For Level 2 I was itching to get out to a dogfight of a football game. I wanted to see two teams flying around, popping pads, and forcing the other to earn every yard gained. After reviewing the slate I quickly identified Monona Grove vs Germantown as that matchup. The game fit what I was looking for once we kicked off. Both defenses were playing fast, forcing turnovers, and making it difficult to string plays together. Slowly Monona Grove was able to build and hold onto a 7-0 lead thanks to a rushing TD from Makai Fowler and multiple turnovers from the Silver Eagles defense until the final 2:00 minutes of the first half. That is when another turnover, a Luke Schwab INT, set up Monona Grove for a quick drive before the halftime break. QB Jaxon Zukowski delivered with some great passes and a 35 yard bomb as time expired for the TD.

The second half scoring was just as difficult to find. Germantown were finally able to get on the board following some angry running from QB Vinny Inga as he ran through tackle after tackle attempt and fell into the endzone. MG didn't let that momentum last long, though. Once again Makai Fowler was able to get loose and into the endzone to regain that two score lead. Inga and the Germantown offense again went to work following the score. This time they found success through the air with Inga hitting [player_tooltip player_id='1610074' first='Griffin' last='Stein'] for the score. Stein made a fantastic snag in the endzone through traffic to secure the score. Things seemed to have switched and all be coming up Germantown as they got the ball back on a late INT that put them at the MG32 with 1:36 to play in regulation. Unfortunately for the Warhawks, on the first play of the drive DB Henry Hogan corralled the pass attempt and returned it all the way for a pick six. That huge play would be the dagger that gave Monona Grove the win. The Silver Eagles will be in action this Friday vs Homestead for their Level 3 matchup. Congratulations on the impressive win to Monona Grove and good luck this Friday! Now let's talk about some wildly impressive individual talent from this game.

Junior RB/DB Makai Fowler really impressed me Friday night. I was aware of his play as a DB, but it was his play on offense that particularly stood out on Friday night. Makai carries the ball with a natural explosiveness to his movements. Both as a downhill, hit the gap hard runner and with his vision, agility, and jump cuts to get out into open space. Makai was a playmaker Friday night in a big way for MG. He is now a two way athlete to keep an eye on, not just an athletic DB.

What an unforgettable night from the senior DE. Legitimately, Nick is one of the steals of this senior class at this point. He has put together an unbelievably productive season, and in the biggest moments he plays his best. The senior has a strong frame, boosted by a powerful first step, the ability to bend, and effective pass rush moves on the edge. Watching him Friday night vs elite talent and play like he belonged was special. Coaches and recruiters need to check this kid out. Every time I watch him in person he whoops his opponent. In padded camps and in live games. The kid is a prime time performer.

Havoc, chaos, destruction. That is what Deangelo creates and leaves behind from snap to whistle. While undersized, Deangelo has never really struggled in the trenches. He explodes out of his stance and instantly turns that into power. He has the upper body strength to shed OL very quickly and his athleticism for a DL is some of the best I have seen in his Class. So much so that I could see him playing more LB at the next level. Until then, the junior is going to keep being an excellent mismatch in the trenches with his power and speed combo. A duo like Nick and Deangelo can create a lot of success for a defense. Pumped to see how they perform vs that Homestead offense this Friday.

The newest athlete to my radar in this game was Luke Schwab. The senior was a walking highlight reel. Every time he touched the ball it was a huge play. On offense he caught the end of half heave that put MG up 14-0. Setting up that drive the senior caught an INT as a DB. Then the senior spent the rest of the game flying around the secondary making tackles all over the field. Luke was clutch as could be and proved to have a nose for the ball on defense. Definitely a pontential gem to look into.

Tremayne is a tone setting runner. The type of RB that makes sure you have your chin strap tight because he is going to bring the hit to the defender. His finish through contact, powerful lower body, and thick frame overall paired really well with Fowler's explosiveness. Habeck wore down the defense with his carries, but the senior wasn't just 3 yards and a cloud of dust. There is wiggle to his game as he can jump cut away from defenders and create some space. This is another potential steal candidate for the Class of 2026.

The top OL recruit for the Monona Grove offense was senior OG Jackson Fassl. Fassl looks the part with his imposing 6'5" 295 lbs frame and he plays the part. Jackson was impressive in the weight room this past summer and that power translated to the field Friday night. The big man was able to overpower IDL and spring that running game free loose for big plays. Even with the power and the sheer size of Jackson he has still been able to show off his range and athleticism to pull and eliminate defenders. The senior is a force on the interior and a player to check out ASAP.

The Monona Grove offense didn't lean on Jaxon a ton in this game as their run game was able to churn out yards and put up the points necessary. However, it was great to see that the rising sophomore could step up in the clutch moments when called upon. His two minute drive to end the half showed off his quick decision making and precise accuracy. It ended with a display of arm strength to drive the ball to the endzone while still being pinpoint accurate. The sophomore has several other great performances this season to check out.
Vincent has been one of the most fun QBs to watch the last few years. The dual threat QB has a skillset built around his athleticism and powerful running style. On the ground Vinny carries the ball like a fullback. Head full of steam, downhill, play behind his pads, never stop churning his legs, bouncing off hits. His TD run came off the back of 3-4 broken tackles and some impressive contact balance. That balance was on display all night long. Watching him in person made me believe that his future will be in a position where he could handle the ball on the ground or possibly even on defense where he could use that size and physicality. There's also the potential for being a dual threat QB as well, he will need time to develop his passing to take it to that next level. The potential is there to have Vinny be an intriguing chess piece though.

There isn't much that I can say that would be a surprise when it comes to the top OL in WI. Cole is a rare talent. Size, length, power, mobility, flexibility are all coming together to create a serious Power 4 talent at the OT position. Cole plays with the hands and upper body strength of a heavyweight boxer and the agile feet of a featherweight boxer. The power he brings to the field is so natural. It is in everything he does. As soon as makes contact you see that power transfer lead to very negative results for the defender. I'm excited to see where he chooses to commit down the road.

Friday we saw him out at LT filling in for [player_tooltip player_id='1620317' first='Brady' last='Moranski']. Carter was able to hold his own out there. The natural power loaded into his huge frame still was able to shine in the run game as he could help open lanes and create some surge in the trenches. Carter also had some really good reps in pass pro showing that he could get depth and mirror pass rushers as they tried to get the edge. It was definitely new for the junior but he looked comfortable. Carter has made huge strides since last season and could see himself climbing even further up that position ranking at the end of the season.

First of all, congratulations to Christian for setting the school record for receptions in his final game of his career. It was a heck of a career, showing off how well he can provide a reliable target for his QB. The bigger WR does a great job of using that size to win in the quick passing game. We saw that on display often Friday night. Getting him the ball on quick routes so he could easily box out a DB and then run hard to gain extra yards as DBs swarmed to gang tackle him. The senior also showed off some strong body control along the sideline and was the one to step up and make some clutch receptions to keep drives alive. Seeing Alex in person made me even more of a fan. He is such a long DB who can get hands on at the line of scrimmage without getting out of position or overextending.
Jon wraps up a productive career at Germantown. He has been a reliable force in the middle for a few seasons flying around from tackle to tackle. The senior has developed the ability to play through traffic while staying clean. That has been key to his success because he is on the smaller side for the position. When it comes to tackling his frame has never been an issue. The senior is violent, closing quickly and ends plays in a hurry. The D3 programs in the state should definitely take a look at the senior.
