We wrap up our coverage of the winter Prep Redzone Wisconsin Showcase with a look at the best of the defensive back group. This was a fun group to watch. It was headlined by MVP [player_tooltip player_id='2053924' first='Amillione' last='Johnson'], a senior out of Milwaukee Marquette. The senior was pushed by a strong group of up and coming talent in the classes of 2027-2029. This group was explosive, athletic, aggressive, and proved to be very competitive when we got to the 1 on 1 battles vs WRs. It was fun to watch these reactive athletes win reps and dominate the combine. Let's dive into the day of the athletes who caught my attention most.

The junior CB out of Menomonee Falls had one of the best combines of the Showcase. The 5'11" 150 lbs 2027 has 10" hands, ran a 4.72 40, 4.45 shuttle, jumped 9'9" and 10'2" in the broad jump, and ran a 6.84 L-Drill. That broad jump was #1 of the showcase, but it turned out that the combine was just the beginning for Kaleb.

On the field those numbers carried over to his play at DB. Kaleb is so good at being explosive yet smooth. He can close on a receiver or go attack the ball in the air but make it look effortless. He has very fluid hips that paired well with his reactive athleticism allowing him to stick tight coverage rep after rep after rep. The 2027 has been on the rise since the start of the 2025 season. I'm very excited to watch him build on these numbers and also impress coaches with his coverage skills at camps. He could work his way into being one of the big winners of this offseason.

I have been a fan of the way Xavier plays the CB position since first watching him last summer. With another season under his belt, the junior DB seems to be even more confident out on an island. That confidence and his aggressive play style in man to man coverage are needed to lock down a WR 1 on 1. But to do it you need to be able to athletically hold your own vs the WR. Xavier stands out from the crowd because he can run deep, but he can also cut on a dime with WRs while staying right in their pocket and then timing his attack on the ball perfectly. The combine verified those quickness and agility traits too. Dawson ran a 4.34 shuttle, and an elite 6.47 L-Drill. The balance through breaks and power in his acceleration were very evident. Get this kid on campus during the camp cycle and watch him battle, but get him on your radars today.

Freshman DB Arquon Moss had himself a great day at his first ever camp, earning himself a spot in the final Best vs Best battles. The freshman came out and proved that he is going to be a kid that coaches will want to know very early on in the recruiting process. The 5'10" 150 lbs athlete crushed the combine, already putting up a 4.84 40, 4.34 shuttle, and 6.85 L-Drill. The 1 on 1 battles were where the athletic freshman left no doubt that he is going to be a legitimate player in this state. Aggressive and strong at the line with his jam. He can effortlessly transition from backpedal to turning and running downfield or come downhill on the ball, or accelerate through a route break in the quick passing game to get his hands in position to break up the pass. Arquon has a strong bag of tools that he is crafting, both physical and mental. Big things ahead for this kid.

I was not familiar with this kid's game coming into the day, but the Oconomowoc CB left no doubt about his talent by the time Session II came to a close. The 2028 DB was a member of the Best vs Best battles to end the day. A day that started with him checking in at 6' 165 lbs, running a 4.93 40, 4.5 shuttle, and 7.16 L-Drill. Ethan did a great job of playing patient during 1 on 1 reps. He played with very little wasted movement, efficiently going stride for stride and reacting to routes quickly. It was also apparent how well the sophomore could read WRs while covering them man to man. That gave him the ability to know when to look back for the ball, leading to plenty of PBUs throughout the day. Ethan is proving to be one of the names to know at his position in the Class of 2028.

Dane came to play ball at the PRZ WI Showcase. He was among the top performers in the combine, putting up good numbers across the board. He ran a 4.78 40, 4.56 shuttle, 6.47 L-Drill, and jumped 8'8". In 2025 Dane was an All Conference safety for Appleton North, so it was great to get a look at him in man to man coverage at the Showcase. Dane didn't let the new alignment affect his game. He leaned on his quick twitch athleticism to stick to his man and contest plenty of passes throughout the day. He reeled in a really nice INT, making the catch at the high point and away from his body to show off natural hands. The junior is undersized, but he is going to grab attention with those numbers, the production he has while playing at a high level here in WI, and what he will continue to show in future 1 on 1 reps.

I left the Showcase a very big fan of 2027 DB [player_tooltip player_id='2067471' first='Brayden' last='Luckman'] out of New Berlin Eisenhower. The 6' 180 lbs junior has 10" hands, ran a 4.88 40, 4.6 shuttle, board jumped 9'1" twice, and ran a 7.22 L-Drill. I really liked the patience and high IQ plays Brayden made throughout the day. Multiple times I watched him read the route and then the QB perfectly, allowing him to undercut multiple routes and break up the pass. The junior has the athleticism to be able to run with WRs, but that ability to read and react gave him room to be aggressive. There were a few 1 on 1 reps where he ran the route better than the receiver. I could see the junior, who had 10 PBUs and 3 INTs in 2025, earn plenty of attention and offers this summer as a DB.

A freshman that had a solid showing and now has a good base of athletic numbers to build upon is Brookfield Central's [player_tooltip player_id='2067683' first='Israel' last='Frost']. The 5'7" 140 lbs DB ran a 4.87 40, 4.66 shuttle, 8'11" broad jump, and 7.12 in the L-Drill. Across the board those were competitive numbers, especially for his Class. Frost is building the speed to be able to run deep with a WR in man or zone. The quick twitch numbers are really strong, hinting that he can be explosive out of his backpedal and be able to stay tight to his man when jamming at the line. I'm excited to watch Israel continue to grow and develop.
