One of my favorite series of the year is the Deep Dives, where we at Prep Redzone North Carolina start going into counties or areas across the state of North Carolina, and ranking talent by specific positions in those areas. My colleague Will Helms has already done a great job in starting his rankings in the Raleigh area, and I will start in Mecklenburg County in the immediate area of Charlotte, then branch out from there.

We will miss some players here and there, and a lot of our evaluation is based on production, film, offers from college football programs, and the existing Prep Redzone North Carolina rankings. If you feel you should be included, be sure to let us know! This article will feature the top wide receivers in Mecklenburg County, listed in ranking order. The Top 5 will get a detailed breakdown, then the other players will get a summarized analysis.

Our #1 player in the 2028 class in North Carolina tops this list, and I'm not sure what else you can say about Braylon that hasn't been said already. His ability to win against man coverage on a variety of routes is impressive, along with the speed and playmaking ability that shows when running routes and making kickoff & punt returns is really special at his size. His recruiting continues to be on fire, with his latest offers coming from Indiana, Norte Dame, Kentucky, LSU, Arizona State, Texas, Virginia Tech, Auburn, and Colorado - all in February!

I've got Jahmere #2 here - he was the second leading receiver for the state champions last season and had 7 receiving touchdowns. Some of those touchdowns came in some big games and critical situations for the Huskies, so the trust level from the coaching staff and his talented quarterback is definitely high. Jahmere has excellent speed to go with his tall frame, and he has a nice catch radius with long arms and strong hands to pluck the ball out of the air. Though he's only got two offers right now, I think it's only a matter of time before his recruiting picks up and interest starts coming a lot faster from multiple programs. He will be a big riser in our next rankings update also.

Steele recently committed to Wake Forest to play college football, so we have to congratulate him on that decision! Steele has excellent speed and is a dynamic threat not only on offense, but on special teams as well. There will be a new quarterback for Providence Day behind center this year, but I still think Fletcher is poised to light up the private school ranks with some big numbers for the Chargers this upcoming season.

Otavio is a special talent with his speed out of the slot receiver position for the Panthers. He is coming off of an injury, but I still believe he's got the ability to be #4 in our list here. As I've said recently, the Panthers have a lot of skill talent returning, and Otavio will have a senior quarterback getting him the football early and often next season. I think he's got a great case to win a comeback player of the year award with the volume he could put up in this offense next season.

With his latest offer coming from East Carolina, Ethan is a tall and fast prospect who comes in at #5 on our list here. Like his teammate in [player_tooltip player_id='1150380' first='Steele' last='Fletcher'], Ethan should have a bigger statistical season for the Chargers as more balls should come his way in the passing game with the graduation of some talented teammates from their state championship team. Ethan shows excellent discipline in running his routes, and has shown the ability to win consistently down the field against 1 on 1 coverage.

Analysis

This is a really talented group of pass catchers that can make some big plays on Friday Nights. The combo of McElroy and Echols for Ambassador Christian promises to be some good football to watch. They are both long and fast, and they will command safety help over the top when going down the field. Rodriguez may be the name you aren't familiar with, but he's speed personified and is a big-play machine for Ardrey Kell.

Pearsall-Brown at Hough is a smooth player who found his way on the field for the Huskies as a freshman! His early offer from North Carolina tells you all you need to know about his bright future. Hicks comes into Palisades as a big play receiver who could put up some big numbers playing with a talented senior quarterback. Caesar at Ballantyne Ridge is an advanced freshman who has an ultra bright future ahead of him. I'm a little surprised he hasn't seen an early offer come his way, he's that good to me.

[player_tooltip player_id='1678649' first='Kam' last='Moore'] is a game breaker with excellent speed who can do special things in the open field. He just didn't get a ton of opportunities last year to do so. I really like [player_tooltip player_id='2112027' first='Zakai' last='Milton'] on film - he's a very good all around receiver who can be a focal point for a passing offense. McGill at Charlotte Latin was a main threat in their passing attack last season with over 700 yards receiving on the outside.
