Ranking incoming sophomores is extremely difficult. I'd call it impossible in some ways. There's frankly no way to accurately rank many of these prospects until the summer before Sophomore year. Right now, we're able to watch the freshman year tape and get a basic understanding of each player's skillset. Today, we're taking a quick look at five QBs on the 2029 watch list. All are very likely to be future ranked players.

There's zero question that Bryce has a far better arm than most class of 2029 prospects. His highlight tape is filled with passes 30+ yards downfield, some with quite advanced touch and placement. Furthermore, Bryce has the mechanics to make those throws consistent. He does an excellent job using his entire body while throwing, limiting wasted movement and consistently generating good power. In other words, I like where his throwing motion is at right now.

That said, his highlight tape is still a little one-note. I like that Bryce is able to throw the deep ball with confidence, but there are few quick reads to the short-intermediate areas of the field. It's not a negative, just a question mark right now. Additionally, I wonder how Bryce is as a runner. His measurables indicate that he could develop into a high-end dual threat.

Next up for West Catholic? Turn on Brody's highlight tape, and it's easy to see how he could start on Varsity next season.

This is one of the most well-rounded tapes I've seen from a 2029 QB. Brody's tape includes deep balls (post/go/corner), 10-yards outs/digs, play action, and even a little RPO. This seems like a very advanced playbook for a freshman QB, and Brody has taken it in stride. He usually gets the ball out quick, has great zip on the short throws, and decent touch on the deep balls. My only two real question marks are athletic ability and overall throw power. Both should be fixed in due time.

Keep improving the IQ, rep those mechanics, and learn how to better navigate the pocket, and Brody could quickly become a very good QB in this class.

Gavin brings a fresh style of play to the Everett offense.

A pro-style passer, Gavin has a highlight tape that makes me very optimistic about Everett's offense for years to come. This is another very well-rounded tape. I'm most impressed with the volume of quick, decisive reads Gavin makes. Sometimes, it's a quick slant that Gavin throws with great timing and power. Other times, it's a play-action shot downfield. Gavin is all-around a step above most QBs in this class. Keep improving IQ, and Gavin could be a very good college prospect.

We know that DeWitt has a clear, sound scheme made for winning State Championships. Brayden seems to fit the mold at DeWitt quite well, and he did a good job leading the offense during his freshman season.

Brayden's highlight tape kicks off with a very nicely-placed fade into the endzone. His second throw is similar; a good back of the endzone shot to his WR running a corner. Additionally, Brayden generally does a good job seeing the field. Several quick reads + accurate throws to his receivers in stride. Another 2029 QB with an above-average IQ and arm. Clean up some mechancis, keep at it in the weight room, and Brayden could very well become DeWitt's QB1.

We've had an eye on the southpaw from Cranbrook for a little bit now.

I'm intrigued by Micah's freshman year tape. There's a little bit of everything here. Deep balls, quick reads, and even several cross-body throws outside the pocket. When given a clean pocket, Micah does a good job getting the ball quickly to his first read. I would like to see a little more power behind those quick throws, but generally, they are accurate.

What I'm most impressed with is Micah's ability to evade pressure. At 4:00 of Micah's highlight tape, he does an excellent job stepping up in the pocket when pressure closes in. Additionally, he's a good enough athlete to outrun most pass rushers at the JV level.

Micah's tape is intriguing. A little more raw than some, but still a lot to like about Micah's current game. I'm looking forward to seeing what he's capable of whenever he's brought up to Varsity.
