2027 Watchlist-to-Ranked LBs and DBs

It's Week 2 of our 2027 <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2026/05/updated-2027-north-carolina-rankings/">Rankings Update</a> at Prep Redzone. Last week, we dropped a massive update to our 2027 class, with over 190 new players and huge movement within the rankings. One of my favorite lists to look at each update is the list of players who moved from the watchlist to the rankings. We had nearly 40 players make this move during this update, and here are the linebackers and defensive backs who fit the description.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Watchlist-to-Ranked Linebackers/Defensive Backs</h2>    There was an immediate "oops" on my part when I realized <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2026/01/6-players-to-know-for-the-next-2027-rankings-update/">we'd missed him</a> in the last update. The rangy safety has fantastic ball skills and a rare blend of athletic traits that allow him to make plays most other free safeties can't. Despite his height, we like him best in the secondary because his hips, footwork, and speed are fantastic.     In all honesty, Beam probably should have entered the rankings immediately after his strong season for Hibriten, but he sat on the watchlist until we looked at <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2026/02/2027-watchlist-check-in-defensive-backs/">watchlist DBs</a>. A two-way player, Beam was an electric receiver, with eight touchdowns on 20 catches, and those ball skills translate to the defensive side of the ball, where we think his best playing days are ahead of him.     Eich isn't the first guy you think of on Providence Day's secondary, but he was one of the more productive corners last year, with two picks and 10 pass breakups. He's in the midst of a strong offseason, where he's excelled in camp settings and earned a Samford offer.     Ford's profile is promising, and we think he's a potential sleeper at the safety position. He plays primarily in the box, but has some translatable ball skills that lead us to believe he could see an uptick in his pass defense metrics. He's an excellent athlete who isn't afraid to work inside against bigger blockers.     Kearney first hit our radar when I evaluated <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2026/02/2027-watchlist-check-in-athletes/" target="_blank">the 2027 watchlist athletes</a>, and we decided to move him to defensive back in the system after watching his film. After that, he made our <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2026/03/top-6-dbs-in-franklin-nash-wilson-county/">Franklin County DB Deep Dive</a> list, and we saw him in a camp setting. I like his length and overall skill set, and he should be an anchor in a strong Franklinton secondary.     Hawes is a box safety with a rare blend of run-stuffing ability and pure speed. A guy who can flex out into the slot and cover like a corner or come down and play the run like a linebacker, Hawes has a great profile. He's a candidate to move up in the rankings, if he becomes a bit more consistent from down to down.     Archible was a watchlist wide receiver for several cycles, and the switch to full-time corner propels him into the rankings. He had several tackles as a run defender last year, but his explosive metrics indicate there's more ball production to come as a senior.     We've been waiting patiently for Wright's breakout for years, and we nearly added him to the rankings a few times before he actually had the production. Confident it would come, though, we kept him on the watchlist. He's an explosive athlete with good ball skills, the kind of player who can make an impact in coverage or on special teams.     Hall hit our radar when I went through all of the <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2026/02/2027-watchlist-check-in-linebackers/">2027 watchlist linebackers</a> in late February. There, I realized that we'd missed Hall in the winter update. Hall had a massive year for Elkin, racking up well over 100 tackles and making an impact both as a run-stopper and blitzer. His closing speed is excellent, and he's at his best going downhill.    There's plenty to come from Matt Morrow, Joshua Graham, and me on the 2027 rankings over the next week.
