We've almost done it. After more than three weeks and 250 unique player mentions, we're approaching the end of our RDU Deep Dives series. But there are still several more prospects to cover in the Triangle. Here, we're kicking off the defensive back deep dives with an in-depth look at the best cornerbacks in Wake County.

Editor's Note: The ranked corners are listed in order from first to fifth. Rankings reflect a combination of 2025 production and predicted 2026 impact. Other names in no particular order. Last year, I separated the DBs into corners and safeties. I won't do that for every county, but given the depth in Wake County, we'll split them here.

Hasan is the clear top guy here, as he's one of the best pure corners in the state. He's a guy Cardinal Gibbons can leave on an island while the rest of the defense focuses on the other side of the field. Most impressive to me this year was his impact in the return game, as that wasn't an area of his game I expected to be so strong. Notre Dame has not only landed a bunch of recent North Carolina prospects, but also played them early, something that Hasan has the talent to do at the next level.

Smith flies under the radar, but he's a prototypical corner on a fun defense. He's long, physical, and has great ball skills. His lower tackle number isn't due to any deficiency in his game. Rather, other teams rarely look his way, so he doesn't make a lot of tackles in coverage.

Barnes broke out in 2025 on a really fun Middle Creek defense, and the taller corner is a guy who could thrive in 2026. He's a lab-built corner, with a huge wingspan and fluid hips and ankles. Everything he does looks smooth, and he's developing as a run-stopper. I'm looking forward to watching him closely after Middle Creek loses a couple of pieces in the secondary.

Edwards plays much bigger than his size suggests, and he's a solid cover corner for Wake Forest. He had ample opportunities to showcase his skills against top talent, as Wake Forest's schedule was loaded with elite receivers. I'm excited to see him continue to develop after a two-interception, seven-deflection season.

Archible has been on our radar for a long, long time, mainly as a receiver, but it wasn't until he made the switch to corner that he started to earn consistent playing time. He's long, athletic, and has excellent upside as he continues to develop technically.
