At a sold-out Mavericks Stadium, fans and teams waited out a 45-minute delay to the start of this game due to lightning in the area. After a scoreless first quarter, West Charlotte found some big plays offensively and rode them to a 32-9 victory and a statement victory against a Mallard Creek team that has beaten some strong programs in their pre-conference schedule. We had some standout performances on both sides offensively. Let's take a look at them here.

Jamouri played another impressive game in a season where he has played like an MVP candidate the vast majority of the time. In this one, Jamouri threw for three touchdown passes and ran for another one. On his touchdowns, Nichols showed accuracy, along with his ability to throw on the run. His TD run was a quarterback inside zone play blocked very well, but he showed his burst and speed into the open field, not even getting close to being caught from behind. It was an impressive performance against a Mavericks defense who had been playing well coming into the game.

We have Rakim ranked #15 in the state, but I'm starting to wonder if even that is too low. Rakim had all three touchdown catches from his quarterback in this one. The first one was a short pass where it was a 4th &1 from their own 30 yard line. Rakim made a couple of Mavericks defenders miss and he was off to the races. On the 2nd TD, it was a great play call as the middle of the field was wide open on a quick post route. The 3rd one, Rakim was able to high point the football in the corner of the end zone off a scramble situation. I spoke with Rakim after the game.

Donte had a couple of short catches, however his effect on the game isn't seen in the stats. Donte had at least four pass interference penalties called on Mallard Creek defenders covering him, and it ended up being a real weapon to keep drives alive for the Lions. The Mavericks could not stay with Donte on any downfield routes, and I think the attention he drew from the defense opened up his teammates to have some big games statistically. Donte is committed to Charlotte, and they got a good one with him.

Even though we have Jaciere rated pretty highly, he is a bit under the radar with all of the talent the Lions have on their roster. Jaciere was over 100 yards rushing on the game, with the vast majority of his production on his 90 yard TD run in the 4th quarter. On the play, Jaciere really showed off his burst and overall speed as he knifed through the Mavericks defense to take it the distance. Jaciere has an offer from Syracuse, and if he continues to produce like this, he's going to see much more come his way. I spoke with Jaciere after the game.

i thought Jorquis was impressive in this game. I liked his run blocking and pass protection, but what really stood out to me was his leadership and voice. He was communicating with his linemen and teammates, and consistently giving feedback to the coaching staff on how the defensive front was lining up and which plays could attack it. As a former OL coach, that stuff gets you excited. I see a leader up front for the Lions that can help take them a long way this year.

Khalil has been having a breakout senior season, and it continued in this game. His highlight play was the first play of the 2nd half and it was a nice design that confused the West Charlotte defense and left him absolutely wide open in the middle of the field. Khalil took it the distance for the touchdown and gave his team a brief spark they desperately needed to get back into the game. Khalil had several catches throughout the game and should be near 100 yards receiving along with his touchdown.

Mallard Creek rotated a few different running backs in this game, and I thought Xzavier was the most impressive one. He showed some ability to catch and run out of the backfield, and he had a couple of nice runs up the middle where he was able to run through some initial contact for first downs. I thought Xzavier had a nice burst through the hole and he gave the offense some life when the game was still in question.

Cailen didn't start this game, however when he entered, the Mallard Creek offense got moving and showed some life. I like Cailen's arm strength a lot, he has shown the ability to stretch the defense well on the deep ball. Cailen isn't a dual-threat player just yet, but he can move and avoid pressure, and execute on designed roll-outs and play action types of plays in the offense. As he grows, he's going to be a really good player and I'm excited to see it happen.
