A long-standing rivalry rekindled on Friday night as these two teams played each other for the first time since 2019. Camanche emerged through 3 quarters with a 35-28 lead as they outpaced Bellevue's offense in total yardage (430-397). However, with little traction on the ground, Camanche's offense became one-dimensional, giving the Comets the opportunity to claim the lead, rallying with 14 unanswered point in the 4th quarter and shutting down Camanche's explosive passive game to earn the win at home and earn a 2-0 start.

Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='1614201' first='Cal' last='Bonifas'] (SR) - Bonifas once again delivered with a stellar performance under pressure, finishing the night 28 of 42 for 303 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 1 INT, while adding a rushing TD as he engineered Bellevue's 4th quarter comeback.

A tightly contested battle between two overlooked teams in the conference, the matchup between the Big Reds and the Trojans proved to be a shootout, with the two teams combining for a whopping 823 yards of total offense. In the end, Fairfield had the ball last, but two costly penalties on their final drive pitted their comeback attempt, giving the Big Reds the edge in stifling the Trojans' heavy run-attack short of the first down, giving Centerville their first 2-0 start since 2022.

Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='1671366' first='Mack' last='Murdock'] (SO) - Murdock is making clear strides with his performance in year 2 as the Big Reds' starting QB. Murdock finished 14 of 17 for 259 yards and 2 touchdowns, adding 45 rushing yards on 11 carries and 2 more TDs on the ground. Murdock also recorded 9 tackles (6 solo), good for 2nd most on the defense.

An upset win at home, Alburnett is looking to very much become a force in Class 2A this season. While Mid-Prairie was able to churn over 300 yards of passing, the Pirates dominated on the ground, rushing for 312 yards on just 25 touches. The Pirates would get the leading score late and held off the Golden Hawks' last-ditch hail-mary efforts to secure a big win against a tough opponent, though their real test will be next week taking on the Regals at Iowa City Regina.

Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='1901425' first='Laken' last='Caves'] (JR) - Caves almost single-handedly carried the Pirates' offense on Friday as he was a threat to take it all the way every time he touched the ball. Caves ran for 314 yards on just 21 carries (15 YPC) and 5 TDs, while also co-leading the team with 32 receiving yards on just 2 catches. Caves added 6.5 tackles on defense and 66 punt return yards on 4 returns.

Flipping the script on these high-scoring games, the battle between Dike-New Hartford and Aplington-Parkersburg was a hard-fought defensive battle as the Falcons gave the Wolverines' offense a hard time. The only score of the game came on a 17 yard touchdown pass on 4th and goal. Despite the strong defensive efforts, the Falcons' failed to get much going offensively, further spurned by penalties, and the Wolverines were able to chip away until the clock ran out, winning in gritty fashion over a fierce rival.

Top Performer: Lane Girsch (SR) - Most responsible for the Wolverines' defensive stand was Girsch, who led the team with 6.5 tackles (4 solo) to go with 3 TFLs and 2 sacks as he helped limit the Falcons' offense to 101 total yards and 0 points.

Having lost their last 3 matchups against Spirit Lake, they were on pace toward extending that streak as they emerged with a 17-7 lead heading into the 4th quarter. However, despite throwing 2 interceptions, the Wolfpack's passing game clicked in the 4th quarter with two impressive touchdown throws to regain the lead early in the 4th. Van Meter would get the ball back with under a minute and a half to play, but the Wolfpack locked down their passing game, completing the comeback and earning their first win over Spirit Lake since 2010.
