Every Thursday throughout the regular season, we're going to add three players to our official Prep Redzone Oklahoma Player Of The Year Watchlist. This list will obviously feature the best of the best in high school football in Oklahoma. Any player, offense or defense, in any class is eligible to be added to the watchlist this season. We're looking for players that have the ultimate impact on their team. Whether it's filling up the stat sheet or having that clutch gene, we want the “it” players that have whatever “it” is. On this week's installment, we're adding three more players. A junior running back that looks to be the next marquee back for a school that has had plenty of them. A senior quarterback who has put up some ridiculous numbers while leading his team to a 4-0 start. And another senior quarterback that has his team right in the mix for the state title race. Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma every day for new content throughout the 2025 football season! And check out our past posts at the bottom of this article to see who else is on the PRZ-Oklahoma Player Of The Year Watchlist!

[player_tooltip player_id='693905' first='Delijah' last='Matthews'] - Junior Running Back - Carl Albert

Prior to this season, we wrote about Carl Albert junior running back [player_tooltip player_id='693905' first='Delijah' last='Matthews'] and how he looked like he could be the next standout running back in this Titan program. And after one month of football, it's glaringly obvious that he is just that. Matthews has run for nearly 600 yards and ten touchdowns through the first four games. He's also thrown a pair of touchdowns as the Titans have now won 43 consecutive games and show no signs of slowing down. And through the first month, Matthews has shined in several different ways. He's had workhorse performances, like the win over Stillwater, where he ran 34 times for over 150 yards and a touchdown. He's also had explosive performances, like the win over Lawton Eisenhower, where he had only nine carries but still went for 168 yards and four touchdowns. Matthews looks like the next great Carl Albert running back and the signs were pointing to this being the case. But the junior had to come out this season and prove it with his play on the field. Now, there's still a lot of football to be played this season and for the Titans, they are setting their sights on making history by winning their 20th state championship in program history. Matthews has backed up all the hype and it's going to be fun to see what kind of performances he continues to have. Carl Albert isn't going anywhere as they continue to reload, year after year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1539927' first='Donavin' last='Garfield'] - Senior Quarterback - Seminole

It's time to start talking about what Seminole senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1539927' first='Donavin' last='Garfield'] is doing this season. Through the first month of the year, Garfield has been an absolute beast on the football field. He's put up arguably the best numbers from a dual-threat quarterback and has helped the Chieftains jump out to a 4-0 start this season. Garfield has thrown for nearly 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns while completing 66 percent of his passes and he hasn't thrown an interception yet. He's also added over 550 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground. In their week three win over Harrah, Garfield ran for seven touchdowns in the win. He's accounted for 23 touchdowns on the offensive side of the ball through their first four games. We're stating the obvious but those numbers are off the charts good. Garfield and the Chieftains travel to Bristow on Friday night and the schedule continues to get tougher from there. They'll face Perkins-Tryon next week and they have a showdown with Sulphur looming in a few weeks. If Garfield continues to perform at the level he's at right now, against top competition like that, he might run away with this award. We have seen a ton of teams and players but we always have a short list of players that we haven't seen in person that we desperately want to see. Garfield is climbing to the top of that list. And because of that, he's earned his place on this list.

[player_tooltip player_id='1292050' first='Kincayde' last='Eng'] - Senior Quarterback - Metro Christian

Metro Christian is 4-0 on the season and they look like a serious contender for the 2A-1 crown. They are once again led by an explosive offense and a very talented quarterback. Senior signal caller [player_tooltip player_id='1292050' first='Kincayde' last='Eng'] is in his second season as Metro Christian's quarterback and he's leading an offense that has not been challenged through the first month of the season. They are averaging around 40 points per game and they've won all their games by 17 points or more. We got a chance to watch Eng in the second half of their week two win over Cascia Hall. He was in complete control of the offense and helped the Patriots light up the scoreboard as they ran away with a 41-14 win, putting up 31 points in the second half. Metro Christian has a long history of excellent quarterbacks that produce at a very high level. Eng looks like the next guy and you could see signs of it last season. And just like last season, Metro Christian looks like they are going to dominate their way through the regular season. They go on the road to face Chandler Friday night and that might be their toughest game before the playoffs. And when you look around at Class 2A-1, it feels more top-heavy than ever before. In addition to Metro Christian, you have three-time champ Washington as well as Jones and Marlow. Eng is looking to guide the Patriots back to Edmond and he has the talent to do just that.
