Positional breakdowns will shake themselves out as camp season keeps getting closer here in the Dakotas. We will be able to see who's been developing this offseason into summer camps which will give us further live evaluations. For now, we log our DB10 to DB6s with a handful of DBs in this group that could reach the top 5 by end of camp season in my book.

Zakai could play on either side of the ball at the next-level as the length he has at his disposal translates well in my eyes as a free safety. He's one that is rangy that I feel can cover a lot of ground in the limited DB tape that is out there. Surely should be a sound weapon on both sides of the ball for the 11AAA state runner ups in the 2025 season with his senior season upcoming. A three sport athlete that has a lot of athletic upside yet to show off this offseason and into his senior season.

Reese is an athlete from Oakes that impacts all three levels of the football of the football field, but I like the translation that I have seen in recent years as a defensive back, coming in as our DB9 in this 2027 class. He shows defensively he can play in muliple spots but what he shows off as a cornerback is what reasonates with me most at the next-level. Great ball-tracking ability and well-versed instincts show off quickly with Reese in the corner spot against the 11A state champs. Reese is also more agile than he gets credit for in my eyes, as you surely see that athletic profile come out in the return game. A three-way impact player from Oakes that I could see climbing up our 2027 North Dakota rankings.

I saw the upside of the next two twins in our DB rankings well over a year ago already and you are starting to really see the upside get untapped from [player_tooltip player_id='1625528' first='Madit' last='Ajak'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1625532' first='Chan' last='Ajak'] of Fargo South. Madit's ability to adjust en-route from an agility perspective, has really sped of his development in 1v1 coverage in my eyes. Another area I have seen a lot of growth from Madit comes from the weight room, as he has gotten taller and added about 15-20 pounds to his frame since my first evaluation at our Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase. He's a high motor athlete that surely is another one from this DB list that certainly will get opportunities to play on Saturdays.

Coming in at DB7 is another one of the Ajak brothers from Fargo South in [player_tooltip player_id='1625532' first='Chan' last='Ajak']. The growth Chan has made with his footwork in pass coverage has surely amped up his development over the last year since he first got on my board a little over a year ago. He too has gotten stronger and more length from the weight room and I am intrigued how it has translated to to the field, as Chan surely appears more rangy especially in run-stopping scenarios. He has gained instincts playing on an island in pass coverage and competing against more sizable targets in his junior season with the Bruins as this pair of brothers from Fargo South should get sound attention over the summer.

One of the best 2027 defensive backs I found at the Valley City State prospect camp this past summer was [player_tooltip player_id='2102673' first='Brogan' last='Young'] of Ellendale/Edgeley/Kulm. The 6'1 175 pounder from EEK, boosts the great length that gets shown off with his vertical as the senior-to-be logged six interceptions for the Thunder as a dozen pass break ups as well. His best reps in pass coverage pop out on intermediate and deep routes, while Brogan also has the instincts to shutdown opposing receivers when they are in the red zone. He's got himself a great chance to move into our top 5 DBs in the state upcoming.
