#9 ALLEN (8-3) AT SOUTHWEST COVENANT (8-3)

We kick our preview off with a look at Southwest Covenant hosting Allen. And when you look back at last week's results, these two actually had the two biggest wins of the first round. First with Southwest Covenant. Last year was their first season playing 11-man football and this is their first 11-man playoff appearance. They kicked it off with a bang by going on the road and taking down district champion Konawa. They are one of two 11-man teams this year to beat a district champ. For Allen, they have to be riding high after the way last week's game ended. They stunned defending champion Woodland in the final seconds with a game-winning touchdown. Both teams are playing with a ton of momentum and both teams are hungrier than ever to punch their ticket to the semifinals.

#5 FAIRLAND (9-2) AT #2 MANGUM (11-0)

It's one of two quarterfinal match-ups featuring top five teams as #2 Mangum hosts #5 Fairland as Fairland makes the 300+ mile trip from northeastern Oklahoma to southwestern Oklahoma Friday night. Both of these teams have been consistent playoff teams over the last five years but that's been the ceiling. Both teams finally got first round wins last week and they don't want that momentum to slow down now. Mangum has been, in our opinion, one of the top teams in this class all season and their undefeated record backs up that claim. For Fairland, they've dropped a couple games but they have an offense that can light up the scoreboard. This is also a match-up that is excellent at the quarterback position. Both teams are in good hands in that department and we could see an instant classic Friday.

#8 HEALDTON (9-2) AT #1 TALIHINA (11-0)

Top-ranked Talihina hosts #8 Healdton Friday night and for Healdton, they are looking to keep things going after picking up their first playoff win in a decade and just their second playoff win in the last two decades. They're looking for their first semifinal appearance since 2004 and they might have the most underrated running back in Class A-2 this season. They'll lean on that rushing attack as they try to take down arguably the favorite to win the whole thing in Talihina. The Golden Tigers are undefeated this season and they are hungry to make it back to that state championship game. They had to settle for silver but anybody who covered that team knows that they were destined to bounce back stronger than ever this season. And they might have the best quarterback in this class this season.

#3 THOMAS (10-1) AT #4 HOMINY (9-2) (MARQUEE MATCH-UP)

There's no doubt what the game of the week in Class A-2 is this week as #3 Thomas hits the road to square off with #4 Hominy in a match-up of two teams that are certainly state championship contenders. But for one team, the season is going to come to an end on Friday night.

For #3 Thomas, the Terriers nearly had a perfect regular season. The only loss coming on the road in the final seconds to Mangum. Senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1343473' first='Tye' last='Littlebird'] has been a big part of this program over the last several seasons and nothing has changed this season. Littlebird can beat defenses with his arm and his legs and he has plenty of playmakers around him. Thomas is definitely a team that we could see winning Friday night and going on a run to the state championship game. The winner of this game in general is definitely on the right side of the bracket where you potentially avoid the top two teams in this class in the semifinals.

#4 Hominy came into this season as a state title contender and they've certainly played like that this season. Their only losses came in non-district play to Class A-1 squads Pawnee and Pawhuska. The Bucks ran through their district and has a lot of momentum right now. Like Thomas, Hominy will lean on their senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='858870' first='Blaine' last='Hipp'] and he is one of the more underrated players in the state, let alone in Class A-2. Hipp has been a dominant football player for the Bucks since his freshman and sophomore seasons. He's the type of player that can put the team on his back and carry them across the finish line. We've seen a Hominy quarterback do that in the past and history could repeat itself in 2025.
