Oregon’s top 2027 quarterback prospects

The state of Oregon has produced plenty of big-time quarterbacks over the years, including current college “free agent” Sam Leavitt (Westview, West Linn) and NFL star Justin Herbert (Sheldon).    The class of 2027 doesn't have a marquee recruit… yet.   But several quarterbacks are showing promise, and it's quite possible an arm or two could pop with a big offseason and senior campaign.   Here's a look at some of the top candidates to rise up the board:   [player_tooltip player_id='1358896' first='Andrew' last='Guthrie'], Summit   A 6-foot-4, 210-pound multi-sport athlete, [player_tooltip player_id='1358896' first='Andrew' last='Guthrie'] more than passes the eye test in terms of both size and athleticism.   This fall, he was named the IMC Offensive Player of the Year, as well as first-team all-state honors.   During the season, he threw for 1,546 yards and 18 touchdowns with just 2 interceptions.    Guthrie is beginning to generate some significant college buzz, and like many of the quarterbacks on the list, could climb a tier or two if he shines in camps this offseason - be it showcases or college camps.    [player_tooltip player_id='796694' first='Jordan' last='Rossetta'], Grants Pass    At 6-foot-5, 215 pounds with a 4.1 GPA, [player_tooltip player_id='796694' first='Jordan' last='Rossetta'] checks a lot of the numbers boxes.   And that extends to his play on the field.   This fall, he threw for 2,400 yards with 25 touchdowns and six interceptions, completing 65 percent of his throws in the process.   He was a first-team all-league selection and also earned an all-state nod.   Rossetta earned an Elite 11 regional invite, which could help propel his stock further.   A big offseason will be huge for the young man who has looked the part over the past year.    [player_tooltip player_id='937233' first='Sloan' last='Baker'], West Linn   [player_tooltip player_id='937233' first='Sloan' last='Baker'] doesn't have the size of Rossetta or Guthrie, and his 5-foot-10, 170-pound frame will almost certainly hurt his college stock.   But his production number tell a different version of the story.   As a junior, Baker threw for 2,808 yards and 37 touchdowns with just 2 interceptions and also ran for 545 yards and six scores.   He was flat-out special in his first season as the starter for the Lions.   Baker, who is also a standout basketball player, had the best season of any signal-caller in the state.   It will be fascinating to see if his film and production lead to belief from a college football program in the form of a Division I scholarship.    There are some similarities, in terms of size and production, to Central Catholic's Cru Newman.    [player_tooltip player_id='652600' first='Carson' last='Smiley'], West Linn   People forget that there was initially a quarterback battle this offseason at West Linn.   While Baker ended up taking the reins and becoming arguably the state's top passer, his success may speak volumes about the potential of [player_tooltip player_id='652600' first='Carson' last='Smiley'], who has generated praise from the coaching staff.   The 6-foot, 180-pound passer is a talent in his own right.   But he needs exposure to generate interest.   That effort has to start this offseason on the camp circuit, because his film is limited.    [player_tooltip player_id='937183' first='Aris' last='Dimick'], Tigard    Color me intrigued by [player_tooltip player_id='937183' first='Aris' last='Dimick'].   The 6-foot-4, 200-pound signal-caller and two-year starter has a lot of potential, and this offseason could be huge for him.   Playing for Team Lillard, Dimick may go from “under-the-radar talent” to one of the state's best.   [player_tooltip player_id='1359052' first='Trevor' last='Glos'], Wilsonville    During his junior campaign [player_tooltip player_id='1359052' first='Trevor' last='Glos'] threw for 2,750 yards and 40 touchdowns with 12 interceptions while adding 190 yards and two scores on the ground.   Not bad for a year-one starter replacing Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year Mark Wiepert.    [player_tooltip player_id='2071013' first='Jack' last='Wilson'], Jesuit   Jesuit has churned out big-time college talent for decades, and with a new coach soon to be on the way there's every reason to believe that will continue.   As a junior, the 6-foot-2, 165-pound signal-caller threw for 1,235 yards and 12 touchdowns with 394 yards and nine scores on the ground.   For years, the Crusaders have relied upon “The Franchise,” the nickname for its offensive line, to lead the way for a dominant rushing attack.   But a new coach may open up the offense, and it's possible Wilson could see a major boom in his numbers.    [player_tooltip player_id='1358900' first='JT' last='Girod'], Central    [player_tooltip player_id='1358900' first='JT' last='Girod'] is an elite baseball prospect, who is already committed to the Oregon Ducks.   As a prospect, his status is solidified on the diamond.   But he's a quality talent on the gridiron as well.    He threw for 1,606 yards and 17 touchdowns with three interceptions and added 158 yards and two scores on the ground.   Girod is the highest-rated prospect on this list by far, but that ranking comes from his baseball talents.    [player_tooltip player_id='1242808' first='Braylon' last='Gaines'], Nelson   Senior [player_tooltip player_id='2070152' first='Danny' last='Leary'] after a stellar season in which he was a first-team all-league selection, leaving a void at quarterback for one of the top teams in the state.   [player_tooltip player_id='1242808' first='Braylon' last='Gaines'] could be the answer under center.   As is, he's already blossomed as a star on the court as a point guard.    Could he soon be the team leader on the gridiron as well?    [player_tooltip player_id='936850' first='Hank' last='Whitworth'], Westview   The 6-foot-1, 175-pound athlete can do it all on the football field.   He's a dual-threat quarterback, safety and kicker - and carries a 3.97 GPA to boot.   Whitworth could continue to climb up the rankings with a strong season for EForce 7-on-7 so it will be interesting to see how the next year unfolds for him.   The importance of that timeframe is especially important given that Whitworth missed more than year recovering from a significant injury.   The offseason will be crucial.    [player_tooltip player_id='1257695' first='Emmit' last='Distefano'], Thurston    In his first year as a starter for Thurston, [player_tooltip player_id='1257695' first='Emmit' last='Distefano'] showed promise.   He threw for 2,081 yards and 23 touchdowns with five interceptions, adding a trio of scores on the ground as well.    The three-sport athlete is 5-foot-11, 195 pounds.    [player_tooltip player_id='1940672' first='Micaiah' last='Turin'], Sandy   Sandy seems to be improving in recent years and has produced some quality athletes over the years.   Turin is a two-sport star in both football and track and field (javelin).    He battled injuries during his junior campaign, but is a player to watch.    [player_tooltip player_id='1660165' first='Marlan' last='McCowan'], McDaniel    Two-sport football and basketball star Marian McCowan has shown some serious flashes on the gridiron and is a player we'll be keeping an eye on this offseason - and into the fall.    [player_tooltip player_id='2088802' first='Carter' last='Powers'], Tualatin   The 6-foot-4, 170-pound signal-caller and free safety is a player to keep an eye on.   He's had limited exposure so far, but checks the size and school boxes to be worth keeping tabs on.
