has the potential to be one of the top breakout players at the running back position in Class 6A-1 this season. And now truthfully, some of that is because of the experienced and more importantly, talented offensive line that Reyes has paving the way for him. But we caught Reyes making some big plays this spring and he's definitely got some explosiveness in his overall game. The Broncos are looking for a new breakout player at the running back position. They have a couple guys they can run out there but Reyes will be the leader in that department.

We mentioned how Mustang landed another quarterback that will be playing D1 football in the future. 2027 signal caller [player_tooltip player_id='891992' first='Kason' last='Delgado'] moved to Mustang this offseason and has continued to pick up momentum ever since. Delgado has two and a half years of starting experience at other 6A-1 and 6A-2 programs. This summer, he announced his commitment to Louisiana Monroe. Ever since his freshman season, Delgado has been considered one of the better quarterbacks in the state's 2027 class. Now, he looks to lead this Mustang offense to new heights. There is a lot of talent around him to come out this fall and light up scoreboards across the state of Oklahoma.

He might have been flying under the radar coming into this offseason but that certainly hasn't been the case as we get closer to the start of his senior season. Gregg is another newcomer to the Mustang roster, coming over from Edmond North. He holds several D1 offers as he prepares for his senior season. He also joins a pretty talented Mustang defensive line. When we watched Mustang in the spring, Gregg's ability to clog up and dominate the middle of the line of scrimmage was something that stood out to us in a major way.

Bell really impressed us when we caught the Broncos in the spring. Whether it was on offense or defense, Bell performed incredibly well. Bell comes to Mustang from Putnam City West and he does two things right away. He adds playmaking ability to the offensive side of the ball and he provides depth to a secondary that is already incredibly talented. Bell has shown the ability to be a lockdown corner but he's going to provide Mustang with a talent that's been flying under the radar.

2026 SCHEDULE

Aug. 28th - AT Choctaw
- Mustang's 2026 football season will kick off with a road game against Choctaw in week zero. While the Broncos have some familiarity with every team on the schedule, this match-up is a new one. These two teams haven't met since 2013. Of course, the Class 6A split began in 2014 and these two went their separate ways.
Sept. 4th - AT Yukon
- It's the annual rivalry clash with Yukon in week one. But there's no sugar-coating things here. Mustang has dominated this rivalry for the majority of the last 15 years. Mustang won 44-20 last season and that was their eighth straight win in the series and the 12th win in the last 13 meetings with the Millers.
Sept. 11th - Norman
- The Broncos wrap up non-district play in week two at home against Norman. The Tigers have dropped down to Class 6A-2 for at least the next two seasons so these two are no longer district foes. They were from 2022-2025 and it was a back and forth series with both teams going 2-2 during that stretch. Mustang won 54-29 last year.
Sept. 25th - Bixby
- There's not a bigger test for any team in the state than going head to head with Bixby. And Mustang will do it in the district opener in week four. Last year, the Broncos came up short to the Spartans, losing 38-22. But you can make the argument that Mustang pushed the eventual champs harder than anyone else in the regular season.
Oct. 2nd - AT Southmoore
- Mustang hits the road for a week five match-up against Southmoore. This will be the first time these two teams have met since squaring off in non-district play in 2022 and 2023. Southmoore is back in Class 6A-1 after two seasons in 6A-2. The Broncos have an eight-game winning streak against Southmoore that began back in 2016.
Oct. 9th - Edmond North
- The Broncos host Edmond North in week six to kick off the second half of the regular season. This is a series that the Broncos have dominated since these two became district opponents in 2014. In fact, Mustang hasn't lost to the Huskies since 2011. That includes last year's 57-28 victory against Edmond North.
Oct. 15th - AT Broken Arrow
- The Broncos head to the east side of the state on a Fall Break Thursday night to face Broken Arrow. This is a date that the Broncos will certainly have circled on their calendar. They met the Tigers twice last season, once in non-district play and then again in the 6A-1 quarterfinals. In both instances, they came up short.
Oct. 23rd - Edmond Memorial
- Mustang returns home to face Edmond Memorial in week eight and it will be the first time these two teams have met since 2023. They were district opponents in 2022 and 2023 and the Broncos won both match-ups, including a 36-30 decision in 2023. Both teams will be in the running for “best from the west” in 6A-1.
Oct. 30th - AT Norman North
- Mustang will go over to Norman North in week nine and it will be a rematch of a first round game in last year's playoffs. Mustang took care of business, winning 42-17 in the first meeting between these two teams since 2021. Mustang will need to come to play because Norman North certainly hasn't forgotten how last year ended.
Nov. 6th - Westmoore
- The regular season comes to a close in week ten with a home game against Westmoore. The Broncos have met Westmoor in each of the last two seasons but it was in non-district play. This will be their first match-up in district play since 2011. Mustang beat the Jaguars 62-13 last year and also won by 24 points in 2024.

You can make the argument that Mustang's 2025 campaign was the best season of the Lee Blankenship era. Even though Mustang did make the 6A-1 semifinals in 2021, they had a better record in 2025 but came up short in the quarterfinals. The Broncos have been to the semifinals once in the last decade and that came in 2021, when they lost to eventual state champion Jenks by a touchdown. Mustang came into the 2025 season expecting to contend for the state championship. They come into this season expecting to contend for the state championship. Head coach Lee Blankenship is going into his eighth season as head coach of the Broncos. And you look at this roster and you look at some of the talent they have on both sides of the ball and you see a team that, on paper, can contend with some of the top teams in Class 6A-1. But what is their peak in 6A-1? How high can they climb in a class that has been dominated by Tulsa metro teams? Everyone knows the deal with 6A-1 and in the past 6A. Nobody outside of Tulsa county has won the gold ball in the state's largest class since Midwest City won the 1995 6A state title. The Broncos have been a popular pick to end that streak but they have to do it on the field and not on paper.
