The 2025 season in the Portland Interscholastic League delivered everything you expect from one of Oregon's most historic conferences: physical football, explosive playmakers, and a wide-open title race that wasn't decided until Week 5. Roosevelt emerged as the league champion thanks to its gritty 18-14 win at Lincoln, a victory that ultimately proved decisive in the standings. The Roughriders rode that momentum into the 6A playoffs, earning the No. 16 seed before falling to No. 1 seed West Linn. Lincoln, which finished second in the standings, also saw its season end in the opening round of the Columbia Cup in a hard-fought defensive battle against Sandy.

Across the board, the PIL showcased a deep crop of athletes with legitimate college potential. Lincoln fielded one of the league's most balanced teams, Ida B. Wells continued to reload with speed and offensive firepower, and both Grant and Franklin produced high-end talent despite inconsistent results. McDaniel and Jefferson each had signature moments throughout the season, while Cleveland battled through a rebuilding year with flashes from a promising young core.

With the regular season and postseason now complete, it's time to recognize the athletes who defined the PIL in 2025. Below is the full all-conference First Team, with detailed evaluations of every First Team selection.

First Team All-PIL

OFFENSE

Quarterback

Davies was the steady field general Lincoln needed during a competitive PIL campaign, showing poise and efficiency as a passer. He tossed 16 touchdowns to just three interceptions, consistently making smart decisions and limiting mistakes. His mobility added an essential dimension to the offense, finishing with three rushing touchdowns and several key runs that moved the chains. Davies' leadership and reliability made him one of the PIL's most complete quarterbacks this season.

Running Back

Burks lived up to his reputation as one of the most physical and explosive players in Oregon, dominating defenses both as a runner and as an all-around weapon. With 570 yards and 10 touchdowns, he was the engine of Roosevelt's offense and the tone-setter for the league champions. His burst through contact and ability to finish runs made him incredibly difficult to contain. Burks' competitiveness and two-way impact made him a deserving Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year.

Galton was one of the most productive backs in the PIL, rushing for 708 yards and nine scores behind his trademark physicality. He excelled at getting downhill quickly and consistently falling forward for extra yardage. His vision and patience allowed Lincoln to control the tempo of games throughout the season. Galton also contributed defensively, reinforcing his status as one of Lincoln's most valuable players.

Hale brought toughness and versatility to the Grant backfield, finishing with five rushing touchdowns and emerging as the centerpiece of the Generals' run game. His ability to create yards after contact was crucial behind a young offensive line. Hale also contributed heavily on defense later in the article, showcasing his all-around value. With another offseason of growth ahead, he returns as one of the PIL's most promising two-way juniors.

Jordan was arguably the most dynamic offensive playmaker in the league, finishing with 836 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns. His effort and consistency made him a nightmare for defenses. Wells leaned on him in every big moment, and he consistently delivered with explosive plays and big-game production. Jordan leaves the program as another dangerous back from Ida B. Wells.

Tight End

Segel was a reliable possession target with strong hands and a large catch radius, making him a vital security blanket in Grant's passing attack. His size and physicality allowed him to compete through contact and win leverage battles at the point of attack. He also contributed as a blocker, helping stabilize the edge for Grant's run game. Segel enters his senior year as one of the league's most intriguing tight end prospects.

Wide Receiver

Cozart was one of the top receivers in the PIL, finishing with six touchdown receptions and showing strong ball skills. His ability to stretch the field opened up Jefferson's passing game, and he consistently won one-on-one matchups on the perimeter. Cozart also made plays on the defensive side, showcasing his all-around athleticism. He leaves the program as one of its top dual-threat talents.

Jordan was a true go-to playmaker for McDaniel, putting up 730 receiving yards and eight touchdowns despite defenses consistently keying on him. His crisp route running and great hands allowed him to create separation at all three levels and finish plays. Jordan also contributed in the return game and on defense, making him one of the most versatile players in the league. His production stood out across the entire PIL.

Crawford brought big-play potential to the McDaniel offense, finishing with three receiving touchdowns and impacting games from multiple alignments. His agility and open-field ability made him a threat anytime he touched the ball. Crawford's experience at quarterback in previous seasons helped him understand spacing and coverage leverage. His versatility helped elevate McDaniel's offense throughout the year.

Utility

Murff was one of the most dynamic and valuable all-around players in the PIL, impacting the game on offense, defense, and special teams. His ability to change momentum, whether through explosive runs, big catches, or defensive stops, made him essential to Lincoln's identity. Murff showed impressive instincts and toughness in all phases. He returns next season as one of the league's most dangerous playmakers.

Offensive Line

Johnson was the anchor of Jefferson's offensive front, using his strength and footwork to create movement in the run game. His ability to reset defenders at the line and maintain leverage stood out on film. Jefferson leaned on him heavily, especially in short-yardage and high-leverage situations. Johnson's consistency and physical presence made him one of the top linemen in the PIL.

Hardy played a significant role in Roosevelt's conference championship season, bringing toughness and leadership to the Roughriders' offensive line. His ability to open lanes inside helped unlock a potent rushing attack. Hardy's discipline and technique kept the offense on schedule, especially in games where Roosevelt needed to control the trenches. His presence up front elevated the unit as a whole.

Lydgate showcased athleticism and strong technique as a young lineman, helping Lincoln maintain one of the league's most balanced offenses. His ability to pull, climb, and execute in space made him a versatile fit in multiple run schemes. Lydgate held up well in pass protection and showed noticeable growth throughout the season. He returns in 2026 as one of the PIL's top junior linemen.
<!-- wp:acf/evaluation-block {"name":"acf/evaluation-block","data":{"player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":["not_in_db"],"_player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_0_player_details_selected_featured_image":"","_player_evaluations_0_player_details_selected_featured_image":"field_62cca28ffa4e7","player_evaluations_0_player_details_player_name":"[player_tooltip player_id='2073820' first='Tanner' last='Naslund']","_player_evaluations_0_player_details_player_name":"field_62aba4c9ecf2f","player_evaluations_0_player_details_graduating_class":"2027","_player_evaluations_0_player_details_graduating_class":"field_62aba4ddecf30","player_evaluations_0_player_details_height":"6'0u0022","_player_evaluations_0_player_details_height":"field_62aba4e8ecf31","player_evaluations_0_player_details_weight":"190","_player_evaluations_0_player_details_weight":"field_65b288425ecf6","player_evaluations_0_player_details_position":"2496","_player_evaluations_0_player_details_position":"field_62aba4f0ecf32","player_evaluations_0_player_details_school":"Ida B. His blend of competitiveness, mobility, and physicality made him effective at the point of attack and when moving laterally. Wells relied on him in both gap and zone concepts with excellent results.
