Moving back up to Class 3A this week, Class 3A saw a lot of changes in the standings with some of the juggernauts of the conference taking a back seat to several rising units that have surprised us through the first two weeks of the 2025 season. Today, we recap what went down in Class 3A Iowa and the top standouts that came from this group over this last week!

A thrilling classic between close rivals, Winterset seemed to have the game put away leading 21-7 heading into 4th quarter. Creston came roaring back to life to cut the deficit to just 1 point late in the game. Unfortunately, a controversial inadvertent whistle call on a fumbled run by Winterset nullified a turnover that would've given Creston an opportunity to engineer a winning drive. In the end, the Panthers' defense proved no match to the Huskies' run-game, which compiled 311 rushing yards on the ground, and were ultimately able to run the clock out following the close call.

Top Performer: Ben Porter (SR) - Leading the way for the Huskies' potent rushing attack, Porter ran for 189 yards on just 25 carries (7.6 YPC) and a rushing TD. At MLB, he added 3.5 tackles (2 solo), 1 TFL, and 1 sack.

Maybe not the best result, but it was one of the most anticipated matchups across the high school scene in Iowa this week between two of the very best teams in the conference. Humbolt led 7-6 at halftime, but Clear Lake would end up completely demolishing the Wildcats in the second half, limiting Humboldt's offense to just 116 total yards, forcing 2 turnovers, and ultimately scoring 17 unanswered points in the second half to earn a statement win on the road, earning Clear Lake's first win against the Wildcats since 2013, and re-establishing the Lions as maybe the top team to beat in this conference going forward.

Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='1204540' first='Jaxson' last='McIntire'] (JR) - McIntire was nearly on point going against the Wildcats' stingy defense, finishing 11/15 for 115 yards, a touchdown, and an INT, while rushing for a team-high 88 yards on 17 carries and 2 TDs, not to mention also adding an interception on defense.

Taking on one of the top Class 2A teams at home, Nevada had their work cut out for them in a tightly contested battle, and even though Nevada outpaced the Mustangs offensively (492-303), PCM took a 28-24 lead with just over a minute and a half left in the game. In the end, in one of the most exciting finishes in recent high school football history in Iowa, QB [player_tooltip player_id='1706470' first='Drake' last='Hinson'] hit WR [player_tooltip player_id='1242280' first='John' last='Nelson'] in the endzone on a 35 yard hail-mary as time expired to give Nevada an improbable victory 30-28.
