The first of two 6A-2 semifinal showdowns taking place at Edmond North will see #2 Stillwater face #4 Choctaw. This is a rematch of a game that we covered back in October. Stillwater prevailed 21-14. They jumped out to a 21-0 lead but had to hold off a furious Choctaw rally in the second half. These two teams have built quite the rivalry over the last few years and now a spot in the state title game is on the way. For Choctaw, the Yellowjackets are one win away from getting an opportunity to defend their championship from last season. It's certainly been a rocky season for the Yellowjackets but they are not going to back away from a battle on Friday. They will come into Friday feeling like they have some unfinished business after their second half rally came up short against Stillwater back in week seven. On the other side, you have a Stillwater team looking for their third state title game appearance in the last four seasons. The Pioneers were upset by Piedmont in week nine but have bounced back with two straight losses. The Pioneers might be the most complete team from top to bottom and on both sides of the ball. But they have to put everything together on the field to get a win on Friday afternoon.

[player_tooltip player_id='1173979' first='Satank' last='Taptto'] - Sophomore Quarterback

When it comes to Stillwater, you could pick a handful of different players to list here. But we're going with sophomore quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1173979' first='Satank' last='Taptto'] because of the impact he had in the regular season meeting with Choctaw. Taptto has split time with another quarterback this season but in the game against Choctaw, he was the main guy and he helped the Pioneers jump out to that 21-0 start. In the blink of an eye, Taptto had three rushing touchdowns and put Choctaw in a hole they couldn't overcome. That ended up being the best rushing performance for the sophomore signal caller. It's also one of his best overall games during this breakout season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1830979' first='Kyle' last='Stokes'] - Junior Linebacker

Similar to Taptto, it's hard not to give the nod to junior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1830979' first='Kyle' last='Stokes'] here because of the game he had when these two met in week seven. But more than that, Stokes is definitely a defensive player that is flying under the radar. The Pioneers have several dudes on this defense and Stokes is one that doesn't get as much pub. But in that regular season win over Choctaw, Stokes was one of the best players on the field that night. He finished with just over 20 tackles in the win and also had four tackles for loss. That was the only time this season that Stokes had double digit tackles. He'll look to match that production again when these two square off Friday.

Choctaw senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='402379' first='Landon' last='Gatson'] had one of the best performances of his career in their quarterfinal win over Sapulpa last week. It's possible that he's playing his best football and the Yellowjackets are peaking at the perfect time. In the win over Sapulpa, Gatson threw for nearly 250 yards and three touchdowns and also added over 150 yards and a touchdown on the ground. We've been breaking down 2026 prospects throughout the week and Gatson is considered by us as one of the top quarterback prospects in this class. If Gatson played like he did last week, he could help carry the Yellowjackets back to the state title game to defend their title.

Choctaw senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='587295' first='Zaylun' last='Matlock'] has been a very solid addition to the Yellowjacket offense this season. After standing out but flying under the radar at McLoud, Matlock moved to Choctaw and became one of their top offensive threats this season. Back in October, Matlock had a really strong performance in the loss to the Pioneers. He produced at a very high level against the Pioneers, despite the loss. Matlock has also played very well in the playoffs. He kicked things off in the first round with three touchdowns and over 100 yards receiving. Matlock is still an offensive weapon that isn't talked about enough but that could change Friday.

#1 SAND SPRINGS (9-2) VS #3 PUTNAM CITY (9-2)
Friday - 7:00PM - Edmond North H.S.

With Sand Springs facing Putnam City in the other 6A-2 semifinal, we're guaranteed to see some new blood in the title game. Over the last three years, since Bixby moved up to 6A-1, this class has been dominated by Choctaw, Muskogee and Stillwater. But after Friday, another team will join the club in the battle for the gold ball. Sand Springs has been atop the 6A-2 rankings for the last month and they'll look to get their biggest win of the season Friday. And for head coach Bobby Klinck, it'll be the biggest win during his time at Sand Springs. They started the season 0-2 after losses to Bixby and Owasso but haven't lost since. The Sandites have been knocking on that championship game door over the last few years. They appear to be ready to kick it down. Standing in the way is a Putnam City team that is looking to crash the party. The Pirates rallied to beat Muskogee last week and they are looking to punch their ticket to the state title game for the first time in a long time. Putnam City has the talent to make it to the title game but it's definitely been a while since they've been a true contender. But that means nothing to this year's team. This year's Pirate squad believes they can win it all this year.

[player_tooltip player_id='449993' first='Easton' last='Webb'] - Senior Quarterback

We mentioned our 2026 prospect breakdowns and Sand Springs senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='449993' first='Easton' last='Webb'] was prominently featured. You can make the argument (and we have) that he is the top available prospect in the state's 2026 class, regardless of position. Webb has been one of the very best quarterbacks in the state of Oklahoma over the last two seasons. We're looking forward to seeing how Webb does against a very aggressive but talented Putnam City defense. We think the Pirates will be Webb's toughest challenge since the first two weeks of the season. But there is no doubt that Webb has the talent and ability to lead the Sandites back to the title game.

[player_tooltip player_id='1837040' first='Brock' last='O'Dell'] - Senior Linebacker

So senior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1837040' first='Brock' last='O'Dell'] might not be a traditional "under the radar" player as he leads the Sandites in tackles with well over 100 on the season. But O'Dell also had a breakout moment last week on the offensive side of the ball. The Sandites saw something they liked in the win over Piedmont and they took advantage. That meant O'Dell lined up at running back and finished with nearly 100 yards and four touchdowns on just six carries. Will we see more of that this week against the Pirates? Perhaps. But no matter where O'Dell is lined up on Friday, offense or defense, he's definitely an underrated player that should get more attention in this match-up.

[player_tooltip player_id='434614' first='CJ' last='Turnbull'] - Senior Quarterback

Putnam City senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='434614' first='CJ' last='Turnbull'] is our player to watch for the Pirates because there's not another player in the 6A-2 playoffs that is more successful in the playoffs compared to Turnbull. Granted, all of Turnbull's playoff experience prior to this season was with Millwood. But he was a three-year starter for the Falcons and he is 3-0 as a starting quarterback in the semifinal round. Turnbull is one of the underrated quarterbacks in the state's 2026 class. Similar to Webb at Sand Springs, Turnbull made a massive jump from his sophomore to junior season and he's just continued to progress. He's put up monster numbers as a passer and as a runner this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1829798' first='Nasir' last='Nelson'] - Senior Defensive Lineman

Putnam City has one of the best front sevens in the state, headlined by multiple 2026 prospects that hold D1 offers. Senior defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1829798' first='Nasir' last='Nelson'] is a player that definitely fits the "under the radar" label. We got a chance to catch Putnam City in action earlier this season and Nelson was arguably one of the best defenders on the field. And when we're looking at this match-up with Sand Springs, Putnam City's ability to get pressure on the Sandite quarterback is going to be a huge key. Nelson was terrific at that when we caught the Pirates in person. But the truth is, they come in waves and they have several defenders in the front seven that could have a big night.
