The Sand Springs Sandites are state champions for the first time in nearly 60 years! They faced defending champion Choctaw and walked away with the 6A-2 state championship following a 32-27 victory over the Yellowjackets Friday night in Edmond. They had to hold on in the fourth quarter and hold off a a furious Choctaw rally to capture that gold ball. In this post, we take a look at five standouts from each team. You can also check out our instant reaction video below, breaking down the game as well as our full game highlights.

6A-2 TITLE GAME STANDOUTS

[player_tooltip player_id='1837040' first='Brock' last='O'Dell'] - Senior Running Back/Linebacker - Sand Springs

There are few players in the state, regardless of class that have elevated their game in the playoffs quite like Sand Springs senior [player_tooltip player_id='1837040' first='Brock' last='O'Dell'] in the last month. O'Dell was one of Sand Springs' top defensive players throughout the season but in the playoffs, he became one of the team's top threats in the run game. He capped off his senior season with a truly special performance on both sides of the ball. Offensively, O'Dell ran 11 times for just under 100 yards and three touchdowns. None bigger than late in the fourth quarter when Choctaw was rallying. On the first play of a drive, he went up the middle for a 47-yard score, dragging a defender into the end zone. He also led the team in tackles with 13 on the night.

[player_tooltip player_id='1179994' first='Da'Jon' last='Green'] - Senior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back - Choctaw

Choctaw senior standout and Boston College signee [player_tooltip player_id='1179994' first='Da'Jon' last='Green'] capped off a terrific career with a solid performance on both sides of the ball. We made the comment in our "instant reaction" video that perhaps Boston College should give him a shot on offense because he made one of the more impressive plays on that side of the ball Friday night. With Choctaw needing a score to get back in the game late, Green made a catch, eluded defenders, broke several tackles before getting into the end zone. But Green also showed why he's one of the top lockdown corners in the state. On a rare mistake by the Sand Springs passing attack, Green came up with the only interception in the game and returned it 28 yards.

[player_tooltip player_id='1837043' first='Dominic' last='Forbes'] - Junior Wide Receiver - Sand Springs

Sand Springs junior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1837043' first='Dominic' last='Forbes'] definitely fits under the umbrella of the most underrated players in the state of Oklahoma. Forbes has already shattered the career receiving records for Sand Springs and he still has senior season to come in 2026. And if there's any questions about Forbes and his ability to play at the next level, they should be erased after seeing what he was able to do on the state's biggest stage, against a talented Choctaw secondary. Forbes ended up leading the team in receiving with six catches and two of those catches went for scores. That included his second quarter touchdown reception on a 64-yard bomb that he hauled in falling into the end zone.

[player_tooltip player_id='449993' first='Easton' last='Webb'] - Senior Quarterback - Sand Springs

Sand Springs senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='449993' first='Easton' last='Webb'] capped off a very special career by leading the Sandites to their first state championship in nearly six decades. Webb has been considered one of the best quarterbacks in the state over the last two seasons and the ceiling for him as an overall athlete is very high. In their championship win, Webb threw for just under 200 yards on 14-20 passing with a pair of touchdowns. And when you look back at the first touchdown pass, Webb was rolling out to his right and delivered an absolute bomb down field for a 64 yard score. Webb got off to a red hot start and led a balanced offensive attack while not ever doing anything that really hurt the Sandites throughout the game.

[player_tooltip player_id='1837047' first='Grady' last='Harris'] - Junior Defensive Lineman - Sand Springs

Choctaw is at their best when they're balanced on offense but they had to work for everything they got and then some in the run game. Leading the way for Sand Springs was junior defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1837047' first='Grady' last='Harris'] and he had one of the best defensive performances of any player on Friday night. The junior standout finished the night with eight tackles, including three for a loss and he also had the only sack for this Sandite defense. Shutting down the Choctaw running game is no easy task but Harris was playing like a man possessed on Friday night. We didn't know much about his game coming into Friday but we're definitely going to be paying attention to him as we flip the calendar and look ahead to 2026.

[player_tooltip player_id='402379' first='Landon' last='Gatson'] - Senior Quarterback - Choctaw

Choctaw senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='402379' first='Landon' last='Gatson'] did everything he could to will his way to another state championship. The senior lefty, in our opinion, is one of the best quarterbacks in 6A-2 but he simply ran out of time Friday night. Overall, he finished 16-25 for 219 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 15 carries for 25 yards but the Sandite defense looked addament on stopping the QB run game and they had success. Gatson had some big moments on Friday and that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. He was a big reason they won the 2024 state championship. The one thing that impressed us the most from Gatson on Friday night was his ability to keep the chains moving early on third down.

[player_tooltip player_id='476091' first='Mayor' last='Morgan'] - Senior Running Back - Choctaw

Choctaw senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='476091' first='Mayor' last='Morgan'] was one of a handful of bright spots on the Yellowjacket offense. Morgan finished the night with 11 carries for 66 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also had three catches for 14 yards but like we mentioned with the Sandite defense, they made the Yellowjackets work for everything they could get Friday night. Morgan was able to break off a few big plays and that shouldn't be surprising to anyone. Over the last three seasons, Morgan has not been a player that could be completely contained. He always finds a way to be productive and in our opinion, he's one of the best running backs in the state's 2026 class. We're looking forward to seeing what he does at the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id='1571077' first='Rocco' last='Tartaglione'] - Senior Linebacker - Choctaw

Choctaw senior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1571077' first='Rocco' last='Tartaglione'] has been one of our favorite linebackers to watch in person over the last two seasons because the Yellowjacket backer does not have an engine that ever slows down. The Choctaw senior led the team with ten tackles on the night, including one coming behind the line of scrimmage. And you watch Tartaglione play the game and even when he's not making the tackle himself, he seems like he's always in hot pursuit and near the play on every single snap. He made things very difficult for the Sand Springs offense and specifically in the run game. Tartaglione is such an underrated player across the state and is the perfect example of a terrific high school linebacker.

[player_tooltip player_id='1035103' first='Titus' last='Hawk'] - Junior Tight End - Choctaw

For the second straight year, Choctaw junior tight end [player_tooltip player_id='1035103' first='Titus' last='Hawk'] was one of the best players on the field in the state championship game. This has been a terrific year for Hawk as he's emerged as one of the top tight end prospects, not just in Oklahoma, but in the country. He capped off his junior season with five catches for 83 yards and a touchdown. We mentioned earlier with Gatson how he was making some big throws on third down early in the game. The Choctaw tight end was routinely on the other end of those. Hawk's recruitment has already blown up and he's one of the more sought after prospects in the state's 2027 class. Friday's performance was another example of why is that guy.

[player_tooltip player_id='1297670' first='Tristian' last='Birmingham'] - Junior Athlete - Sand Springs

Sand Springs junior [player_tooltip player_id='1297670' first='Tristian' last='Birmingham'] turned into one of the X-factors on this Sandite offense over the last half of the season. We've known Birmingham for what he's been able to do at the wide receiver position but over the last six weeks, he's emerged as a legitimate threat for the Sandites in the run game and that was the case again on Friday night. As a runner, Birmingham led the Sandites with 12 carries and he finished with 48 yards. He also made two catches for 20 yards. It's looked apparent that whatever the Sandites needed from Birmingham, he was able to not only produce, he was producing at a high level. We're already looking forward to seeing what he does for an encore in 2026.
