District Finals Scouting Report: Mt. Pleasant vs. Gaylord

Pleasant was able to use their athleticism to spread the ball around and run, while Gaylord attempted to control the ball, control the clock and play a more methodical style. He conducted the Mt. Pleasant offense perfectly all night long. Whether it was making quick hits out to his wideouts, dropping balls in a basket down the sideline or making some big thing happen with his feet, Xavier continued to deal damage to the Gaylord defense. They just couldn't stop him. His arm is strong, his throwing motion was consistent and his athleticism in and out of the pocket allowed him to be a threat to escape for big yardage at any given time. He had the athletic profile to stick out, and he moved extremely well. Once the game hit, I realized he was going to be a force all night long. A few plays, he was able to rush the passer and get into the backfield. His high motor and play recognition helped him see what was coming and get to his spot. The QB had absolutely no way of escaping. A few run plays, Adrian was able to chase from the backside and get in on the tackle, showing off that motor once again. He ended the day with a couple of touchdowns, each of them showing off a little something different. One was a handoff in a goal line situation where he was able to hit the hole at full speed and rip through would-be tacklers. His other one was a nice display of vision to find the open seam, paired with the ability to turn on the jets and fly down the field for a 67 yard TD to blow this game wide open. Some of the biggest positives were his ability to spin and juke his way to some extra yardage when he looked wrapped up. He has a nice hesitation and spin move that made defenders miss if they didn't break down. When he got some daylight, he showed off some good acceleration to break out and fly up field. It was hard to miss 79 out there on Friday night! Tyler is big, powerful and mobile from the tackle position. He has good use of his hands and knows how to get leverage. I noticed quickly he has the mentality that's nearly impossible to teach. Once he disposed of one defender, he trampled on to find someone else to knock over. His motor and aggression was a big factor when Gaylord would find some success on the ground.
