The Falcons went 38-6 from 2022-2024 but they lost a pretty special senior group and this 2025 team was going to be really young in some pretty important areas. That youth showed in the early part of the schedule. They lost to rival Douglass in the annual Soul Bowl for the first time in a while to kick off the season. They then dropped a week three game to Heritage Hall before bouncing back with a district-opening win over Blackwell. The following two weeks, they lost to Jones and Oklahoma Christian School before handing Mount St. Mary their first loss. Unfortunately, they couldn't get any momentum from that win as they dropped their next game to Chisholm 42-25. Despite winning their last two games of the season, Millwood was left out of the playoffs. They went from three consecutive trips to the state championship game to missing the playoffs altogether. Again, nobody could see that coming. And the Falcons ended up having a tough break at the end of the year. They finished with a 4-3 district record and were in a three-way tie with Chisholm and Mount St. Mary for the last two playoff spots. But the three-way tiebreaker didn't land in their favor and they were left on the outside looking in. The season came to an end with a 4-5 record but a winning record in district play. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel for the 2025 Falcons. Youth. Those young players that went through growing pains last year will be one step ahead going into 2026. And they'll need that experience because there will be a lot of “new” in 2026.

2026 OUTLOOK

The first thing that will be new with the Falcons this season (and next) is the class. They are dropping down from 2A-1 to 2A-2 starting this season. The biggest thing is the Falcons have a new coaching staff. In May, longtime head coach Darwin Franklin stepped down to become Edmond Santa Fe's next head coach. The Falcons announced Mike Billingsley as their next head coach. He comes to Millwood from Southeast, where he had a winning record in two seasons as their head coach. He takes over a Millwood program that expects to contend right away in 2A-2. And he inherits a roster that has plenty of talent with young, up and coming players. The Falcons also have a handful of new players on the roster that will make immediate impacts. Offensively, the Falcons bring back four starters but the strength of this unit will be on the line of scrimmage with the offensive line. They bring back the majority of their guys up front. They also have a standout wide receiver that has been starting since his freshman season. Right now, they have a quarterback battle going and will have several players stepping into the running back role. Defensively, the Falcons bring back only three starters from last year but they also have a couple major additions on that side of the ball that will make immediate impacts. In fact, when we look at some of the personnel that returns on defense, the Falcons are going to be really strong on the line of scrimmage and then in the secondary. It's going to be tough to move the ball on this defense. The Falcons will be tested in the non-district slate but that should get them ready to open up district play and go on a run in October and ultimately November and December.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

2028 wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1838054' first='Carter' last='Ray']-Thompson returns as one of the more experienced returnees on this Millwood roster and he's just starting his junior season this fall. Ray-Thompson has been a key part of the Millwood passing attack since his freshman season. Last year, he emerged as the top target in the passing game, finishing the year with 35 catches for well over 600 yards and six touchdowns. This offseason, he has seen his recruitment start to pick up and that makes sense, considering he's going to be a four-year starter at wide receiver for the Falcons when it's all said and done. Whoever wins the QB1 position will have one of 2A-2's best at receiver.

2027 defensive back and wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1831887' first='Carlton' last='Evans'] has made the move from Southeast to Millwood and looks to be an instant impact player for the Falcons. First off, he's one of the better cornerbacks in the state's 2027 class. So adding him to this Millwood defense is going to only make them better this season. But Evans also gives the Falcons depth at the wide receiver position. At 6'2 and 175 pounds, Evans can absolutely fly and is a match-up nightmare in a 1 on 1 situation with the ball in the air. When we got a chance to watch Evans in person back in the spring, he was absolutely dominant at the receiver position. He will be a two-way monster for Millwood this fall.

2027 defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1831885' first='Damon' last='Davis'] joins Evans in making the move from Southeast to Millwood. Davis was a breakout star for the Spartans last season, earning All State 3rd Team honors. He finished the year with just shy of 70 tackles and nearly 15 sacks and was in the backfield (it felt like) on every play. There weren't many players that got off to a better start in 2025 than Davis. With him joining Evans at Millwood, he immediately became one of the top defensive lineman prospects to watch in Class 2A-2 this season. He's not the biggest DL prospect but that has not stopped him from beating the guy in front of him and getting in the backfield.

(2025 All State 3rd Team Selection)

2029 cornerback [player_tooltip player_id='1829730' first='Damontre' last='Butler'] is one of a handful of freshmen that got on the field for the Falcons last season. And Butler carried that momentum into an offseason where he emerged as one of the top DB prospects in the state's 2029 class. As a traditional lockdown cornerback, Butler has been lights out this offseason at various 7v7 tournaments and camps. With Evans on one side and Butler on the other, it's going to be very difficult to attack this Millwood secondary. Butler picked up his first D1 offer this offseason and that should be the start of many coming through over the next three seasons. Butler will look to keep that momentum going into this season.

The Falcons had a handful of additions to the roster but they also lost key pieces, including at running back. But the Millwood coaches are confident in 2028 running back [player_tooltip player_id='1838145' first='Josiah' last='Hardy'] as he joins Davis and Evans with the Falcons and looks to be a breakout player for the Falcons this year. Last season, Hardy ran for over 300 yards and six touchdowns in limited playing time. But this year, it's expected that he will be the guy at running back this season. And with the talent and overall experience of their offensive line, don't be surprised if Hardy turns out to be a breakout star for the Falcons. He'll also play defense for the Falcons in the secondary. He finished with nearly 60 tackles on defense last season.

Joining Davis on the Millwood defensive line is 2027 defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1831795' first='Marquis' last='Vick'] and those two make quite the 1-2 punch on the line of scrimmage. Last season, Vick emerged as one of the top guys on this Millwood defense. He finished the year with nearly 50 tackles, eight sacks and was an absolute monster for the Falcons on the line of scrimmage. Even before Millwood added Davis to the roster, they were going to be okay on the defensive line with a guy like Vick returning to cause havoc on the line of scrimmage. After his breakout junior season, we're looking forward to seeing how Vick elevates his play going into his senior season in 2026.

MORE NAMES TO KNOW

[player_tooltip player_id='1396433' first='Donnie' last='Bly'] - 2029 Quarterback
[player_tooltip player_id='1839168' first='Donovan' last='Wrice'] - 2027 Offensive Lineman
Erik King - 2030 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
[player_tooltip player_id='1829734' first='Keith' last='Bundage'] Jr - 2027 Offensive Lineman
[player_tooltip player_id='1832445' first='London' last='Lewis'] - 2027 Quarterback
[player_tooltip player_id='1838141' first='Mareon' last='Parker'] - 2027 Offensive Lineman
Quincy Foreman-Hill - 2027 Athlete

2026 SCHEDULE

Aug. 28th - Marlow
- The 2026 regular season opens up with a big week zero clash with Marlow. This is a rematch of a 2024 semifinal game that saw the Falcons prevail in double overtime. Both teams were in 2A-1 the last few seasons but went different directions. Millwood is now in Class 2A-2 and Marlow was bumped up to Class 3A this season.
Sept. 12th - AT Douglass
- After a rare bye week in week one, Millwood will square off with Douglass in the annual Soul Bowl in week two. This is a game that is always circled on the schedule but it will definitely be circled coming into this season. The Trojans stunned the Falcons last season, winning 22-10. That snapped Millwood's nine-game winning streak against Douglass.
Sept. 18th - Heritage Hall
- Non-district play wraps up in week three with a home game against Heritage Hall. These two teams started squaring off back in 2018 and have played in non-district play ever since. It's a match-up that has been controlled by Heritage Hall but the Falcons won that first meeting in 2018 and they have played some very competitive games.
Sept. 25th - Newkirk
- District play opens up in week four and the Falcons will host Newkirk to begin district play. The Falcons were district opponents with Newkirk before the split in Class 2A. They were district opponents in 2022 and 2023 and the Falcons won each of those meetings by 35 points or more. They'll look to pick up where they left off in 2026.
Oct. 2nd - AT Hennessey
- Millwood goes up to Hennessey in week five and just like with the Newkirk match-up, Millwood is playing Hennessey for the first time since the 2A split. These two teams were district opponents in 2022 and 2023. The Falcons lit up the scoreboard in both meetings and will be looking to continue that trend when they face off this fall.
Oct. 9th - Community Christian
- The Falcons host Community Christian in week six and this is the first of several games that will have major implications on the district standings. The Falcons and Royals were district opponents in 2018 and 2019 and Millwood swept that series with ease but both teams come into this season after a 2025 season that saw them playing a lot of young players.
Oct. 15th - AT Cashion
- It seems crazy to think about how dominant these two programs have been for the last few decades. But when Millwood heads up to Cashion in week seven, it will be the first meeting between these two teams. Both of these programs are entering 2A-2 looking to dominate immediately with Cashion coming up from Class A-1.
Oct. 23rd - Meeker
- Millwood and Meeker have been district foes off and on for the last two decades. And every time they've been in the same district, the Falcons have rolled. Millwood has never lost to Meeker but this will be the first meeting between these two teams since 2021. In the last 20 years, the Falcons hold a 9-0 advantage over the Bulldogs.
Oct. 30th - AT Alva
- Millwood heads north to face Alva in week nine. Similar to the Newkirk series, this year's match-up will be a renewal of a district series that happened before the 2A split. The Falcons and Goldbugs met in 2022 and 2023. The Falcons won both meetings by 20+ points and have been dominant in this series as a whole.
Nov. 6th - AT Christian Heritage
- The regular season comes to an end with a trip over to Del City to face off with Christian Heritage. Similar to Cashion, Christian Heritage is also coming up to 2A-2 after being in A-1. This will be the first meeting between these two teams in nearly a decade. They were district foes from 2010-2017 and Millwood was 7-1 during that stretch.

NOTABLE

If history repeats itself, Millwood is about to go on a pretty memorable run. A few years ago, the Falcons went 4-6 and missed out on the playoffs in 2021. Over the next three seasons, they played for the state championship every single season. The only losses during that stretch came to Heritage Hall in the regular season and Washington in the state championship game. The Falcons and Warriors had some absolute classics from 2022-2024 but the Falcons had to walk away with the silver ball each time. Last year, the Falcons missed out on the playoffs and now look to turn things around immediately. With them dropping down to Class 2A-2 this season, they won't have to worry about another meeting with Washington in Edmond. The Falcons are looking to take Class 2A-2 by storm.
