Recently I've covered a few different position groups from the 2027 class as a result of watching them for our rankings that just released. I took a look at the running back class while making these rankings and wanted to provide some insight and a look into what I think is a really strong class. It's diverse as well; there are a lot of different kinds of backs who provide different elements for their offenses. These guys are going to make waves in New York High School Football in their senior years.

Kimble's a home run hitter. He's got rare long speed and the ability to run away from guys at the third level. He's thick and fluid, runs upright, and is more of a north-south guy than twitchy. His speed with his powerful running style is not something you'd see very often. He attacks angles on the edges and when he sticks his foot in the ground is able to make powerful cuts. He's a strong runner in between the tackles. Kimble is patient at the LOS and follows his blockers. I'd love to see more of him in the receiving game and how he can put stress on a defense in that way.

Bala's a guy I had the chance to meet while I worked with Elite 11 and All-22, he had actually won MVP amongst the running backs that day. He would look at home on a D1 roster right now-that's how big his frame is and how filled out he is. He's a powerful, powerful back no one is able to bring down with arm tackles. Bala is consistently able to run through defenders, and he's got more burst and a quicker first step than you'd typically associate with a bigger back. He's got the best contact balance of any back in the state. Uncanny ability to stay on his feet in traffic. Keeps legs churning through guys. And he's comfortable as a receiver. He's going to make a D1 program very happy.

Clark plays with a low center of gravity and is a controlled runner-he understands leverage really well and consistently makes defenders look silly. He's comfortable tracking the ball in the air in the receiving game. Clark is super shifty and is difficult for defenders to bring down, he's got elite short area quickness. He can hit an extra gear on some runs, but I'd love to see him consistently get some more explosion and burst in his first step to take his game to the next level. He's got the natural shiftiness, footwork, and understanding of leverage to be special.

Brown is an ideal RB/slot WR hybrid. He's a weapon wherever he lines up and can be deployed in multiple ways on the field. He's a natural receiver. He's the twitchiest of all of the guys here and also has really impressive burst. Brown's got short area quickness, he's got long speed, he can pull away from the third level and turn the corner on anyone. His speed is hit best weapon undoubtedly. I'd like to see him put on a little more weight and become a little more physical between the tackles. It's not necessary to his game but it'd add another dimension. His twitchiness and speed, though, are still really strong traits that you can't teach.

Toher is the most complete runner on this list. He's got short-area quickness, a really quick first step, but can also run through defenders and break tackles consistently. His vision is a weapon. He always makes the right decision in the hole, and always takes the edge and turns the corner when given the chance. Toher glides when he runs, it's unbelievably smooth, and his lower half is super fluid. He's a very complete runner, but I'd love to see him in the receiving game a bit more. That's really the only visible hole in his game that I can see. I'm really excited to see him in his senior year. I think he could put together a really impressive season.
