Westmoore began a new era of Jaguar football in 2024 after they let go of Lorenzo Williams and hired David White to be their next head coach. And it's not uncommon but there were definitely some growing pains that they had to struggle through in 2024. Westmoore dropped the first three games of the season, including rivalry games to Moore and Southmoore and that's never happened before in program history. They would rally to start district play with back to back wins over Yukon and Norman North. They were 2-3 at the halfway point of the regular season but they would struggle in the second half. They lost five straight games to finish off the year at 2-8. But those two wins to kick off district play were good enough to clinch a spot in the playoffs. It should be noted that this is a new era of 6A football, where six out of the eight teams from each district make it to the playoffs. So Westmoore came into the playoffs as the six seed from their district. They faced a 9-1 Norman squad in the first round and lost 68-28 to finish the season at 2-9. But as the Jaguars turn the page to a new season, they're an intriguing team because on paper, they are incredibly young. We could see them go through more growing pains this fall.

2025 OUTLOOK

The Jaguars are going to open the 2025 football season as one of the more inexperienced and youngest teams in Class 6A-1. So that means two things as we take a look at the program as a whole. First, they are going to take some lumps as those inexperienced and young players learn the speed of the 6A-1 game. But on the other side of those lumps, this team will have a chance to come together and grow together and they could end up being a solid west side team in 6A-1. Now, the biggest question will be how quickly those young players can grow up and how long that inexperience will hamper the Jaguars. It could happen as soon as this season or Westmoore could be a team to look out for in 2026 and beyond. Offensively, the Jaguars bring back only two starters from last year's team. While the number is a scary one, they are not lacking talent. They have some huge but young offensive linemen and one of the top two-way players in the state's 2028 class, who should definitely be on more radars as we kick off the 2025 season. Defensively, the Jaguars also bring back two starters. And just like the offense, there will be plenty of young players that will need to grow up quickly. Westmoore has a shot to make the playoffs for the fourth straight year but they are going to have to earn it on the field.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Duke Berchtold

Sophomore quarterback Duke Berchtold is being handed the keys to the Westmoore offense this season. Last year, the Jaguars did not have consistency at the QB position as they played two different guys throughout the season. This year, the Westmoore coaches are hoping that Berchtold is the guy from start to finish this season. We don't know much about Berchtold going into this season because he didn't get any meaningful reps last fall. But we are already on the record that we like some of the skill players Westmoore brings back so he won't be lacking weapons.

Sydney Langston

Westmoore has some very intriguing underclassmen to keep an eye on this season but don't overlook this year's senior class. Leading the way on the offensive line will be senior Sydney Langston and measuring in at 6'5 and 300 pounds, he's going to be hard to miss on the field this fall. Langston leads a very young but promising offensive line into this season. The Jaguars will lean on his veteran presence and Langston will be attempting to pave the way for the Westmoore offense. This group certainly has potential and it starts with Langston up front.

Tom'Malik Benson

We already mentioned it a few times but we're on the record that sophomore Tom'Malik Benson needs to be on more radars as we get ready to start the 2025 football season. Benson is incredibly electric on both sides of the ball. We got a chance to watch him in person four times this offseason. Once at our January camp, twice at 7v7 tournaments and then once at team camp. Every time we watched Benson in action, he was one of the best football players on the field. It didn't matter if he was lined up at wide receiver or cornerback. He was off the charts good.

2025 SCHEDULE

Aug. 29th - Moore
- For the second straight year, Westmoore will square off with rival Moore to kick off the regular season. Westmoore has historically dominated their rivals from the east. But last year, they dropped a 35-3 decision and that was their second loss to the Lions in the last two decades.
Sept. 5th - AT Southmoore
- In week one, Westmoore makes the short trip to Southmoore to face off with the Sabercats. Last season, they lost 17-14 and that snapped a nine-game winning streak against Southmoore. And like we mentioned earlier in the preview, it was the first time that Westmoore lost to both rivals in the same year.
Sept. 19th - Mustang
- The Jaguars will wrap up non-district play with a week three meeting at home against Mustang. The Jaguars beat the Broncos in the 2023 playoffs but they lost to Mustang 54-30 last season. And this year's Mustang team is going to look very different with all the new additions they have to the roster.
Sept. 26th - Yukon
- District play kicks off in week four with a home game against Yukon. This has been a series that has been very friendly to the Jaguars. Whether they are district foes or not, Westmoore has had Yukon's number. They won 31-21 last season and they are 9-2 against the Millers in the last decade.
Oct. 3rd - AT Norman North
- Westmoore heads south to Norman to face Norman North in their brand new stadium in week five. Westmoore's 27-24 victory over the Timberwolves was a big reason why the Jaguars made it into the playoffs a year ago. That victory also snapped a four-game losing streak to the Timberwolves.
Oct. 10th - Owasso
- Prior to last season, the only time Westmoore and Owasso met on the gridiron was in the playoffs. Unfortunately for the Jaguars, they're still looking for their first win over the Rams. Last season, Owasso won 55-0. Westmoore will try to shock the state to kick off the second half of the regular season here.
Oct. 16th - AT Edmond Santa Fe
- On a Fall Break Thursday night, Westmoore goes on the road to face Edmond Santa Fe in week seven. It's the first of two straight meetings against Edmond Schools. Santa Fe beat the Jaguars 21-17 last season and Westmoore will be looking to snap a six-game losing streak to the Wolves.
Oct. 24th - Edmond Memorial
- In week eight, Westmoore hosts Edmond Memorial and the Jaguars are looking to turn things around after dropping the last two meetings to the Bulldogs. Prior to the last two meetings, Westmoore beat Edmond Memorial on six straight occasions. The Bulldogs will bring a strong defense to town.
Oct. 30th - AT Union
- On a Thursday night in week nine, Westmoore heads to Tulsa to square off with the Redhawks. Last season, Union rolled to a 56-7 victory. The Redhawks will look fairly different this season. Their longtime head coach stepped down following the 2024 season and they start a new era this fall.
Nov. 7th - AT Broken Arrow
- Westmoore heads back to the Tulsa area to square off with Broken Arrow in the regular season finale. Last season, they dropped a 49-7 decision to the Tigers but in 2023, they got their first ever win over Broken Arrow. Just like Union, Broken Arrow will be under new leadership this fall.

NOTABLE

What a difference a year makes. In 2023, the Jaguars made history when they beat Jenks for the second time in program history. They also beat Broken Arrow for the first time in school history. Those were two positive history-making moments for the Jaguars. But as we mentioned earlier in the preview, Westmoore had the negative history-making moments early on in the 2024 football season. When Southmoore officially opened in 2008, Westmoore started playing the Sabercats and other city rival Moore every year. And up until 2024, the Jaguars routinely beat at least one of those teams. Unfortunately for the Jaguars, last year was the first time in program history that they lost to both Moore and Southmoore in the same season. This year, they are looking to get back in the winner's column and win the city championship. But they also want to get back to making more program history, knocking off some of the top dogs in Class 6A-1.
