Nebraska '27s Deserving More Recruiting Attention

I'm hopping into the film room to check out some of the hidden gems that we uncovered while updating the 2027 class rankings. In this feature, I'm checking out five hidden gems in the 2027 recruiting class.   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />    Grand Island's [player_tooltip player_id='720359' first='Ryan' last='Boehle'] is a flat-out "lunch pail" player who just shows up and produces from wherever he's lined up. Ryan is being looked at as a defensive prospect who can play on the defensive line or linebacker after racking up 73 tackles, 13 TFLs, two sacks, five fumble recoveries, and two forced fumbles. However, he did really surprise us with a solid 292 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 58 carries on offense. Given Ryan's versatility, I still think his highest ceiling is on defense, where he mostly played defensive end last season, but I could see him move to an inside LB role or even as a 3-4 OLB. Boehle performs many of his duties very well, including holding the edge against the run, before using his violent hands to disengage and continue his pursuit. He is strong enough to collapse pockets with his powerful bull rush, using his leverage and powerful base to drive blockers off the line. Offensively, Ryan plays like a runaway truck that can plow through the heart of a defense, taking defenders down as he does so. His mean streak as a blocker also opened the door for him to be recruited as an H-back type of play. Sleeper prospect ready to shine!      Lincoln East's [player_tooltip player_id='644078' first='Colton' last='Tucker'] is a player who has been high on our radar since his freshman campaign and looks ready to close out his prep career with a bang. Colton is a high-motor 'backer who ended his junior season with 70 tackles, seven TFLs, and a half sack. Colton plays the game like a true throwback thumper who's not afraid to dig his nose into the grindstone. He is very sharp at reading his keys with a quick trigger and first step to get downhill in a flash when he reads the run. Tucker is very effective at filling in his gaps and can use his strength to fight off blockers at the LOS. Great power and leverage at the point of contact make him one of the top tacklers in this LB class. Tucker can also float around in coverage very well, showing he can fluidly flip his hips and roam the middle of the field while being physical at the catch point. Accomplished multiple-sport athlete who can elevate a LB room!      We finally got a better look at Westview mauler [player_tooltip player_id='1192525' first='Wes' last='Freeman'], who is a high-ceiling player with all the tools to succeed. Wes played a key role on one of the top rushing OL units in Class A, and that should continue this upcoming fall. Wes has great size at a lengthy 6'4" and 280 pounds with room to continue adding mass at the next level. Wes moves very well in space, showing he can get out in front of backs on screens and pull blocks while keeping his eyes downfield looking for more work. Wes has a great motor that keeps his base moving while engaged with defenders and has the power in his hips and hands to end his blocks in the dirt. He uses his hands well to engage in handfighting with defenders and will look to work them inside to gain leverage. Wes is still a raw prospect but could be a huge riser by the time it's all said and done!      Although we had been following Bishop Neumann's [player_tooltip player_id='1588476' first='Quin' last='Schutt'] prior to the season starting, he REALLY blew up after a tremendous state championship performance, helping the Cavaliers clinch the title. Overall, Quin had a great season in which he tallied 101 tackles, two interceptions, a blocked kick, 24 receptions, 302 receiving yards, two receiving touchdowns, and two punt return touchdowns. Watching Quin's tape, I was very impressed with his versatility and athleticism on defense, showing he can fit the mold of the modern-day defender. He is very rangy with great coverage instincts that allow him to pick up on offensive concepts quickly, giving him high upside at safety. Schutt also showed that he is more than willing to be a run defender, moving up into the box to provide extra body in run support. Schutt makes sure to get all of his licks when he gets to the ball carrier, providing some highlight hits while still using good form to secure the stop. He has a frame that should hold up well at 6'1" and 190 pounds with solid length. Quin is listed as a tight end, so it was interesting to see him make plays not just as a pass catcher, but showing he can bring the juice as a blocker as well.      Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1086172' first='Parker' last='Douglas'] looks primed to step into Bennington's WR1 this fall after finishing second on the team in receiving yards last season. Parker showed off his dynamic playmaking skills as he hauled in 23 catches for 447 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 19.4 yards per reception. Parker is a well-rounded receiver who is at his best when he can just explode off the ball and take the top off a defense, but he also showed he can work the short and intermediate routes. Parker's quick twitch and clean footwork allow him to get a clean release at the LOS before firing off downfield with underrated speed. His quickness also makes him a threat on WR screens, where he does a great job taking advantage of having blockers in front of him and can follow them for a big gain. He is a solid route runner who can stem his routes very well and shows sharp change of direction at the breakpoint. Great hands and eye discipline to follow the catch through the process.
