As with every rankings update, some of the biggest stories come from the players who made the largest jumps. Whether it was strong sophomore film, offseason development, camp performances, or increased recruiting attention, these prospects did enough to separate themselves from the pack and climb the board. Rankings movement is earned, and the players featured here took advantage of the opportunities in front of them to boost their stock heading into their junior seasons. Here are the prospects who saw the biggest rise in the Top 50 in the latest 2028 rankings update.

2028 Logan TE [player_tooltip player_id='1309692' first='Lucas' last='Lambert'] makes a small but important jump in the rankings update, climbing from #6 overall to #2 after a strong offseason on the camp circuit. Lambert backed up the buzz with his first D1 offer from Marshall, and it would be surprising if that remains his only FBS opportunity for long. What continues to stand out is how well he moves for a player of his size. Lambert possesses the athletic profile colleges covet at the TE position, and he has consistently proven he can compete against top talent in camp settings. His stock has been trending upward for months, and it feels like more schools are beginning to realize what West Virginia already knows about one of the state's top young prospects.

2028 Herbert Hoover WR [player_tooltip player_id='1309676' first='Turay' last='Rush'] is one of the biggest risers in the rankings update, climbing from #39 overall to #13 and establishing himself as the #2 WR in the class. Rush has built considerable momentum throughout the offseason, recently earning his first D1 offer from Kent State while also collecting several D2 opportunities after a strong run of camp performances. The move from Capital to Herbert Hoover could prove to be a significant development for his stock as well. Pairing with one of the top quarterbacks in West Virginia should create more chances for Rush to showcase the playmaking ability that has drawn increasing attention from college programs. With recruiting interest continuing to grow and a new opportunity ahead of him this fall, Rush enters his junior season as one of the hottest names in the 2028 class.

2028 Herbert Hoover QB [player_tooltip player_id='1166650' first='Peyton' last='Grigsby'] continues to prove that production and ability matter. While size may be the first thing some evaluators point to, the body of work on the field has consistently outweighed those concerns in our eyes. Grigsby has been one of the more productive quarterbacks in the state and now heads into a season surrounded by one of the better supporting casts in West Virginia. The addition of [player_tooltip player_id='1309676' first='Turay' last='Rush'], among others, only gives him more weapons to work with in an already talented offense. We expect Grigsby to continue drawing attention from college programs and could soon earn FCS offers. He should find himself firmly in the conversation for several of the state's major postseason honors if Herbert Hoover puts together the type of season many expect.

2028 Morgantown LB [player_tooltip player_id='1311026' first='Brooks' last='King'] was already knocking on the door of the top linebacker spot in the previous update. This time, he takes over the #1 ranking at the position, and recently picked up his first D1 offer from Murray State, adding another D1-caliber name to what is shaping up to be one of the deepest 2028 classes West Virginia has produced in recent years. King played a major role in Morgantown's state championship run as the leader of the Mohigans' defense and will once again be counted on to anchor the unit this fall. With proven production, growing recruiting interest, and another big season ahead, King continues to strengthen his case as one of the top prospects in the class.

2028 South Charleston DL [player_tooltip player_id='1624329' first='Dakarai' last='Okafor-Dogan'] is a player we have believed in for quite some time, dating back to when we first evaluated him as a JV QB/ATH. Even then, the physical tools and long-term potential were easy to see. That projection began to take shape last season, when Okafor-Dogan made the transition to defensive line and took a significant step forward as a sophomore. He remains the #2 DL in the class and earns another bump in the overall rankings as a result. College programs have begun taking notice as well, with several D2 offers coming in this offseason. Between his length, athleticism, and developmental upside, Okafor-Dogan possesses one of the highest ceilings among the defensive linemen in West Virginia's 2028 class.

2028 South Charleston DL/TE [player_tooltip player_id='1700973' first='Miles' last='Terry'] continues to trend in the right direction and makes the move from EDGE to DL in this rankings update after spending much of last season with his hand in the dirt. Terry has generated considerable recruiting momentum over the past several months, turning heads with a growing list of D2 offers and increased attention from college programs, living up to what we saw in him early on. Terry has always possessed an intriguing combination of size and athleticism, and those traits have become more apparent as he has continued to develop physically and on the field. With his best football still ahead of him, Terry remains one of the more intriguing defensive prospects in the 2028 class.

2028 Herbert Hoover DB [player_tooltip player_id='1221854' first='Shannon' last='Mitchell'] has done a lot this offseason to ease some of the size concerns that previously surrounded his projection. While continued physical development will be needed, Mitchell's ability has never been in question. Time after time, he has backed it up with strong camp performances and continues to prove he belongs in conversations with the best defensive backs in the class. The recruiting trail appears to agree, as Mitchell has already picked up a handful of D2 offers over the offseason. After showing plenty of promise as a sophomore, we believe he is positioned for a breakout junior campaign and could be one of the bigger names to emerge from the 2028 class this fall.

2028 Huntington DB Gaige McClellan continues to trend upward and now finds himself inside the Top 5 at his position. I had the opportunity to see McClellan in person this spring at a 7v7 event, and his combination of length and athleticism immediately stood out. He has the type of build that is easy to project forward, and there is still plenty of room for physical development as he matures. McClellan flashed as a sophomore depth piece, but we expect his role to grow significantly this fall for the Highlanders. With his physical tools and long-term upside, McClellan remains one of the more promising defensive back prospects in the 2028 class.
