Metro Christian Patriots OK 2026 Team Preview

For 11 weeks, the Patriots backed up all the preseason hype but it ultimately came to an end in the quarterfinal round. Metro Christian opened the regular season with dominant wins in the non-district schedule. That included going on the road and taking down eventual 3A district champion Cascia Hall by 27 points. Metro Christian continued their dominant play into the district slate, winning every game prior to week ten by four touchdowns or more. They were 9-0 heading into the final week of the regular season and would face unbeaten Tahlequah Sequoyah in a game to decide the district title. For the first time all year, the Patriots had to play a full 48 minutes but they prevailed 27-18 to finish off the regular season with a district title and perfect record. After beating Hugo in the first round, they hosted OCS in the quarterfinals. Penalties and turnovers doomed the Patriots as the Saints put them in an early hole that they couldn't climb out of. The Patriots would put together a second half rally to keep them in the game but the penalties and turnovers were too much to overcome. They lost 30-27 and the season ended at 11-1. Now, the Patriots are once again on the move as they turn the page to 2026 and a move up to Class 3A.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>2026 OUTLOOK</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Metro Christian once again comes into a season as a top five team but things are going to look a little different, sort of. The Patriots are one of many heavy hitters that are moving up from 2A-1 to Class 3A this season. Joining them are defending 2A-1 state champion Jones, Metro's playoff foe OCS and many other teams that spent the majority of last season in the top ten down in 2A-1. So while it's a new class, there will be a lot of familiar faces. But there won't be as many familiar faces on the field as Metro was hit hard by graduation after a special senior class came through. Four starters return on the offensive side of the ball and the Patriots will have a new quarterback and running back. They return one of their top overall playmakers on offense from last season and they'll lean on him, especially early in the season. Defensively, the Patriots bring back five starters from last year's unit that gave up ten points per game. So they will be breaking in a lot of new faces on that side of the ball but they aren't going to be lacking overall talent on the defense. Metro Christian went a combined 23-2 in the last two seasons. They went 10-0 in the regular season in back to back years and won the district title. Now, the Patriots are in a new class and will be competing in a very difficult district. Smith started at Regent Prep last year as a freshman and made the move over to Metro Christian this offseason. At this time last year, Smith emerged on our radar after picking up his first offer from Tulsa before he even started his freshman year. He's the son of former TU quarterback Paul Smith and the natural talent has already shown in the last 12 months. Smith looked good last year with Regent Prep and then he looked solid again when we saw Metro this spring. Taking a look back at some of our notes from this time last year, we knew about Flam but we definitely didn't envision him having the kind of season he had. Now, fast forward to this summer and Flam is in a position to be one of the top targets for the Metro Christian passing attack. Metro Christian's coaches have very high expectations for what Flam will ultimately be for them this season. The Patriots are not lacking athleticism from their playmakers heading into this season. Holder has the advantage of being the guy that has been in the program. He was Metro Christian's JV quarterback last season and showed flashes in 2025 that he could be their quarterback moving forward. Holder is a lefty but also a very underrated athlete. No matter what happens in the QB battle, Holder is going to be a player that more than likely starts somewhere for the Patriots. He can also be a starting cornerback on defense and be moved around on offense. Pinter returns this season with plenty of starting experience on the offensive line. This will be a group that is rebuilt this season after losing a few names to graduation. But Pinter will be the guy that helps set the tone on the line of scrimmage. The Patriots have potential to be one of the better offenses in 3A this season. Last year, Kouplen absolutely exploded on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Kouplen emerged as a playmaker at wide receiver and also played running back. Defensively, he became a hard-hitting defensive back that was a heat-seeking missile on that side of the ball. This year, Kouplen looks like he's going to be an ironman for the Patriots that rarely comes off the field. He'll be their top option in the run game and also remain a viable weapon as a receiver. We watched him go to work in the spring as a backup and he looked really promising. Since then, plenty has changed and Lee has emerged as one of the top two-way players on this Metro Christian roster. Offensively, Lee has moved over to play more of a hybrid tight end/receiver role. As a big target, he's primed for a monster season this fall. Defensively, Lee is a nightmare for opposing offenses when he comes off the edge. Lee has a chance to be a game-wrecker on the defensive side of the ball. The Pirates are back on the schedule after these two didn't play in each of the last two years. They met in 2022 and 2023. They split that series with the Patriots winning in 2022 but the Pirates prevailed in 2023. They were also district foes from 2014-2017.&nbsp;<br><strong>Sept. 11th - Cascia Hall</strong><br>- After a rare week one bye, the Patriots host Cascia Hall in week two. The Patriots have played the Commandos in each of the last two years in non-district play and they also met in the 2022 playoffs. The Patriots won each of those three meetings and look to continue that run this fall. They won last year's game on the road 41-14.&nbsp;<br><strong>Sept. 18th - AT Holland Hall</strong><br>- The first road game comes in week three and it's the non-district finale as the Patriots will go a few miles southeast to Holland Hall. These two teams met in non-district play from 2016-2021 but haven't met on the gridiron since then. During that six-year stretch, each team had a 3-3 record. However, the Dutch won the last two meetings in dominant fashion.<br><strong>Sept. 25th - Eufaula</strong><br>- The district slate opens up with a home game against Eufaula in week four. The Ironheads are the first of several new district opponents for the Patriots this season. They last met in the 2021 playoffs and Eufaula dominated the Patriots, winning 56-21. Before that, they hadn't met on the gridiron since they were district foes in 2005.&nbsp;<br><strong>Oct. 2nd - AT Vinita</strong><br>- Metro Christian's first real road game (where they have to leave Tulsa) comes in week five as they travel to face Vinita. The Hornets are another new district opponent for the Patriots. You have to go back nearly two decades to find the last time these two met. They were district opponents in 2006 and 2007 and Vinita won both meetings.<br><strong>Oct. 9th - Webster</strong><br>- The Patriots are moving up to Class 3A but their former 2A-1 district opponent Daniel Webster is joining them. The TPS program is also moving up to Class 3A this season and is the one district opponent from last year's schedule that's still on the schedule. Metro has rolled to easy wins in each of the last two meetings.&nbsp;<br><strong>Oct. 15th - AT Catoosa</strong><br>- On a Fall Break Thursday night, Metro Christian goes back on the road to face Catoosa in week seven. While Metro is moving up to 3A, Catoosa is dropping down to 3A from Class 4A. This will be the first meeting between these two teams since they met in the 2014 playoffs. Metro Christian prevailed 38-7 that night.&nbsp;<br><strong>Oct. 23rd - Jones</strong><br>- You can make the argument that the biggest game of the year comes in week eight when the Patriots host Jones. Both teams are moving up from 2A-1. The Longhorns won the 2A-1 state championship last year. In fact, the last team to beat the Longhorns was Metro Christian. The two met in the 2024 quarterfinals and the Patriots won 27-21.<br><strong>Oct. 30th - AT Berryhill</strong><br>- Following the showdown with Jones, Metro Christian goes back on the road to nearby Berryhill in week nine. The Chiefs have been one of the more consistent winners in Class 3A for decades. And this will be the first meeting between these two teams in a little over a decade. They were district opponents in 2012 and 2013 and Metro won both meetings.<br><strong>Nov. 6th - AT Jay</strong><br>- The regular season finale features the longest road trip of the regular season when the Patriots head east to face Jay. Out of all the opponents on the regular season schedule, the Bulldogs are the one team that Metro Christian has not met in a previous season. That seems impossible considering how many times Metro Christian has moved classes.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>NOTABLE</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Head coach Jared McCoy is about to enter his 18th season as head coach of the Patriots. He's averaged a little over ten wins per season and it hasn't mattered which class Metro Christian finds themselves in with any particular year. The Patriots are once again on the move, coming back up to Class 3A for at least the next two seasons after spending the last two years in 2A-1. During the last two decades, the Patriots have been one of the top consistent winners in the state, no matter what class they are in. They've spent time in 2A, winning back to back 2A titles in 2019 and 2020. They've also competed in Class 3A and even had a short stint where they played in Class 4A. No matter where you put the Patriots, they find a way to win and win at a high level. McCoy has been a steady presence over the last two decades.
