. Burton completed over 61% of his passes, throwing for 2191 yards, 25 TDs, and 12 INTs while adding 4 rushing TDs. With the run-game largely inefficient in 2025, the Chiefs were forced to rely heavily on the passing game, and Burton immediately flashed with a heavy workload. Burton flashed with his strong arm, nailing several vertical shots on his tape with great velocity and arc on his throws, while also doing a great job extending the play with his legs. Burton has clearly clinched his role as a leader for the Chiefs’ offense, and with Burton under Center, Keokuk could be on the rise within the conference over the next few seasons.

Burton’s coach at Keokuk, former Iowa All-American receiver Marvin McNutt, knows offense. The Chiefs showed that this season with Burton at the controls. The sophomore completed 61.2 percent of his throws for 2,191 yards and 25 touchdowns against 12 interceptions. He added four scores on the ground. Burton also contributed 2.0 tackles on defense, illustrating his athleticism and versatility. When popping on Burton’s 10th-grade highlight video, we witness a mobile signal caller adept at buying time with his legs or picking up yardage if there’s an opening. As a thrower, Burton displays a quick release and an ability to push the ball down the field. He shines at ball placement, getting the rock into his receivers’ hands so they can make a play and, often, pick of real estate after the catch.

and Keokuk haven’t been perfect this season — far from it, in fact. But, led by former Iowa wide receiver, Marvin McNutt as their head coach, there has been an explosion of passing with Burton under center for the 3-3 Chiefs.
In his first year starting as just a sophomore, Burton has lit it up through the air, ranking in the top five in 3A in passing touchdowns (17), passing yards (1,374), passing completions (88) and yards per completion (15.6). Connecting on 63.8% of his passes, McNutt has entrusted the keys to the offense to his 6-foot, 180-pound gunslinger.
Burton has cultivated quite a pairing with fellow sophomore, Kurt Joy Kurt Joy 6'2" | 165 lbs | WR/DB Keokuk | 2028 State IA as well, who has caught 30 passes for 537 yards and six scores this season. He ranks first in 3A in receiving yards.

Burton saw limited varsity action as a freshman last season. He used that time to prepare for stepping into the QB1 role in 2025. It looks like that work is paying off. Through the first three games of the season, Burton had completed 58.3 percent of his passes for 699 yards (16.6 YPC) and eight touchdowns against only one interception. There’s limited video footage available of of Burton in action. What we do see on those highlights is a well-rounded skill set and a prospect packed with potential. Burton displays easy arm strength and the ability to release the ball unconventionally on the move. His ball placement is sharp, giving his receivers chances to win 50-50 opportunities or run after the catch.
