For the first time in a decade, the Davis Wolves were coming into a new season as defending champions in 2025. They went on an unbelievable run in 2024 to capture their first gold ball since 2014. So all eyes were on them heading into the 2025 season to defend that title. The first month of the season was a complete roller coaster with ups and downs. They shut out Pauls Valley in the season opener before losing to eventual 3A runner up Sulphur in their annual rivalry game. The following two weeks, they beat Plainview in overtime and then lost to Dibble in overtime. And in both games the difference was a single point. But Davis didn't lose again in the regular season. They rolled off six straight wins, including a week nine win over Holdenville on Halloween night. That helped the Wolves capture the district championship. In the first round of the playoffs, they shut out Casady 49-0. They would host Salina in the quarterfinal round and it was a back and forth game for the first two quarters. But Davis hit an extra gear in the second half, shutting out the Wildcats after halftime, setting up a semifinal showdown with Vian. It was a rematch of the 2024 state championship game and both teams had a week off to prepare following the quarterfinal round. The Wolverines had this match-up circled for a while and they came out and played like it. The Davis season came to a close following that semifinal match-up with Vian. They came up short, losing 21-0 and the season ended with a 10-3 record.

2026 OUTLOOK

For the second straight season, the Davis Wolves come into the year as the preseason number one team in Class 2A-2. Last year, they came into the season atop the preseason rankings after capturing a state championship in 2024. This season, they come into the year atop the ranks with nearly everyone back from last year's team and a roster that is very experienced compared to the rest of Class 2A-2. Davis brings back eight starters on offense from last year's team. There is no doubt that the conversation begins with the backfield. They bring back a four-year starter at the quarterback position and one of the best overall players in Class 2A-2 this season. He's joined in the backfield by a running back that had a breakout season with over 1,000 yards and 20 touchdowns last season. The entire offensive line returns and when you combine that with that 1-2 punch in the backfield, you have a unit that is going to be able to do just about whatever they want on that side of the ball this season. Conversely, the defense also brings back the majority of their starters, with seven returning on that side of the ball. We'll see a few of those top offensive standouts turn around and look to bring that same dominating play to the defensive side of the ball. Just like with the last several years, Davis is going to be very tested early on in the season. They play two teams in the non-district slate that are ranked in the top ten of our 3A preseason rankings. That will get them ready for a district lineup that features several new opponents. On paper, 2A-2 is going to be very competitive throughout the season but the Wolves are expecting to make another run to Edmond.

2028 running back [player_tooltip player_id='1702587' first='Creed' last='Rogers'] ended up being arguably the biggest breakout player for the Wolves last season. He was stepping into some big shoes after the graduation of Brenden Rawls and he absolutely excelled. He finished the year with over 1,000 yards and 20 touchdowns as a sophomore. At this time last year, we mentioned that Rogers could be that guy for the Wolves at the running back position but we didn't expect that kind of production right away from the sophomore. Now, he has two more years of high school football left and behind an offensive line that brings everyone back, we could be looking at the beginning of a monster junior year this fall.

There's no doubt that when you're talking about the Davis Wolves, you have to start the conversation around quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1324250' first='Dax' last='Owens'] as he prepares for his senior season. He'll be a four-year starter for the Wolves this fall and in our opinion, he's already established himself as one of the best overall players in the state, regardless of class. The last two seasons, he's been absolutely terrorizing opposing defenses in Class 2A-2. He's an outstanding runner, that's a given considering the offense. But he's also been able to showcase his throwing ability in the last two seasons as well. Owens is the kind of player that can put this team on his back and lead them to a title.

We mentioned earlier in the preview how the Wolves bring back all five starters along the offensive line and that will certainly help guys like Owens and Rogers and the Davis run game. Leading the way in that department is 2027 offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1702591' first='Jacob' last='Silva'] as he gets ready for his third season as a starter up front. He was a critical part of their state championship team in 2024 and is now looking to help lead the Wolves back to the top and cap off his career with another state championship. At this time last year, Silva was helping bring along some of the new faces up front. Now, they now feel like a polished unit, ready to steamroll over the competition.

2027 tight end and defensive tackle [player_tooltip player_id='1329055' first='Landon' last='Gibson'] is another four-year starter that will take the field for the Wolves this season. Similar to Owens and Silva, when you're talking about players that come into this season with an immense amount of experience and therefore they are critically important to the team, Gibson is one of those guys. Like several of the Wolves on this breakdown, Gibson is a player that will stand out on both sides of the ball for Davis this season. But when we watch the impact that Gibson has, it's hard not to lean to the defensive side of the ball. Along the defensive line, Gibson helps set the tone in the middle of that defense on the line of scrimmage.

2027 linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='2241483' first='Maxx' last='Hammer'] was one of the first defensive players that head coach Gregg Parker mentioned as a guy to know heading into this season. Hammer plays the game with a very physical style which completely checks out considering the name and position. Then, we found out the ultimate fun fact about the Davis senior. His first name is actually Jack and he just goes by Maxx. Linebacker Jack Hammer is unbelievable and we'll buy all the stock on him as a defensive standout that we can. Hammer leads a defensive unit that brings back the majority of their starters. We're fired up to see what kind of impact he has for a hard-hitting defense this season.

2026 SCHEDULE

Sept. 4th - AT Lone Grove
- Davis opens up the 2026 football season on the road against Lone Grove. These two teams haven't met since 2019. They played four straight years in non-district play from 2016-2019 before that series came to an end. During that stretch, the Wolves were 3-1 against the Longhorns. But Lone Grove won the last meeting 27-15 in 2019.
Sept. 11th - AT Sulphur
- It's Murray County Bedlam in week two as Davis will go on the road to clash with 3A powerhouse Sulphur. This has been a back and forth series and it's fitting that in the last 20 meetings, both teams are exactly 10-10 against the other. The Wolves are looking to swing momentum back their way after dropping the last two meetings.
Sept. 18th - Plainview
- Davis wraps up non-district play with their only home game in the first month of the season here. They'll host Plainview in week three and it'll be the final tune up before entering district play in week four. Last year, the Wolves won an entertaining game 36-35 and they dropped the 2024 meeting so we'll see the grudge match in week three this year.
Sept. 25th - AT Marietta
- District play for the Wolves will open up in week four with a road trip to Marietta. They are back on the schedule after two years in different districts. These two teams met every year in district play until 2023 before going separate ways in 2024 and 2025. The Wolves haven't lost to Marietta in well over two decades and will look to pick up where they left off.
Oct. 2nd - Prague
- Davis hosts Prague in week five and it'll be the first time these two teams have squared off since 2009. As we mentioned earlier, the Wolves are in a district where the majority of their opponents are new names. These two were district opponents in 2008 and 2009. They split that series with the winner winning 14-6 in both years.
Oct. 9th - AT Lexington
- The Wolves hit the road to face Lexington to kick off the second half of the regular season in week six. The Wolves haven't played Lexington since squaring off in 2022 and 2023 in district play. The Wolves were dominant in those two meetings. Winning 45-12 in 2022, followed by a 53-0 victory over Lexington in 2023.
Oct. 15th - Tishomingo
- Davis hosts Tishomingo on a Fall Break Thursday night in week seven and they'll look to continue their dominance in this series. These two teams have met in district play for the majority of the last two decades. You have to go all the way back to 2005 to find the last time the Wolves came up short. They beat Tishomingo 42-19 last year.
Oct. 23rd - Antlers
- It's another new district opponent for the Wolves here as they'll host Antlers in week eight. Davis hasn't squared off with Antlers since they were district opponents in 2010 and 2011. They absolutely dominated the series during that stretch, winning both meetings by a combined score of 119-7. But it's been 15 years since they've met on the gridiron.
Oct. 30th - AT Dibble
- The Wolves go back on the road for a week nine showdown with Dibble. After meeting early in the district slate the last two years, these two teams will square off on the final Friday in October. The Wolves certainly haven't forgotten how last year's meeting went. They lost 28-27 in overtime after beating Dibble 42-15 in 2024.
Nov. 6th - Valliant
- Davis hosts Valliant in the regular season finale and it'll be senior night for Davis, giving them an opportunity to celebrate a special senior class. Valliant is yet another new district opponent for the Wolves this season. You have to go all the way back to 2007 to find the last time these two met. Davis won 28-18 then and the district title could be on the line here.

NOTABLE

When Class 2A was split into two divisions prior to the 2024 season, Davis was one of those teams that we circled that could dominate 2A-2 for years to come. The Wolves have always been one of the top small school programs in the state but we've definitely seen a power shift over the last decade. Until the split in Class 2A. Davis comes into this season having won double digit games in back to back years for the first time since they went 15-0 and won the gold ball in 2013 and 2014. A little over a decade ago, the Wolves were absolutely dominant, year after year. They would win double digit games and make runs to the semifinals and beyond on a yearly basis. But in the nine seasons from 2015-2023, there was only one semifinal appearance and no trips to the state title game. The Wolves even missed out on the playoffs altogether in 2018. But the split in 2A, along with a truly special senior class, has opened the door for Davis to climb back to the mountain top in Oklahoma. They won it all in 2024. They nearly made it back to Edmond last year. And they come into this season as the top-ranked team in the class, so all eyes will be on them to see if they can keep this momentum going in 2026.
