Lincoln Southeast's [player_tooltip player_id='499433' first='Mason' last='Mehta'] has emerged as one of the more effective two-way players in the state with high upside at TE and as an edge rusher. Mason showed out during his junior season, in which he recorded 394 receiving yards (team leader), 144 rushing yards, three receiving touchdowns, two rushing touchdowns, 52 tackles, five TFLs, and five sacks. Offensively, Mason's biggest strength is his versatility, whether it be where he's lined up or what he can do on a play-by-play basis. His combination of size (6'3" and 230 pounds) and athleticism makes him a tough matchup across the offensive formation. You can put him outside, in the slot, as an in-line TE, and even in the backfield in an H-back role. Mason runs good routes with the ability to attack all areas of the field and has strong hands that make him a lock at the catch point. He can also use his bigger frame to "out-physical" defenders at the LOS or when going up for the ball. Mehta is also a mean blocker who uses good technique, leverage, and hand placement to overpower his opponents. Mason has been very busy this offseason and has paid dividends on the recruiting front with nine D1 offers.

Millard North RB [player_tooltip player_id='212374' first='Kylonn' last='Haynie'] looks ready to spearhead the Mustangs offense in 2026. Playing for the Central Eagles as a junior, Kylonn was able to rack up 730 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 134 carries. Kylonn stands out as a sturdier RB with a 5'10", 210-pound frame that can handle the grind of wearing defenses down between the tackles. He plays with a very powerful yet balanced base that can keep him upright through multiple tackle attempts. His legs are constantly pumping through contact, and he plays with a low pad level, making it even harder for defenders to get a clean hit on him. Kylonn possesses good vision and instincts that allow him to find and identify open running lanes. Once he finds an open lane, Haynie displays great burst when hitting his gaps and accelerates well when trying to separate from defenses. He can change direction and cut back very well with the twitch to make defenders whiff or redirect his runs on the fly.

Westside RB [player_tooltip player_id='1085158' first='TayTay' last='Jenkins'] returns as one of the more electric players in the state. As a junior, TayTay was a pivotal part of the Warriors' offense, rushing for 1,866 yards and 28 touchdowns on 214 carries, averaging 8.7 yards per tote. The most notable aspect of Jenkins' game is his explosiveness. You can't give him an inch of space without him being able to sniff it out and explode through it for a massive gain. Once he finds the open field, TayTay flashes an elite burst of speed and acceleration that makes him a threat to score from anywhere on the field. Jenkins' vision also contributes to him looking very smooth and natural as a runner, especially as he weaves through traffic with few wasted movements. He may not be the biggest back, but he is incredibly strong with a sturdy lower body that helps him maintain his balance through tackle attempts. Jenkins is also an asset as a receiver, having hauled in 17 receptions for 329 yards and three touchdowns. He's very effective when you can get him the ball out in space, where he can use his blockers to rack up some YAC.

Skutt Catholic has some stars on its defense, which should be one of the top units in Class B this fall. One player to watch in that group is EDGE defender [player_tooltip player_id='1086191' first='Beckham' last='Werner'], who had a breakout campaign as a junior with 53 tackles, 14 TFLs, and six sacks. Beckham is a well-rounded edge defender who is effective as a pass rusher and a great run stopper. He does a great job firing off the ball with a quick get off and twitchy first step that can help him win his 1v1s with speed. Beckham also makes sure to keep his hands loaded and ready to get active when handfighting with blockers, showing he can use them to disengage. He can also win his reps with brute strength as he possesses a strong base with a powerful leg drive that help him move lineman off their spots at will. He shows solid bend around the edge while also having the speed to quickly close on the ball. Whether he's chasing down QBs or RBs, Beckham's pursuit of the ball does not stop as his red-hot motor is always running from snap to whistle. When defending the run, Werner showed that he can effectively set the edge by anchoring down and tracking the opposing back in the backfield, before ripping through to make the stop. Good lateral quickness.

Millard West's [player_tooltip player_id='1556216' first='Colton' last='Williams'] is a player who I'm suprised to see flying somewhat under the radar despite two years of high level varsity film. Colton had a very productive junior campaign in which he recorded eight tackles, two TFLs, five interceptions, 25 receptions, 418 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns. Colton has legit upside on both sides of the ball, but I've been very impressed with his film at cornerback. Part of what helps Colton stand out is his athleticism and fluidity in coverage. He plays with loose hips, quick footwork, and a smooth change of direction that allow him to flow with receivers and remain in their hip pocket. Williams displays great instincts and a high football IQ that allow him to quickly diagnose offenses and effectively read the QBs eyes while also having the speed to sharply break on the ball. Once he gets to the ball, Colton is able to show off his ball skills by either being the more physical receiver at the catch point or trusting his timing to undercut a route. Threat to take interceptions back to the house (one pick-six) or tack on a big return. Williams also brings a ton of versatility to the secondary as he's had experience at cornerback, safety, and could even work the slot. As a receiver, Colton has reliable hands and display excellent stop/start when running routes. Very good at going up and attacking the ball. Overall a great athlete who should be a riser once the season starts!
