A Look Ahead: Player of the Year Candidates (Pt. 2)

Next season will be in Indiana before we know it, and with so many top prospects at all class years who are seeing their recruiting explode, the 2026 football season may be the best one yet in the Hoosier State.

In our second of a three-part series, we decided to take an all-too-early look at 12 prospects who could wind up being Player of the Year.

Could an offensive lineman earn Player of the Year honors? Of all the players in Indiana, [player_tooltip player_id='1708630' first='Caleb' last='Johnson'] could be the first. The 6-foot-5, 270-pound offensive tackle is very light on his feet and very athletic, with great foot speed and tremendous skills as a run blocker and pass protector anchoring Noblesville's offensive line.

[player_tooltip player_id='1706244' first='Sean' last='Fox'] has earned his keep as a top prospect in Indiana and could easily become Indiana's top prospect. His sheer size, arm length and athleticism is through the roof. Fox is a very explosive player who wastes no time getting downhill, forcing fumbles and being an explosive pass rusher. He tallied 98 tackles, 6.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles and two blocked punts last year for Warren Central; expect his production to keep going up.

[player_tooltip player_id='2071459' first='Chris' last='Wilson'] is a dominant edge prospect with an impressive frame. Given his size and speed, his ceiling is sky high.

Watching [player_tooltip player_id='923158' first='Jackson' last='Sorgi']'s recruiting and career blossom over the past three years has been remarkable. The son of longtime Peyton Manning backup Jim Sorgi is committed to Louisville and will undoubtedly be a player to watch in Indiana. Sorgi has a quick release, strong arm, good mobility and has great touch on the deep ball. Sorgi had a great year, throwing for 2,911 yards and 31 touchdowns in 2025.

[player_tooltip player_id='1691879' first='Kaleb' last='Elkins'] is the state's top defensive back and for good reason. His 6-foot-3, 185-pound frame and elite ball skills will be valuable assets for any college team who lands him. Elkins also has excellent closing speed, wasting no time getting from Point A to Point B, and delivers heavy hits. Warren Central returns Fox and Elkins this year, and the two could be enough to propel them to Lucas Oil Stadium and compete for a 6A state title.
